Somewhere in this crowd a young man (20 years old) is going apeshit, exited as fuck for finally being able to see one of his childhood heroes perform live! This was the only time I got to see Chris live, and I am so happy I was there. RIP Chris Cornell. One of the greatest voices to ever grace our ears. Rock will never be the same again.
That lead guitarist Tom Morello is one of the best of his generation. He can make a fender make sounds that it's not supposed to make. My hat is off to him . I have never heard a fender sound that way been listening to all kind of music 50 plus years . Thank you sir for your time and talent.
RIP Chris Cornell. This is hitting me hard. I discovered for myself that he had the best voice in rock'n'roll when I saw him sing with Audioslave at Lollapalooza, with APC and Jane's Addiction. Believe it or not (no lie) Audioslave stole the show that night, hands down. Ask absolutely anyone who was there. Not only were we rainstormed out just before they went on--but those who stayed were in for a real treat, because the most spectacular Utah lightning storm--we're talking vast, instantaneous forked-lightning webs striking across the entire horizon--showcased their set. Before that, the best light show I'd ever witnessed was for Pink Floyd, at the Momentary Lapse of Reason tour, in '86. But in '02 (or whenever it was I saw that Lollapalooza) it was God Himself who provided the light show, and hands down, it was the most spectacular I've ever witnessed. Also, Chris and Maynard sang a duet that night. But when Chris sang--I was dumbstruck to hear his voice, which sounded like it was aged to perfection in a whiskey barrel in a Cuban humidor. I doubt there will ever be another voice like his.
Excelente cover, la interpretación de Chris Cornell sencillamente espectacular, el solo de Tom Morello sensacional, RATM cool... Grande Audioslave 🔥🤩🔥🤩🔥🤩🔥
I saw them play this song in their set here in Phoenix, AZ. My brother and I went shit crazy when we heard it...... unfortunately half the people there didn't know what the hell was going on.... good'ol Cricket Pavillion!
YUSS! Respct for both musicians! White and Cornell! :D Don't you love it when you're favourite band does a cover of a song from your OTHER favourite band?
RIP Cornell! Forever the only one who can cover this song and fucken do it justice! Tom Morello was really icing on the cake - adding his police sirens and bad ass drop tuned guitar riff on top - Brad was a beast kicking the shit out of his drum set setting up the angry beat - but lets be honest here..... Tim was the real hero here, riffing that bass riff was bad assery! Carried the weight of the song on his shoulders!
Saw them front row in 2003/4 playing this at Lollapalooza. Most amazing live show I’ve ever witnessed. I’ve seen a LOT of shows. I remember he had a tape recorder and did a little thing recording the crowd. This song was so out of left field because it was popular at the time. Everyone lost it.
I like how Tom actually could have done what Jack White does with his guitar sounding like a bass. Both of them have the exact same pedal on their board. Listen to the solo for "Like a a Stone" and that pedal can go up AND down!
What's great about this is the reason that Jack White got a Whammy Pedal (the effect that makes the high pitched noises and low bass sounding guitar in the original version of the song) is because of Morello.
This cover sounds much better than the original. It's more powerful with an actual bass backing up the guitar. Tom's weird guitar noises give it its own flavor. Brad Wilk adds a few extra rolls to make up for Meg White's awful drum track. And of course, Chris's voice makes ANY song better.
the simple fact that a band like audioslave is covering White Stripes, demnostrates the influent the duo was....Meg drums combined with Jack guitars, as simply as that
I love how almost violent Chris's voice gets on the "Wichita" line. I've always felt that White Stripes would be better with a little emotion in their music.
Audioslave- Shoot, the legend, Chris Cornell covers your song, and you're so grateful you bow down to the Gods and know ya dont have to make another album again. The White Stripes were so unique that a crappy drummer required a total bad ass to cover with this kind of awesomeness. Chris touches a note with those gilded vocal chords and its put on a pedestal untouchable by even the artist who did the original. He is a Religion. He is so deeply missed. The people at this concert are the closest to God right here. Loud Love Baby!
