I would argue it does matter how you input the audio. The unbalanced 3.5mm is never as good as a proper XLR setup. The audio inputs on the Yolobox are not that good and are unbalanced 3.5mm. (inputs include pre-amp) - I like that you run the audio into the HDMI feed it's is the simplest way but it not a option for smaller camera.
It doesn't matter in this instance between XLR or mini jack- as long as you have audio going into the camera with levels set properly, the viewer will have good sound. The viewer won't care if the production team chose to use an XLR or mini jack. They won't care if the audio came in through the camera or over the mic and line inputs on YoloBox. They will care if you don't run sound into the system because then they won't hear anything. I completely agree and prefer XLR- probably for many of the same reasons you do. However, the video isn't about "I want XLR inputs on yolobox". It was about the audio signal path from Source to CDN using YoloBox. That's why I said what I said. I believe you may have missed that part. This was specific to YoloBox, and as such, I titled the video that way, and gave an intro stating as much. With regard to stereo mini jack- why do you think they are unbalanced? Many are, especially if just a TRS connection, but TRRS are often always balanced. Just check for voltage on the sleve. If it's there, bingo. Balanced. Maybe a Google search would shed some light on the subject. Just check out how many balanced stereo mini jacks you can get from Sweetwater. I use them all the time and have plenty of adapters on hand for when they are needed. They come in handy. Cheers.
