One has to give the writers credit who wrote with such feelings as if they put themselves in the story. Please check out "Roman Holiday with Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck who was terrific in this role. Gregory Peck always wanted a chance in a comedic role, but he claimed Cary Grant got them first. Luckily, he refused the part that Gregory Peck got in this movie, It worked well for everyone and the reason why Audrey Hepburn got an Oscar who was perfect Roman Holiday. love it.

You can watch this movie over and over again over many decades as I have because everything about it is flawless. Obviously Audrey Hepburn is perfection personified, dreamily gorgeous, a brilliant actress with intellect, astonishingly beautifully gowned and made up, her diction is exquisite and she just oozes class and dignity like no one else. But Humphrey Bogart and William Holden are also both exceptionally on point, both of them miles out of their usual genres, their characterisations and timing are superb. John Williams as Audrey’s father is one of my favourite actors, of course he’d produce a daughter like her, he’s so marvellous himself. And there are no small parts, the casting of every single actor who appears is impeccable. And there’s the absolutely cracking, inventive, multi-layered script, that’s why you never tire of it, it contains brilliantly hidden jokes and observations, and every character from the Larrabee parents to Miss McArdle has a backstory you get glimpses of. The work that went into the writing is breathtaking. All, of course, brilliantly put together and handled by a master director, one of the greatest film-makers of all time, with the most intense care yet the lightest touch. I almost cry each time I see Sabrina: it recedes further and further back in time as we sail on from that golden age in which these greats lived and worked. We will never again return to that time. Those days are gone forever.

So much to enjoy in this movie. The acting. The dialog full of sparkling wit. The fashions. The cars. The music. Audrey Hepburn is radiant. William Holden nails the part of the playboy son. And, Humphrey Bogart plays his part too in a subtle, layered, nuanced performance that's poignant as, in the romance department, in particular, he is quite aware that he is now and apparently always has been in the shadow of his charismatic brother. This is exemplified when he is trying to romance Sabrina and refers to himself as "Joe College with arthritis."

I was born 2 years after this movie was made, and I first saw it on TV in the 60s. I was too young to have any interest in girls, (yuck!) but I instantly fell in love with her. And I never noticed how goofy I acted whenever I saw her... Almost 70, and I'm still "in love" with her, as much as a person can love an image... but I've only recently noticed how petite she was. Such a tiny little body, but having the most beautiful and large eyes, and a heart to match... I can't think of anyone whose charm and class could ever compare. She was truly one of a kind. "Kissed by God.." as Mr. Wilder said. She brought so much joy and beauty to this rough and raggedy world. May she rest in peace.
