Angry Anderson looks rough as guts but he’s actually one of the nicest blokes you could ever meet. He does a lot of charity work for children and young people. Hard to believe he’s now 75 years old.
@@yorumsfield556 gotta be some copyright thing goin on. Can't believe bad boy for love, rock n roll outlaw, and then some other less well known songs reactrd to but no WCBB at all?? Doesn't make sense at all.
the only tune that gave ac/dc a run for its money in that era i recon *although years later i can appreciate the rest of rose tattoos body of work much better as an adult
The film clip when they are in wrecker's yard. It would be one of their mate's businesses. Prolly got out the Sanyo camcorder to record the clip. So bogan. So Western Sydney. I've also searched and can't believe it hasn't been reacted to.
Is it just me - or do our aussie musicians, singers, tend to share and work alot better - even when two huge talents come together - and create at such a great height equal to their own performances
Although I'm not a fan of this type of music I respect Angry Anderson (Gary Stephen) for the way he has turned his life around. He came from an abusive family background, had bad role models, acted up and got himself into trouble. While playing in bands he met his wife ( later getting divorced) and had children who became the centre of his world and were the catalyst for his positive change. Angry became an advocate for youth, social and charity issues. He was awarded the Member of the Order of Australia for this. He also had parts in films, was in the media and wrote a book about his life. Angry also became spiritually orientated in his approach to life. I'm so glad that you had the bonus track with the legendary Billy Thorpe and his fabulous guitar playing. Yes, he was a fantastic loud rocker but you should hear him with his crystal clear voice singing ballads. He does the most beautiful singing of the classic, "Somewhere Over The Rainbow', and 'I Told The Brook'. Also a psychedelic, long-play, 'Children of the Sun.'
You've made every bogan in Oz very happy , me included. Edit his name is Gary Anderson. In an earlier band he wore a purple or pink jumpsuit and wore his hair like Dave Hill from Slade . Fact is sometimes stranger than fiction.
Feral working class uncouth unsophisticated yobbos with mullet hairdos, low income, unemployed like a redneck but usually dwelling in the outer suburbs or cities. (probably how the English view all Australians LOL). Watch Housos v Authority for an exaggerated stereotype. @@TheThamesmen
Pete Wells(RIP) was a great slide player. He had his own band & a tattoo shop near me in the 1990 - 2000s . He played the Empire Hotel in Annandale on Friday nights.
So true. But sometimes they are better performances when older and better resourced. Would you rather see John Farnham sing "Help" with the Melbourne Symphonic Orchestra, or see him do "Sadie, The Cleaning Lady"?
In 2006/7 when Lobby Loyde was dying of lung cancer, there was a farewell tour and Billy Thorpe joined him, having a long history together. I went to their gig at the Pier Hotel in Frankston, Victoria and it was a powerful performance. Ironically, Billy passed before him. Lobby played with the Aztecs for a bit, and also played bass in Rose Tattoo for a while
The fantastic Angry Anderson, or as he's known now, as he's aged disgracefully is "Slightly Annoyed" Anderson🤣. Hit No 3 on the UK charts in 88 with the ballad "Suddenly". He's also an actor and has appeared in many Aussie films and tv shows. He also starred in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. Funnily enough, he's run for election in politics for The National Party which is as about as conservative as you can get in mainstream politics in Australia. They make the US Republicans look like liberal, skinny jean-wearing, latte-drinking hipsters in comparison😁. Funny how he joined the Nationals as he's a serious leftie. A fantastic guy..............love him to death.
Saw the tatts at caringbah hotel in january 2023 only paul the drummer and angry from original line up great show last saw them bombay rock 1982. My hearing came back next day LOL
Rose Tattoo was probably the first Australian blues/rock band I ever heard. Up until then, I had only listened to American blues. The "Tatts" might not have been as note perfect as some of the famous American blues artists of their time, nor were their songs steeped in the painful history that often frames American blues. However, Rose Tattoo had an edge to them I hadn't heard before, which was in itself formed from an Australian version of the school of hard knocks. If you only heard The Tatts on an album, you would say that they were pretty good, but it was in their live performances that they became a legendary act. Rose Tattoo really personified the Aussie Pub Rock era. They may not be the best band to come out of Australia, but late in a festival, when the crowd was well-lubricated, Rose Tattoo could whip them into a heaving, frothing mob. And that is perfection.
He’s played with Dragon, Keith Urban, SheDaisy, Avion, Rodney Crowell, Rose Tattoo, to mention a few and as you say, Shania Twain. He doesn’t play with her anymore. He’s based in Australia these days. I went to the same fellowship group as he did. Fun fact- he was actually born with 12 fingers and had two removed. He was already an outstanding guitarist by his late teens.
I second more Billy the Sunbury footage is great and there’s black and white footage of a gig at Melbourne town hall that opens with the house pipe organ playing. Amazing.
One of the nicest men I have meet, so down too earth so loving and so pleasant to talk too. I had the honour of bumping into him in Sydney and he spent about 15 minutes just chatting with me, so TY Angry for all the music and Thank You for being the wonderful man you are and all the work you do for others. Keep Safe Keep Strong 🦘🦘🦘🦘🎶🎶🎶🎶
An absolute ripper Aussie song is Axiom with the incredible Brian Cadd singing A Little Ray of Sunshine. Also Gingerman by Brian Cadd and Sweet Sweet Love by the wonderful Russel Morris.
Angry was also an actor in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome He was the guy who had a head on a stick with it towering over him. watch that last concert video Live at the Boggo jail
Rose Tattoo were banned from the legendary " LIVE " music show ' COUNTDOWN " when Angry, physically exchanged his chewing gum orally with a Band member.
suburban and inner city (lout) gang culture was massive back then when all the major citys were still pretty much blue collar industrial manufacturing hubs with a proper pub culture
Angry has also done some acting most famously as Ironbar in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. But he is also famous for being a big contributor of time to charity work helping young people
I will have to put The Screaming Jets into the loudest band calculations as well. I can't remember the exact venue (it was either the Jam Club in Morwell, or the Astrodome in Traralgon (both close to one another in Victoria, they were both smallish venues). I honestly don't think I have heard a louder band. My ears are still ringing from The Jets performance that night.
@@MickH60 Hey Mick, no, I never had the privilege of seeing Motorhead live, that would have been awesome though. Music misses Lemmy so much. We need more songwriters who can kick your guts out, while moving your heart, sometimes at the same time. Thanks for your message, I am so inspired now, I am off to watch some Motorhead.
Angry may seem like the bad boy but he is the biggest softy ever. His gives so much of himself to charity, especially after losing his son to mindless violence.
Ok you got me, I've subscribed...😃! Rapid fire thoughts on the 'Tatts. 1...this is a later iteration, to be revered nonetheless. 2...The first 'Tatts gig that I went to at Sydney's Bexley North pub, I didn't realise that the first bloke that I set eyes on, standing at the bar with back to the door, was Angry. I knew the music, but that night I acquired the knowledge that Angry was only about 5ft 2in tall. 3...The guy playing the slide licks in this clip is Dai Pritchard, a latter day stalwart of balls out guitar in Oz. I know that he was giving guitar instruction locally at the time of the following tale. My son and his mate were getting lessons at this time, from Dai I suspect, loving their lessons and improving by leaps and bounds, until the other guy's mom went to pick them up one day, and promptly yanked her son from the lessons because she "didn't like the look of the place" where the teacher lived. (It probably smelled like rock and roll😄) Upon losing this powerful influence on his guitar skills, my young fella went on to be a handy bass player. 4...As for myself, my brief sally into pub rock here in Oz in the late '70s never got any better than when setting up for a Saturday night in Sydney's west, backstage we found a discarded invoice from the 'Tatts gig at that venue the night previous. Already sporting a heavy rep. and about the time they recorded their first album, they had played for a pissy 100 bucks more than us. We were worth our money...they definitely got Rose Tattoo dirt cheap. ✌
Yeah, the bonus track was much more representative of the Tatts at their heights. The big guy with the smoke in his gob was Pete Wells, and man could he play. (RIP) Most of the original band members are dead, if ever a band lived up to the "play hard, die young" moniker it was the Tatts. Guns & Roses covered a few Rose Tattoo songs, & Slash said once that they were the band he wished he'd been in. Apologies for having a crack at you about the first video, but it really wasn't representative of the Rose Tattoo I remember. I was lucky enough to see them live maybe 5 or 6 times, and I'm pretty confident they were a major factor in my ongoing issue with tinnitus to this day. Wild, wild band, these boys didn't just look tough, they were blokes you did not want to ever mess with.
Seen them as a support act to ZZ Top at Sufers Paradise, with the Angles, great live act, he lives up to his nickname on stage, Angry! He gave it to the crowd on many occasions that night. To his credit he was always creating support for charity.
Great song, great Band, back in the day Angry was mad, used to leap off the stage and punch on with the crowd. Live at Boggo Road Jail is well worth seeing.Crazy Rock band playing to the inmates in High Security Prison, they dont do that anymore.
Haha, no they don't play in prisons anymore. Fun fact, Boggo Road is now a kind of museum where you can take tours to see how hard prison was back then, and there will be a train station at Boggo Road in the new Cross-River Rail project under construction right now.
for your next Aussie week or any time really please please do Billy Thorpe's Children of the Sun if you do turn up your headies up to 11 it is a complete eargasm and it WILL BLOW YOUR MIND
back in those days having full sleeves (or any visible tattoos) pretty much meant you were an outcast etc, not like today when rich kids use mom and dads credit cards to travel the world and get blasted by all the latest trendy names in tattooing lol
Angry does a lot of charity work these days but I think he was pretty wild back in the day 😄 Aussie Chris is doing a great job, he needs to get you onto Skyhooks, a great band from the 70's & ahead of their time (IMO).
@@TheThamesmen Was such an amazing time in my life 🌟⭐🌟 All three band's were brilliant.. ZZ Top was so very in sync and the visuals were spectacular 🚘🌈
@@TheThamesmen The reason is because it's a ballad, I thought it was from Peter Cetera or Chicago or someone like that, I was shocked when I found out it was Angry Anderson. Some quick notes on the song: it was released in 1987 and was written by Angry Anderson, Andy Chicon and Kevin Beamish. The song was hand picked by Kylie Minogue for Scott and Charlene's Wedding in the Aussie soap Neighbors and released simultaneously with the airing of that episode. It reached number 2 on the ARIA singles charts and number 3 on the UK singles charts. In 2012 Angry Anderson said it was the best song he's ever written.
Rose Tattoo is a favourite band of mine. I have seen them live 15 times this is my favourite track of theirs. Check out Angry Anderson solo hit Suddenly a totally different genre
I'll tell you two the God's honest truth: these Aussie bands and musos, and singers made great recorded music for sale... but playing live they were all in their element and produced their best.
I was at the Adelaide gig when they supported ZZtop in the 80s still one of the best gigs I've been to. Excellent video and choice once again 👏. Oh and the Angels " take a long line" for Aussie week 5 so remind Chris lol his choices so far are brilliant 👏.
They were brilliant 1 of my top 10. Enjoy getting lost down the rabbit hole of Aussie music you guys do excellent videos so supporting you is a no brainer.
Angry Anderson is one of the nicest guy you will find. My son has special needs and Angry made my son's day by having a chat. My son even has a photo of them together.
Bad Boy for Love was written by Ian Rilen who, left Rose Tattoo before they released their debut album. Ian left the Tatt's because he thought they were too soft and went onto form the seminal Aussie band X with Steve Lucas.🤘
That version of Going Down is arguably the best rock video/performance I have ever seen. Watched it many times. One of the great Rose Tattoo lineups plus Billy Thorpe. All three guitarists taken by health issues far too young - Pete Wells and Mick cocks from cancer and Billy Thorpe heart issues. Saw the Tatts last month in a pub here. Angry 76 years old and an excellent lineup incl;uding the drummer from these clips. Still powerhouses playing with tremendous intensity. The Bad Boy clip is actually one of their worst with a short lived lineup. Check out anything from Wakken Festival in Germany for some real Rose Tattoo or Tramp from the D'Arg Hotel last year.
I didn’t recognize their name, but I sure remembered this song! Ah, sweet nostalgia... I listened to this in my 1965 Barracuda, with an especially nice girl beside me! 🏎
A brilliant couple of Tatts songs. I have seen them 30 or more times over the decades and while at times it was so ugly, loud and distorted that I almost threw up it was never less than brilliant. There was one point in Going Down where the three guitarists were playing together that could make a tough Aussie boy cry. One because it was Aussie hard rock personified but secondly within a decade the three of them had all died. Thorpie, Wellsy and Cocksie had passed away from living life like the songs they played. It was a dangerous occupation being a Tatts muso. Add Ian Rilen a hard rock bass players bass player who wrote Bad Boy for love and Dallas Royal the hardest drummer ever to play to the departed list. The venue for the second song was Boggo Road Gaol an appropriate place for these bad boys. Saw the Tatts play a few times over the last few years including 2 weeks ago and I'll tell you the people commenting that these weren't the Tatts at their best must have not seen them in those days. No one could match them for intensity and grit which is exactly where Aussie pub rock was born. Great week of songs as always.
You can't or shouldn't judge them from this performance, it's a bit bloody awful. I recommend you get the original recording from the late 70's. Sadly, most of the Band members have passed away. I luckily saw them LIVE at JJ 1540 gigs in the 70's. JJ 1540 AM was the alternative RADIO Station in Sydney. Many thanks to the' Whitlam - Labor Government' for setting up the Station and supporting Aussie music.
I miss seeing bands like the tatts, they also did a really good cover of Stevie Wright's song black eyed bruiser. But hey, has everyone forgotten one our best pub bands, who never disappointed us with their high energy performances, the radiators? Some of their best songs were I'm coming home (their first hit, but only in Oz), summer holiday, Nancy can't dance, radiation - all from their first album. But I just love one of their later songs life's a gamble.
The 'Rosie Tatts', as we often call them, are straight-out hard driving rock. Their lead singer Angry Anderson has aired some controversial social views over the years, but seems to be mellowing in his dotage. As for Billy Thorpe ... RIP legend!
I saw them quite a bit in early 80’s. One stinking hot night at a gig in Brunswick (Melbourne), me with friends up the front, Angry dumped a bucket on water over us. Sweaty, wet, dancing, a great night 🪣
You should watch early footage of the original rose Tattoo, the singer is the only original member here.... If you get the chance watch Rose Tattoo the butcher and fast Eddie in 1982, brilliant..... PS, the wife and I have see that "Tatts" probably over 20 times, half of those times with another great Aussie band the Angels...
They once reformed at Guns N Roses request so as to support them, i have seen them support gunners, black sabbath, at festivals & on their own they are an awsome live band
