Welcome to today’s video on Part 2 of Parabola/quadratics. We are going to go over the 3 types of questions you must know to answer all the parabola/quadratics questions on the SAT.
Type 1: How to find a vertex
What you need to know - Two methods to find them (-b/2a & midpoint formula of roots). Because only -b/2a was covered in this video, the midpoint method is covered in the private lecture above
How to recognize - The question will talk about the maximum/minimum/lowest/highest/vertex
What to be aware of - Vertex ONLY exists for a parabola/quadratic function - meaning the highest exponent has to be [2]. If it’s a line or a cubic function, DO NOT FIND THE VERTEX. Vertex is only applicable in the parabola.
Type 2: Representing VERTEX as Constant/coefficients
What you need to know - Vertex form: y=a(x-h)^2 + K
How to recognize - Usually would have the words “represent MAXIMUM/MINIMUM as constant or coefficients” in them.
What to be aware of - Do not get confused with representing the “roots, zeros, solutions, x-intercepts” as constants & coefficients (which is type #3).
Type 3: Representing ROOTS/ZEROS/X-INTERCEPTS
What you need to know - Standard Form - Just a factored version of the original parabola equation
How to recognize - the question will have a similar phrase like “represent ROOTS/ZEROS/X-INTERCEPTS as constants or coefficients.”
What to be aware of: Do not get mixed up with representing VERTEX/MINIMUM/MAXIMUM as constant or coefficients (Type #2)

another way of solving 6:41 is by adding the two roots and dividing by two to find x-coord (-6+4)/2 and you'd find h a little faster. Great videos btw they're super helpful

@@sushantofficial5002 the questions is asking for the minimum value of f represented as a constant or coefficient and the constant is 24 and the coefficient is 2 meaning (-2,-24) but the correct minimum value is (-1,-25)

Alternate strategy: This is a calculator question. Graph all answer options to see which one overlies the equation in the question. This is not truly a math test. It is a “find the answer” test.

when the say " x-int appear as constant" directly factor the q, and when they say y-Int appear as constant, ur answer should be in the form of a(x-h)^2+k. check ex 7 (8:59) and ex 26 (6:4) Hope this helps!

Please in sat is root or solutions generally refer to real root and not imaginary root because sometimes they don't specify and they will also give equations that don't even have a b c in the quadratic equation y=ax^2+bx+c

If you just know that the x value of the vertex is always in the middle of the 2 x-intercepts these questions can be solved a lot faster.

in example 2 u said that the minimum value of the parabola would be its vertex... but how do you know its an upward parabola?

Because if you expand the equation out, you get a positive x^2, which means it's an upward parabola. Whether it's up or downward is determined by the sign of the x^2 (positive = upward = minimum vertex // negative = downward = maximum vertex)

​@@gulzahraali because the numbers that make the parenthesis equal to zero represent the roots. For instance, to make the middle parenthesis equal to zero, you would need 2. And when one of the parenthesis is equal to zero, the rest of the equation will equal to zero (because they are all multiplied together) So using the same logic, x = 2 & -4 are the roots as they make the parenthesis equal to zero.
