Great show Steve and the time flew by! My reference to the pre-orders at Mofi was strictly at Mofi and not MD or other stores. Their website is an open book using page source and inventory_quantity. When I pre-ordered Hotel California on Aug 25th, the pre-order line of code increased by one. I have been watching the numbers since Aug 19th and at that point they had 7922 actual One-Steps in stock, and some titles have only sold 1 or 2 copies since then. I think they are in big trouble. I had been watching VH because I was trying to pre-order number 666 but missed out and then decided to try number 700, but missed that too. Right now they have 702 pre-orders when on the 19th it was 503. So they are getting a few orders. There is another number prominent and that is minus 150, so many One-Steps have less than 150 pre-orders. Cheers

Great episode these last couple of years vinyl reissues have been amazing those Meters Kevin Gray cut are stunning he has that magic touch . The Jazz reissue have been killer and that Whte Stripes is going to be huge. Kevin’s Hotel California cut is definitely one of my favorites Great panel keep up the excellent work Steve.

Great show! Thank you! When I evaluate a new record acquisition, I not only listen to it but I also simultaneously record it as a lossless wav file to hard drive. This gives me the opportunity to both aurally evaluate and then looking at the recording on a graph visibly evaluate it. When I see alot of hash between the tracks, and cleaning on my VPI RCM doesn't help, I feel that the best vinyl formula wasn't used. The ticks and pops can also be seen on the graph. Sure I have software to filter out the distractions, but I have received some records which I don't have to run through a processor and my track separator program can also sense the different tracks. When there is a lot of hash between tracks, it's hard for the program to separate the tracks. If there is a large pop or tick between tracks and sometimes in the tracks themselves, the program recognizes them as separate track.

There seemed to be some confusion regarding Joe Nino-Hernes at Sterling Sound. Sterling has two cutting rooms, one is Ryan Smith's, the other Joe's. Joe was hired by Sterling in 2018 when they made the move from New York to Nashville. Joe replaced the late Ray Janos, who also cut for Sterling, but did not move from NY to Nashville. Many of today's top selling new artists, like Taylor Swift and Lana Del Rey, have records which have by cut by Joe Nino-Hernes. Two of my favorite up and coming cutting/mastering engineers in the US are Joe and Levi Seitz at Blackbelt Mastering.

I can relate to Kevin's comment about his first listening experience with Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass' Whipped Cream and Other Delights. Recording engineer, Larry Levine is extraordinary in the way he can capture the studio sound on tape in a very realistic manner. I found it telling that none of the panel members commented on Larry Levine. I sometimes feel the experience level of the RU-vid participants is five miles wide and one inch deep.

Great panel and discussion, especially discussing Rhino Rocktober. I alway appreciate Mike’s knowledge, but I will never understand why he would have 20 albums by a band he hates. There are people that would probably appreciate those records and they should be played and enjoyed. Sell them or give them away IMHO.

Hi! I wasn’t aware that MM has become a promo rep of or is sponsored by Mob Fid. If so, and since many of us have been complaining that Mob Fid never had a face to the vinyl community, it may be a quite good move to recatch the lost souls. :-)
@MelindaMurphy
@MelindaMurphy Год назад
Hi! FYI, I'm not a paid rep for MoFi in any way. I have received promo records on occasion as I do from other companies and viewers as well. Most of my MoFi records have been purchased with my own money including the t-shirt I was wearing in this video. What I can do is let them know what their strengths and weaknesses are based on what I hear from the vinyl community. 😀 Thank you and I hope you have a relaxing weekend. 🤗♥️ Take care.

Hi there! Many thanks for your comments. Honestly, although you would make up a good front face, I am happy to hear that you have no engagement with that company. Spending money with that company is, of course, an individual matter of … As to the gravy train issue, I find free promotional copies absolutely necessary, for professional reviewers. Have a great weekend too.

kevin - why did your rare rti pressing of your anniversary dark side cut sound better than the optimal pressing of the same cut? same question for music matters vs. blue note classic? can rti sometimes sound better? why dont they press the blue note classics at rti?
@cohearent
@cohearent Год назад
It was Pallas, not Optimal on DTSOM. Cant say for sure, but wasn’t the first time that RTI beat ‘em. That’s a corporate decision so cant say for sure. On reason may be RTI’s limited capacity. Wouldnt make sense to have one project competing with the other for pressing time

The first Black Sabbath album on the 1st press US Warner Bros , olive label , cut by Artisan is no slouch . Well worth buying . Compares favourably with my UK Vertigo 1st press ( just a different sound , and track listing ) . What is it with you Americans and the Eagles ? Just don't get it , here in the UK .
@jeffwhitehead6268
@jeffwhitehead6268 Год назад
Steve, I love your desire to have Rhino repress Black Sabbath’s S/T album, but why?! A new press of the US copy tape that is 50+ years old will not sound anywhere near as good as a 1973 spaceship or WWA UK pressing. Those can be had for $50-$75 and use early metal parts. Sound amazing!
@stevewestman7774
@stevewestman7774 Год назад
Much appreciated. I have the UK OG. Yes it sounds incredible. But not everyone can afford that or wants to spend that kind of money on it. So that is why I want to see this happen and I am convinced we will see a Kevin Gray cut of Sabbath’s ST within the year.

I’d love to know what ever happened to Melinda’s video about her visit to MoFi… she made that big announcement video saying she’d been invited there and she and her husband were so excited to go, and that they’d make a video talking all about it upon their return. Then she went on the trip and never made the video, but said in a different video that she was just waiting for her husband to have the time to sit with her to make a video together about it, and since then they’ve both done a general Q&A video together but no MoFi vid. Yet she’s wearing a MoFi tee shirt and giving glowing reviews to the free promo records MoFi is sending her. Just kinda weird.

As I am aware of Kevin Gray’s talents and contributions in the VC world and that is not in question at all , I am however dismayed by his lack of visibility regarding his image in this video. Everyone in this podcast has good lighting and clear images and seem to be using equipment that presents themselves clearly and professionally. Kevin is shown in a hazy, foggy, dull light and seems to be using poor quality equipment and sitting in what looks like a work shed to broadcast himself. Why would you want to be seen like you don’t care. Why join the podcast without properly preparing yourself to look and to be seen as professional. This used to be important especially when you’re in a field where professionalism and details are your biggest asset. ??? Come on let’s invest in some decent video and audio equipment for the future.
