Every AR experience needs to build itself around an anchor. You pull out your phone, the camera will look for an anchor, and then once the anchor is identified, it knows where to build the AR experience.
This could be a wall, ground, image, 3D object and more. Understanding how these anchors work and what anchors you can use, will help you build your content around these anchors. You design for these anchors when you are building your AR content. The type of anchor you use could also depend on the authoring tool you are using, whether it be Vuforia in Unity, Adobe Aero, Apple's Reality Composer and more.
In this video, Jeff will walk you through the most common AR anchors and talk about which tools allow you to build for which anchor.

Hello! Is there a way to make a "non visible" anchor? Maybe a microchip or something like this so that I could stitch it in the fabric and when I use the AR app, it will recognise the place with a chip and display a needed 3d object, animation, information, etc. that will follow the movement of the chip? Or maybe you can suggest more creative approach? I want to add some fictional AR elements to the clothes that I make. Thanks.

Hmm, depending on the tool you can do world origin which will place it relative your the device. Or maybe a 3D object anchor with the chip. It really depends on the tool. Reality Composer/Aero need something while Unity/AR could do world origin.

Yep. Any progress here? I figured an rfid tag would let me virtualize my "AR costume" while grocery shopping or at the coffee shop.

Hello, great overview. I have the following problem. I want to place 3D objects in an AR experience in one session and then save their location to show them again in another session, for example when I close the app. It would be best if there was a way to store the information locally. Do you have any ideas or recommendations?

So most easy tools don't do this very well like Adobe Aero and Zappar. From what I know to do this kind of thing you need to get into actual ARKit or Android's SDK AR for this to work. I could be out of the loop here, you could check Zappar but that usually is a more advanced requirement.

I had an idea that I think will become really popular which is decorating up restaurants, office waiting rooms, etc (now that we have standalone headsets) They could start the app at the entrance. Would you use world origin technique for this and measure things out in all the rooms, then place them in exact locations in unity? Or would it be better to capture images of the areas you want them and use image anchors? Or another marker based technique? Or would you go with persistent cloud anchors? Oh, just got to the 3d object part - that's pretty interesting one. Any thoughts regarding performance if you have a whole bunch of anchors? Image anchor vs 3d object anchor vs persistent cloud anchor performance and reliability Are "base stations" outdated at this point?

Hmm, not 100% sure but would assume you would either need to do world origin or 3D objects. That would be my assumption at least but would have to do some more digging.

I want to be able to create an AR experience on my iPad with multiple image anchors in one scene. Adobe Aero doesn’t seem to allow this. Do you know of the best app that does?

You could try Reality Composer. You can create different scenes with different images. However I don't know if you have to first navigate to that scene before you can scan that image. The only other way I have been able to do this has been using something like Unity or you can try Zappar but those options you have to create on a desktop.

Hi. I am doing a public art project using AR- working with Adobe Aero . I want to anchor a 6 foot (AR) sculpture to a specific 4 foot pedestal in the real world. I do not want the users to place the artwork, I want it to simply appear in the correct location, centered. I can't do image anchor easily because there is no image on the pedestal and it is outdoors. Is there a way to do this with Aero? Thank you.

You should be able to a horizontal anchor which is a floor, is that what you are wanting? If not Apple Reality Composer has more anchor options.

The 3D object anchor is the one i’m tryna do but almost no software supports it and i cant get reality composer to open my usdz files
@LearningDojo
@LearningDojo 2 месяца назад
Hmm, not sure why that would be the case. Where did you create your usdz file?
