on May 10, 2024 electrical magnetic storm gave us a spectacular
Aurora borealis/northern lights Display. Early on we didn't know if we would see it or not and in fact we're skeptical. I in retrospect I wish I had set up to do time lapse with three second exposures.
At first we couldn't tell if we were seeing it or not except we noticed that the iPhone camera was able to see it better than we could. At first it just looked like some streaks of mist to the naked eye. But as the evening grew later we were surprised to see how much light was landing on our faces. The yard felt like it was bathed in moonlight but almost more like that strange quality of light you get during a eclipse.
I put this together with a combination of photos from two different iPhones and my Lumix G9. Some of the better images I achieved with an F stop of eight and about a three seconds long exposure using the cameras rather cool feature called live view composite.
After it completes an exposure it repeats the process and then blends the results. Wonderful tool for doing lake trails in the lakes.
It gave me the excuse to go back and finish this piece of music that I had been monkeying around with. Exploring various synth sounds.
