Hi Andy, Great Video! Thanks for the shout out! That is a very strange fault on the 2kw inverter. The RS485 connections are just the + and - but on the interface I got from amazon it had the GND wire too (which is marked RTN on the Aurora) so 3 wires. I just used some wires that are commonly used on Arduino microcontrollers (Dupont connectors, and just poked them onto the pins). The interface I used was from Amazon "Waveshare Industrial USB to RS485 Converter" around £17. Hope that help! Oh and the service password for your 3KW inverter SN:991350 should be 880460 :)
FYI Andy I have a 6kw Aurora with a GFI fault and last time I tried to start it I saw a battery low warning also. I know a dealer who might give out an official password!
"Official Password?" - the algorithm is the same, if the dealer generates it, or you use aurora's CVI software (unlocked with their engineer password of "91951") or use the keygen I wrote. The numbers will be identical. You can even work it out with pen and paper! (see comment below).
@@BuyitFixit Mick, I swapped the thermisters to no result. If you would like this unit I can parcel it up if you send Evri (Hermes) to collect it. The local Evri rep knows where we are and where I leave things. Jim thinks the 2 symptoms are related, cheers
@@BuyitFixit Mick I will sort that and confirm the weight, should be in the 10 to 15Kg range (might be a few days as we have visitors). Victron inverters are reliable, we now have 5KW multi, and it is set to look after the batteries but only run at a max of half capacity, that way all will have a long life. Just been looking at an Afore 2.7KW with a dead short, turns out to be 2 of the 4 fets. They are K30H603, would K50H603 be a replacement as I have several? Cheers

Ps I can communicate via rs485 with my other inverter. It needs a fairly expensive USB to re486 adapter. Others may work but I was told just get a proper one. Its a three wire connection.
I have a cheap usb to RS485 from Aliexpress and it works fine, only cost a few dollars. It has just 2 screw terminal A and B just connect A to A and B to B, if you have multiple devices connected it needs to have the 120 ohm resistor in just the 2 devices at each end. If you are just connecting your PC to one inverter just run a twisted pair of wires A-A and B-B and it will work with the ArouraCVI software that you can download via the link from buyitfixit's video.
Well Andy that was perfectly timed. Yesterday my Aurioa Uno stopped working and showed a RISO high alarm. I have two seperate banks of panels 10 and 6. I found by disconnecting each bank that the 10 panel bank is suspect. Problem is they are on the house roof. So scaffolding required. So disconnected them and now running on other bank of 6 panels. Suspect rain has got in somehow. So very interested to see your progress in disconecting the ground. Thanks for you info. As you know we have been abandoned by Arrouria and ABB.
this error refers to the AC side of the board, most likely there is a faulty capacitor. Check them externally and if necessary measure them with a multimeter.
Andy I have just been fixing up a few of these inverters to use with my off grid system. When you put the serial number in to get the password just click ok, not the generate password button. Doesn't make sense I know but just click the OK in the top section and the password will appear, Click generate password and it says wrong password. Also the ground fault could be a failed RED MOV just above the DC inputs on the PCB. It will give a RISO error if not installed, try taking a couple out of a working inverter and put them in the one that is giving you grief.
Hi Andy back again with an update. After proving that my 10 panel section is causing a high ground fault on my inverter and as mentioned the panels are on my roof. I decided to have a go with an old trick we used in Strowger Telephone Exchanges when the Boss was'nt looking. We often got resistive ground faults due to oil getting dirty and tracking to earth. So we made a 10 ohm wire wound resister and a probe connected to the 50 volt supply then probed the suspect areas on the earthy side. Quite a current would breifly flow and hay presto blasted the contact away. So I decide just to short out my panels when the sun was shining. Result now no RISO alarm and all panels producing. Saved the Scaffolding for now.
