G'Day viewers!
I head back into the Australian bush to the gunyah camp for a bit of bushcraft only to find the gunyah hasn't quite stood the test of time. I use my new Australian army hootchie tarp, a wool blanket, cook up an awesome feed and find some bush tucker.
Hope you all enjoy it.

G'Day Scotty. Mate it is very clear that you spend a great deal of effort editing your videos and I must say its effort that is greatly appreciated. At the moment its the end of July 2020 and this is possibly the fourth or fifth time I've gone back through your video's as they do so make me reminisce my younger days of nearly 60 years ago in similar bush surroundings as yours and enjoying the wonders of the Aussie bush. I'm a bit jealous of the quality of the gear you have as opposed to my old WWII army haversack and a Japara cotton bivouac (as opposed to the new term tarp) made by my Mum, that was coated in some homemade waterproffing concoction that she mixed, but it worked. I also see your billy isn't made from a 2lb Sunshine powdered milk tin, such is progress Ha. Keep up the good work mate you've broken through the bounds of amateurism to produce some very professional video products. You never know when I get back to Oz we may cross tracks as I do truly intend to enjoy something that is flowing in my blood and sadly missed even though I'm pushing 70. Cheers mate.

For anyone not used to Australian snakes/ spiders/ scorpions/ assorted nasties....Scotty is spot on to react with healthy respect for the dangers, particularly being alone and far from help. Safety first :)

I stumbled upon your channel a few months ago and have been enjoying learning about the Australian landscape. I'm from the northeast USA and I never knew places like this existed. Over here, images of Australia mostly consist of Ayers Rock, the Gold Coast and the Sydney Harbor Bridge.

The problem with the places mentioned they are commercialised for tourists. If ever you get a chance to come over here, look for a small local but reputable tour operator. Generally, they will take you to where few tread.

Hey mate, Aussie Army bloke here, yeah the eyelets pop out all the time, so we dont rely on Lean-To's anymore. We just rock the Triangle and just raise or lower it depending on preference. Added bonus is when raised with the flanks out, more air flow, and cooler for warm times, and when you lower it down, it helps retain a bit of warmth, like u mentioned probably would have benefited you around the 4am mark. Give it a hit :)

Is that two hootchies as the roof Scotty? Another inspirational vid... I now take my S.O.T. kayak down the Nepean River on at least a weekly basis, thanks to you Scotty. There is something magical about seeing wildlife from the river. Soon I will be comfortable in looking for a place to do an overnighter. Having a disability along with a mental illness makes it just that little harder. Thanks once again for the vid's Scotty.

The spots most YTers camp are a well scouted spot where they have plenty of firewood, their main concern. It's good to see people who just go where they know, and use what they have at hand. Your lucky to have a place with such variety in one small area. I like the water in front, and the rocks behind are a quick change of elevation if needed.

Sorry your leanto fell down...it was a nice one. What a great spot though, with the water so close by and friendly neighbor Roos! I saw you checking your boots in the a.m. Good plan! Where I used to live in SoCal, it was scorpions, rattle snakes and/or tarantulas you could find dozing in your cozy boot, but I’m sure you have equally nasty things there that would enjoy creeping in at night.

To prevent your eyelets pulling out try adding a few tarp clamps to your kit. Light weight and very useful. Plus they can be placed anywhere on the tarp.

Thanks for this cool video! Very enjoyable and inspiring to watch! I love that you show a lot of the landscape/environment and even a caught a little kangaroo (amazing)! Actually, what I saw in this video is exactly the way I imagine the Australian outback, and I think you did a great job of showcasing it. I would really love to someday be able to go hiking down under. Here in Sweden we have a lot of beautiful forestry with a wealth of resources, but there's just something romantic about the vast and untamed Australian outback, and just the diversity of the wildlife and the landscape. I kinda blame Crocodile Dundee for that... and Disney (lol). I like your fireplace setup with the stones, and that kangaroo wrap looked really tasty! I never thought about whether people eat kangaroo meat, but why the heck not? Like you said, they're not farmed so I'm all for it. One thing I noticed when you were using your bush knife is that it seemed pretty dull. Sure it's not supposed to be a Japanese cooking knife, but I still think it could have used a good bit of sharpening to make all the cutting tasks smoother and also safer. That may or may not be something you may want to look after, maybe. Just a thought... I also like how you deliberately showed how you did the various knots when setting up camp. That's very helpful for anyone who doesn't know a whole lot about knots (like me). Thanks again, and good luck on your future walkabouts!

Mate, You are getting more and more the Bush Master. Your skills are improving. There is nothing wrong with blending new with the old, Using modern tech to make bivwacking more comfortable (And safe) is what is great about being alive right now. One good tip I learnt is to always take a few fresh water shrimp nets. They weigh bugger all and can get you a few handfuls of tasty protein from water like that. Surf and turf on that steak !

Hey Scotty!, Really enjoying your channel. I've been hooked on bushcraft vids for awhile now and would like to get into a bit more myself. You're also the first Aussie channel I've found that I enjoy. I'd like to hear a bit more info about the areas you visit in your videos and why you chose those spots in particular, what you personally like about them and maybe a bit more about the hike. I particularly enjoy your South coast trips since I'm originally from there but rarely get to visit these days, wouldn't mind getting to know more areas there to camp. Also really enjoy the Botanical and bush tucker info in your vids. Would be cool to see more of this. Keep up the good work mate 👍.
