My favorite song uses a I 6/4 bVI+ vi bVI+ chord progression, which is just an inversion of the I-I+-I6-I+ progression mentioned in this video! I love this progression a lot but I rarely see it mentioned so it’s nice to see it get some recognition here!

Sounds good! Yeah augmented chords aren't used as much as they deserve.

I really like these videos, and as I read some comments, I came to one that spoke of a resolve at the end of the examples and I have to agree. Putting an end on it does help you remember the passage better. Thanks.😊

Thanks Jeff. Yes a few people have mentioned resolving examples. I will try and incorporate more of it in future videos.

I usually discover different chord types while playing on the guitar. I change notes around in a chord and decide if it sounds good by ear. Then I find out that what I have done with the chord is actually theoretically applied. It happens that it was the same with an augmented chord. I was going from E to Am, but I wanted to jazz it up. So I was playing E9 to Am7, then I said what if I slide this "9" half step up, and I liked the tension in the transition.

Yes I enjoy doing this with open chords on the guitar, moving a single finger to discover new sounds without thinking about the theory!

Maybe I'm not used to the V+ but to me sounds odd. I don't like it. However the I-I+-IV prog sounds really nice. Great Video!

Merci for this. I don't have a lot of music theory training, so I use your videos to help me understand better. When you do those chord loops, you often end on a chord that needs to be resolved. Since you are doing this for songwriters, would they know that this is just part of the path and they would have to find a way to end the song? But I heard somewhere that some modes never resolve and lead to long jams. Is this the idea with these examples?

Thanks Lawrence. This is a good point, I often use progressions in isolation without using the wider context of a song. In the "real world" you would likely use the progressions presented as a song section or part of a song section which would then resolve in a following section. Equally, not resolving a chord is a legitimate song writing technique. I am trying to incorporate how to use ideas in entire songs in future videos. It just takes a bit more work to make the longer videos!

@@WriteASong Merci. Like I said I am not a musician but this is fascinating. I wish I had subbed to your channel in the 1960s.

The Beach Boys "All Summer Long" has an augmented chord in it but its use is only to add a little interest by sharpening a fifth in a chord that's already being used...If that makes sense. Its first use is about 13-14 seconds in. I think they do the same trick in The Warmth of the Sun, which is the better song. As for more contemporary songs, I haven't a clue!

I think there might also be an augmented chord in Abba's Thank You For The Music...in the short passage just before the chorus.
