Great video Kim! We made the move to Adelaide from Glasgow in October and settling is tough. My hubby is away at work and the routine is difficult. I have an 18 month old and another on the way in December. Its an adjustment but seeing what life has to offer the kids is amazing. We will find our groove, i see it as a fresh start and i definitely intend on ceasing all the opportunities outside mum mode 😂

Ahhh hello! Congratulations on your move & massive congratulations on your new bubba on the way ❤ not long now! I hope you are keeping OK. It definitely takes time. I hope you have support around for when your little one arrives? X

Hello:) I moved from Australia to the US. I lived there nearly 20 years with my American husband before bringing him back to Australia to live. From my experience, the first two years are the hardest. Everything is different, sounds can be overwhelming(listening to American radio, tv, conversations around me), not being able to find anything in the supermarket etc. Heck, it would take me ten minutes to cross the road because the cars were coming at me from all different angles. But it does get better, especially once you start becoming part of the community and making friends. I do feel for you, especially as newbies, but I think in time you will be able to relax and feel as if Australia is home. Good luck with it all, and with the new Aussie baby!

I just watched this and really found a great deal of similarities with our move back in 2008. We moved over from Oldham with 4 children and listening to your stories it brought it all back, especially the child care situation. Keep up the good work because one thing I’ve found here is that you get far better rewards for your efforts. Also as the kids get older they will start getting involved in the local sports and this is where you start getting a bit of your social life back. I am now a grandfather to a beautiful little girl who is one in a few weeks. We also live on the Central Coast and have been since we made the move. We live at Avoca Beach, keep up the good work and I will be keen to see your videos as they progress. Michael Deakin !

Sydney is the 2nd largest area in the world as in spread out area. West goes up to the blue mountains, south west down to Cambletown. South goes down to The National Park. North coast goes all the way up the Hawksbury and North west out to Richmond. It would take you about 2+ hrs to drive across Sydney suburbs.

The best part of Australia is the weather and the Aussies are good too. The money is good, but everything is expensive. Overall it's a good move.

G'day Kim, You An the kids. I really hope things get better and better for the family every day. Yeah, would like to see more of You An. You never did check Newcastle did ya. Newcastle and surrounding areas such as the Hunter Valley and Port Stevens would suit your family lifestyle to the tee. ❤❤❤ and 😊

It is tough when you start out. For men 11 hours a day starting out is normal. Sometimes in peak times, I'm not in construction, I can work 15 hours. But it balances out in the future, Ewen will get to 8 hours relatively quickly and weekend work will vary to get more time for you all in the family.

We're aiming for PR in the hope that this will ease off. 🙏 thanks for your comment, it really helps to know things should get easier with his hours. Family time is important to us, and it's why we moved here

Yep - professionals work long hours. As a contractor need to be very careful in what gets specified in the contract. When it comes up for renewal negotiate your own terms rather than let it just rollover. They will screw every which way. Hourly rates rather than daily ones will at least provide better value for money.

Hi guys ,a brilliant warts and all chat about Australia. These videos are so important and people need to be made aware of all aspects. We moved to a regional area north of Brisbane so boredom drove us insane as we werent beach people and there was little else to do. Distances were so great to travel so we felt terribly isolated from civilization!. In the UK this has never been an issue. Sydney did concern us as there were so many shootings. My favourite area was proberly the Sunshine Coast. It really comes down to what suits each individual family. Happy Christmas to your beautiful family 🎄🎄🎄⛄🎅🎅🎅Xxx

Thank you, we don't want to come across negative in any way as Australia is really beautiful, it's just showing the things to really consider when coming over here - I feel these videos are really helpful. Australia is not for everyone, despite what people may believe so it's in no way 'failure' if it doesn't work out for you. Thanks for all your support on my channel ❤️

@@kimberleylucas I think you are doing people a favour Kimberley by being honest. There's for and against wherever we live but at least people can know the facts and make up their own mind. My family's experience and views of Australia are definitely not everyones. Living in a new country is totally different to a holiday vibe. I think you cover some great points in your videos and with honesty and a fair outlook. Sending you all love from a slighter cooler UK! Xx🎄🎄⛄⛄⛄⛄⛄⛄⛄🎅

@@krisjames4276 are you in a gang? Honestly. I’ve lived in Sydney all my life, I’ve never seen a gun,heard a gun,know anyone that owns one. You have more chance of being eaten by a shark walking down the street. It is literally one of the safest cities in the world. I’ve just read a report that has Sydney at number 4.

The majority of migrants, tourists and international students since 2000 have come from East & South Asia. Harris Park near Westmead in Sydney has the highest number of PhDs in Sydney but the largest religion is Hindu likewise Cabramatta huge Vietnamese heritage area and v large Chinese heritage population Chatswood / Strathfield area. No longer Surrey or Dundee in the Sun.

Interesting video good job. Did you guys feel much guilt about the decision to leave family and emigrate? If you did, what made you decide to do it anyway? Especially when I'm assuming there are grandparents back home who miss their grandchildren. This is the biggest topic I have been thinking about recently when considering moving.
@kimberleylucas

hello! i've had A LOT of messages about this topic. i think i'll do a wee video on it, explaining how we broke the news and how family took it. absolutely felt guilt, its not an easy decision at all. x

I want to be helpful. Aussies find the Scottish accent quite difficult to understand, especially when spoken at your usual speed. I follow another Scottish RU-vidr regularly and often I cannot understand what he is saying. For other immigrants to Oz, such as the Chinese, Brazilian, etc, your version of English is even harder, because they are used to the Aussie or American version. I am thinking of your isolation and difficulty in socialising. I think people don’t want to let you know they can’t understand you. I think you will need to modify your accent, especially by slowing down and drawing out each word instead of clipping it short and moving on to the next word. I have studied a few languages so I realised that the way I spoke my own language was affecting my French, Spanish and German pronunciation.
@kimberleylucas
@kimberleylucas 8 месяцев назад
Thanks for your comment 😊 it's not an easy accent to understand but there's definitely thicker accents than ours in Scotland 😅 im sure just like Australia, some Aussies sound way different than others! We are learning to slow and speak clearer, to help people understand us, it will just take time 😊
@wizardcrystal
@wizardcrystal 8 месяцев назад
There's nothing wrong with your accent, don't change a thing. What a rude, offensive and unnecessary comment that was
@coraliemoller3896
@coraliemoller3896 8 месяцев назад
@@wizardcrystal The comment was intended to help in socialising to alleviate isolation. Honesty sometimes is hurtful. I could not understand her partner so I stopped watching. I have studied French, Spanish, Italian and German so I know that pronunciation has to be comprehended by the listener. The speaker has to adapt, not the listener. Maybe their attempts to socialise are hampered. If they don’t have a circle of friends after another year will they stay or go? Up to them. Is it worth getting some training?
@elenawalker3746
@elenawalker3746 8 месяцев назад
@@coraliemoller3896 Well the accent didn't hamper his efforts in getting a job and working here, perhaps YOU need to adapt more listening skills.
@coraliemoller3896
@coraliemoller3896 8 месяцев назад
@@elenawalker3746 I’ve studied several languages so my listening skills are OK. They mentioned their isolation. If the accent can be adjusted it may be less likely that they would remain isolated. It was a concern that they raised. Having been a beginner in a few languages I know that the speaker has to make the effort to be understood. They have come to a country where few people- including other migrants- are familiar with their way of speaking. It is their choice if they want to remain isolated or try to make it work. It would be a pity to come all this way but not make adjustments to the reality they find here. Protecting feelings over practical solutions is not helpful.
