Well the second set from my radio amateur acquaintance in Sheffield had previously been illegally modified to do CEPT channels & as usual had given the radio the kiss of death instead. After restoring the 8V line with numerous capacitors, finding two cut PCB tracks, taking off the front panel to sort out the crushed & short circuit leads of the TX light & replacing the duff flexitrack individual wires, the radio was in a fit state to be realigned. Then it was duff speaker time & a friend came to the rescue selling me a speaker recovered from a low hours donor set.
Anyway, it works fine now, scratchy corner test to follow later today. Time on the bench; 10 days!
