Ravishing! Obviously she was injured during the Olympics but Aurelia Dobre in my opinion is the best gymnast ever. Technically and artistically she fused everything to create the most astonishing and captivating gymnastics routines. Yelena Shoushounova and Daniela Silivas would not have withstood the challenge of a healthy and confident Aurelia Dobre at the Seoul Olympics.
I don't agree that Elena and Daniela wouldn't have withstood the challenge but it would have been a contest for the ages. You can't take your eyes off Dobre. She was truly something. A shame that injuries cut her career so short. But Elena and Daniela were sensational at these games. Dobre could have beaten them, as she did at '87 Worlds, but I think it would have been very close.
@@ranaantonio Dobre was probably the only Romanian gymnast with superior musicality. She really knew how to move/interpret the music. I can't say the same for her 89 FX, that one was a hot mess, particularly the music and its edits.
I never did see in Shushunova what the judges did. They were surrounded by these wonderful Romanians and yet they gave it to Elena, who IIRC, seemed bored and downright unhappy the entire time.
And yet they still could not much one of the strongest Soviet teams ever. Maybe if Dobre wasn't injured it would be closer, but they were not going to win if the Soviets hit.
Um, Karen, Onodi used double twist as a friggin fourth pass as a connecting pass!! No American gymnast did a double twist in 92, they were forbidden. And Dawes was different, because she did it in combination as a fourth pass, ok. The Romanians had some amazing routines at Seoul. I didnt say the US was better than Romania, but we were better than East Germany, who cheated to get the bronze. Dobre was a shadow of her former self and was a two event gymnast. Personally,I wouldnt have sent her
Now Karen, you hardly ever hear me praising Jennifer Sey, but in terms of difficulty, even Jennifer Sey had a more difficulty than this routine. AND she couldnt even stay in bounds on the second pass. Yes it was enjoyable, but 2 double twists are inexcusable at an Olympics..I mean people in 1980 did more than that! And yes the American routines at Seoul were excellent. This routine got an overly generous 9.7 when Chelle Stack blew her away in originality and tumbling and got a 9.825. Unfair!
