@@luxlapuerta wait, who are the characters here? The comments are confusing me tho... I know Betty and James, then who is August and Ines? Are they one person or no? I want a short film of these...
If you read the Cardigan lyrics and watched the long podcast of Taylor. She mentioned that James losing both Betty and August. So, Betty broke up and didnt took James back. Cardigan also has the different timeline unlike Betty & August. Betty & August were at their seventeen. While Cardigan when they grow up, a long years after graduated.
@@emailrp9559 Oh I’m confused because I thought on the documentary, Taylor herself confirmed that James and Betty ended up together. “In my head, I think Betty and James ended up together, right? In my head, she ends up with him, but he really put her through it.” This was the quote that made me think they ended up together because Taylor herself said so but idk if there’s any more follow up explanations that I missed.
I feel so bad for Augustine! It wasn't just a fling for her. She truly fell for James and he made her believe that the feeling was mutual. Maybe some part of him cared for her but in the end he was always gonna go back to Betty and leave Augustine behind with a broken heart.
yeah bad for her but she should've never get herself in between a couple knowingly. that is also entirely her fault as much as James the trash. very well deserving of the pain from the consequences of her actions.
Finally someone who depicts Augustine as the one who is a bit more shy and introverted in comparison to all the edits I see online of Betty being the one who is the shy un-popular one. I always felt like Augustine was this young girl who was so in love with James but went under the radar enough for him to not worry about being caught and Augustine simply thinking she had a shot, and your rendition captured that perfectly. Thank you for this, this was stunning and really hit where it needed to.
Maybe because other edits was based on what taylor have said that, Augustine is more like a cool girl who act like she didn't care but deep down she cares.
i didn't watch the long pod studio session very attentively so i always thought of augustine the same way as you, ig i'll re-watch the session but i know i'll always think of her this way because i've invested SO many nights crying to this song over the years, i relate so much to her, she's almost an extension of me atp
Some part of Augustine knew that James was not going to be with her, but she was so in love with him that truth became blurred to her. On the other side, Betty was the one who was getting cheated on and she deserved all the sympathy and justice but Augustine wasn't trying to steal James from her she just wanted him to stay, she knew that their relationship wasn't right but was in the hope that someday James would love her, but he realized that he loved betty.
@@pengu2935 i mean yeah that's what Taylor said but it was more like she takes him back but it doesn't work out between them so she breaks up with him again and she leaves him, they get separated after a little while...
ikr! it was an emotional roller coaster. like one minute, betty and james r in a healthy relationship, next minute turns out he was hanging out with augustine! the end made me sob. poor augustine, not even this song could describe what she would have been feeling!! this needs a short video, like all too well (10 minute version) had!
since in august taylor says “back when i was living for the hope of it all”, i always imagined that james was never emotionally attached to augustine the way augustine was to james. I imagined that they hung out a few times and blah blah but never dated, and august was hoping for their relationship to grow once school started but it never did. instead james pulled his head out his butt (lol) and ‘confessed his true feelings’ to betty. that’s just my interpretation. i loved this tho, so good !!!!! got me tearing up 🥲
For some reason I always thought Augustine was older and didn't go to school anymore, maybe because she says "will you call when YOU're back at school" and I imagined her kind of dettached from the Betty/James relationship. And I've always thought she didn't really have any real hope of being with him, because she says "you were never mine". But I do love the animation and interpretations can differ, which is why this is so magical
omg i finally found someone who thinks the same way that i did,i was so confused that everybody was saying that augustine was schoolmates with betty, james, and inez,i pictured her as someone who's older than betty and james but not much older, like 19 or 20? and she lives close to the beach or sum? and she's a lifeguard in there, idk really 😭
@@samlovestaylorswift yeah me too. I always thought she is going somewhere else. And i like to think like august know nothing about betty but she only feels and kinda knows there is someone else in james's mind.
Yo me imaginaba que vivía en otra parte, ella conoció apenas a James y no sabía nada de él, mucho menos que tenía novia. Por eso decía que cuando él vuelva a la escuela, él fue de vacaciones a algún lugar y después regresó a donde vive
This animation represents so good the feeling of the song, this song is so important to me, cause i throgh for something similar at the Augustine, someone who lie to me in the face and said that he loved me and want to spent his time with me, but always went to the Betty"s arms everytime, and its hard to leave that type of situationship but always the better is to leave that people, cause they are just playing with us. :(
YOU ARE SO TALENTED- I love every attention to detail, this was literally so well made, and that scene at Betty's party and her mind goes back all the way to last summer where his words repeat over and over in her mind.. Taylor may have wrote this amazing song but YOU are a master storyteller as well! ❤And your style is so cute, first frame Augustine shows up and I was like "SHE'S SO PRETTY 😭"-
This song perfectly represents why I'm always willing to be more forgiving the person who someone cheated with rather than the cheat because sometimes they just didn't know or was equally played with but the cheat knew what they were doing
Yeah, I think the cheater will always be at the most fault if they just cheated just because but the person who they cheat with sometimes knows, so I feel like they are still at fault. Not saying everyone since some cases are different.
Holy moly when I clicked on this I didn’t realize it would be this emotional… now I’m here bawling my eyes out 😭😭 this is literally amazing a work of art
The only bad guy here is james but augustine isn't innocent either, she knew what she was doing is wrong, she knew he was with Betty but still got her hopes that james will fall for her Nd fk james for cheating on Betty nd then has the audacity to blame it all on August he's the worst
it's 2AM and I'm sobbing my eyes out. cool cool your visual storytelling and art is CRAZY amazing. I just experienced heart wrenching pain for three and a half minutes but it's because you're so dang good. so thank you. also ow
Salt air, and the rust on your door I never needed anything more Whispers of "Are you sure?" "Never have I ever before" But I can see us lost in the memory August slipped away into a moment in time 'Cause it was never mine And I can see us twisted in bedsheets August sipped away like a bottle of wine 'Cause you were never mine Your back beneath the sun Wishin' I could write my name on it Will you call when you're back at school? I remember thinkin' I had you But I can see us lost in the memory August slipped away into a moment in time 'Cause it was never mine And I can see us twisted in bedsheets August sipped away like a bottle of wine 'Cause you were never mine Back when we were still changin' for the better Wanting was enough For me, it was enough To live for the hope of it all Cancel plans just in case you'd call And say, "Meet me behind the mall" So much for summer love and saying "us" 'Cause you weren't mine to lose You weren't mine to lose, no But I can see us lost in the memory August slipped away into a moment in time 'Cause it was never mine And I can see us twisted in bedsheets August sipped away like a bottle of wine 'Cause you were never mine 'Cause you were never mine, never mine But do you remember? Remember when I pulled up and said, "Get in the car" And then canceled my plans just in case you'd call? Back when I was livin' for the hope of it all, for the hope of it all "Meet me behind the mall" Remember when I pulled up and said, "Get in the car" And then canceled my plans just in case you'd call? Back when I was livin' for the hope of it all (for the hope of it all) For the hope of it all For the hope of it all (For the hope of it all) (For the hope of it all)
she's so genius , i listened to this song thinking it was a typical love song cuz of the "you werent mine to loose" thinking it meant that her love will be forever and it will never break and it hurt my whole soul when i actually understood what this song meant.
OH MY GOD!! dude this is one of the best taylor animatics ive ever, major props!!! and augustine looks so cute in this aorjfkaefv her being at betty’s party 😭
I feel bad for Augustine but then I remember she knew he was in a relationship but yet hooked up with him. I'm sorry that's a big no for me, no matter how much she loved him
@@reyy9220 Well, yeah, I see it like this too but depending on your interpretation of the song everyone could be a little bit guilty. Betty danced with another guy at the party while James was watching when she knew he did not like the crowds and situations like this. She did something that she knew would hurt him and in response he cheated. Do I think this is valid? No, James is awful and Augustine is part of the blame too because she knew that James was a taken man. Everyone has faults in the story, the “blame” part is according to how to interpret the song. Its not that Betty did NOTHING wrong, is that what she did was kind of shitty but not to the extent of what James did (screw that guy).
@@chriswoods1955 I thought Augustine WAS Inez, but some random people told me otherwise. But basically Inez=the person who went through James's Terrible stuff during the summer thinking he loved her when in reality he's a cheater.
As much as I love the song and this animatic, I just can't feel bad for August. It would be one thing if she didn't know that James was with Betty but this girl knew that and still went along with getting with James. And James had a girlfriend and decided to hurt someone else too. The only one I can truly for sorry for is Betty.
@@suspiciousstar7547 You can easily be manipulated by someone that you love because you don't want to see them for what they are. She more than likely did not want to see that James was manipulating her because she had feelings for him.
I never pictured Augustine like this but that's why I love it!! this interpretation made me love her and made me wish they were the ones who stayed together 😭
Ohh myyy goddd How beautifully and accurately you've presented each lyric and most importantly each and every emotion 😍🥺❤❤ I literally got goosebumps!!!
So sad Inez call this relationship "summer love" but James call it "summer thing" i think Inez really love James, but James didn't really love her Poor Inez 🥀🌾 This edit so freaking good make me sad at the same time but we are here really appreciate for this edit .you have talent in draw i hope you can develop your potential💌⚡💐
@Dayu Mawar ohhh! that makes sense. other people say the girl singing August is named august, which is why I thought you wrote the wrong thing, but it's only a theory!
Its sad, Augustine doesn't deserve it, so is Betty. James is an asshole. Taylor revealed that James and Betty ended up together. I don't know if Illicit Affair is part of Augustine-Betty-James Story but I always imagine that after Betty and James got married Augustine and James had an affair again, and Illicit Affair is again Augustine's POV. Please don't get mad at me for making a story in my head 😂.
@@aracaralina7308 BRO THAT COULD ACTUALLY WORK. Such as in the line "I don't dress for women, I don't dress for men" which can mean they are both being held for accountability. Maybe she divorced him and he remarried someone else. So, Betty came in with her proof and showed her everything he's done.
I just want to say that I hate people who cheat on their partners and the other person who agreed to be with that person knowing that they had a partner (mostly from my own experience) but I cannot deny that I feel great empathy towards Augustine, I just I wish her the best and I want to protect her... I just want Betty and Augustine to be happy. Also this was amazing, I love the way you did this animation and the little details…please keep doing this with other songs! 🤍🤍🫂✨
what if the other party didnt know anything about their relationship? because sometimes people made us fell while masking themselves, it felt too good to be true and that other party would left with nothing in the end
@@meiindarti9279 that’s a different perspective but Augustine knew about it, as I said I feel really bad for her but in real life I can’t stand cheating
It's a beautiful animation, but it doesn't nail down the story correctly. We know Betty and Augustine get hurt and because of that it's easy to try and portray James as a villain, but that's the thing, he's not. He's just a young boy who made poor decisions based on his insecurities and vulnerability. Mistakes happen. Also, James does call the relationship off completely long before he goes to Betty's party. The song "Betty" makes it clear that James reflected on what happened and acknowledges he did a very, very bad thing. His intentions to get her back and his love and apologies are authentic and good which is why Betty takes him back. Remember guys, they are literally in high school, and he didn't do it out of some hypersexual desire to cheat, he did it because Betty hurt him. I wouldn't say Augustine is too innocent here either, she knew he was with Betty, and she still stayed with him, putting herself in a position to hurt herself and hurt someone else, a woman even (I say this because it's interesting to see a lot of women defending her even though she knowingly tried to get with another girl's boyfriend, and I understand it's out of love, but it's still very wrong just like what James did was wrong too). People make mistakes, especially when we're young and in love and we don't see the consequences of it until it has been made. That's kinda the point of it all. Also, James telling August to "shut up" and blaming her is completely out of pocket and doesn't exactly fit the James that Taylor wrote, he never blamed anyone but himself.
Well, the story itself seems vague enough in the songs for anyone to create their own personal slightly different narrative so its kind of a matter of interpretation but I did not mean to portray James as the villain, this is just through Augustine’s perspective and she was hurt because of what he did which was definetly wrong. Augustine is not an angel either, I did not try to portray her this way, she sees James with Betty and she feels guilty and ashamed but keeps on persuading a relationship (maybe in hopes that he will chose her as she is insecure and lonely, but this is not an excuse). She blows off her friends to hang out with a taken guy and she is just in a messed up situation as a whole which makes you feel sorry for her but at the same time kind of look at her with pity because she got roped up into it by her own actions. I get that James is sad because Betty danced with someone else (so you could even say that Betty is a bit on the wrong too) so he cheated which is also not an excuse at all. I am not so sure his apology seems pretty genuine tho with the whole “I’m only seventeen” asking her to excuse him from being young and the “plus I saw you dance with him” as if Betty dancing with someone else makes it ok for him to cheat? Taylor even writes in cardigan the whole “I knew EVERYTHING when I was young” wich is definetly a dig at James because Betty is sayings he was a teen and mature unlike him, who was making mistakes and blaming them on being naive. I think this is the point, everyone is young in this story and they make mistakes. No one is a villain: they are stupid teens. Its a tragic love triangle that can be interepreted differently depending on the song you’re listening to.
Plus, I hope I didn’t portray the story as hypersexual lol. I had one vague intimate scene where I only showed their legs (referring to “twisting in bedsheets”) and one scene that regards to he line “are you sure” (which could be interpreted in suggestive ways) but this also shows that James cared about August too. He loved both girls simultaneously, that’s the pity of it all.
@@luxlapuerta Oh yeah August’s character was portrayed perfectly, no complaints with that. It’s kind of hard because you know James is more impulsive and can’t handle his emotions maturely in the way Betty does. Honestly the apology is something anyone can interpret in their own way, but the lyrics show James’ remorse and his excuse may sound dumb bc he is blaming it on his naivety with being young and all. But I mean…they are in high school. And everything fell apart based on everyone’s crappy choices, James just needed to figure it out and come to the conclusion that it was his fault. Idk, I really think it was mainly the part where he tells August to shut up that I was like woahhh bc he never blamed her 🤧 and also the part where they stay together, he breaks up with her when Betty finds out I believe and definitely before the party. I just have the need to defend him bc his mistakes came out of a place of hurt yk and he’s so young and the song Betty just seemed to me like he finally got his crap together and knows what he wants while learning from his mistakes.
@@luxlapuerta oh I’m sorry you didn’t portray it hyper sexually 😭😭😭 I’m just saying it like as an example that that’s something James didn’t do it out of something awful yk 😭😭. And you’re right he did care abt August too, it’s just that he probably didn’t know what he wanted until he actually lost it. A lesson a lot of adolescents come to learn and all.
I love this animation and song so much! It's a beautiful depiction of the love triangle involved in the songs August and Betty and I feel soooo heartbroken for August 😭😭😭😭
