Thanks Kimberley, I enjoyed this video. You're not alone in your fear of the insects we have here. The spiders & cockroaches are so creepy & can be incredibly large. Whenever I go to visit my sister who lives in England it amazes me that the houses don't have insect screens. It's so interesting looking at life in Sydney from the perspective of a person from overseas, I would like it if you could show something re your grocery shop / cooking etc.

Just to let you know that eye tests are usually fully covered by Medicare but you need to pay for your actual glasses. Private insurance can help with the costs of your glasses. Also, if you are an Australian citizen or permanent resident then you are covered by Medicare even if you do not pay any tax due to being on a lower income. Often GPs will bulk bill children even if they do not bulk bill adults. Also, many GPs bulk bill people who receive a government pension or have a health care card due to being on a lower income or if they are a senior with a health card even if the practice does not bulk bill working adults. You just have to check with the GP Practice ahead of booking an appointment to be sure of their individual approach. Some localities/areas have more bulk billing practices than others and some patients will travel a distance to attend a bulk billing practice, especially if they do not have a chronic condition which requires ongoing care. I hope this helps understand it all a little more. If you need to see a specialist doctor, you can do this either through the public hospital system outpatients or see a private specialist. It is free if you use the hospital system but you may have to wait quite some time, depending on your locality and the specialty concerned. If you see a private specialist for a consultation, then Medicare will refund you a portion of the fee. Private health insurance does not cover private specialist consultations but will cover a portion of private day hospital or overnight hospital stays in a private hospital. How much it covers will depend on the exact insurance you have and can range from almost the total cost to only a portion. Of course, you can also use the public hospital system for free but would have to wait for non urgent procedures. If you are in an accident or have an urgent issue, then you will receive immediate assistance from the public hospital for free. In some States, you may need ambulance cover which is usually part of any private health insurance but you can get ambulance insurance on it own too. Again, if you are on a lower income and/or qualify for a government pension or health care card, I believe that the ambulance is free.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write out this very detailed reply. Its certainly made things much clearer - Medicare is very complicated to understand but once you get it then it seems easy enough to follow. I appreciate you letting me know about eye tests - thank you. I did check with my practice about my kids but they dont seem to offer bulk billing. There is another one local that does offer bulk billing which is also good to know. Thanks again for your help :)

Good vid. Love the neighbourhood - if you’d told me you were in South Africa, I’d have believed you, looks so so similar!

Oh really! I've never been to South Africa, not sure how I imagined it would look but that's good to know! 😅

One important thing is the Medicare safety net. If your costs above the Mededicare rebate reach a certain level in one year then Medicare increases the rebate substantially and then if you still spend more Medicare again increases to 100%, so you are protected in case of larger costs.

G'day there! on the medical issues...I used to go to a bulk billing practice in Liverpool and there were several in my area...Here on the Central Coast there is a slight shortage of GP's and virtually none bulk bill. Mine charges $81 for a full consult and I get $41 back...remember that all your pathology like at Douglas Hanley Moir etc should be fully covered by Medicare. I have 2 full blood work-ups per year and all covered...With the PBS the most you will ever pay for prescriptions is $30... For future reference we had a blue tongue lizard in our yard in Sydney and while a lot bigger than your Eastern Water Skink they are awesome for eating up every snail in the garden! and I think they are pretty cute :-). Cheers!

Usually when someone gets their house treated the survivors just move next door. Summer is the worst time of year for cockroaches getting our place treated every year along with a termite inspection I reckon is well worth the expense. If you know someone with their own buisness the cost can be a lot less than using the bigger pest companies...Ask around people can sometimes give you the name of someone that they use to do their properties. I usually expect to see a huntsmen when its rainy and wet they like coming inside for shelter, they are completely harmless the biggest risk is that they can give you a bit of a fright when they appear unexpectedly.

Just use a Tupperware container to catch insects. Slide a bit of paper underneath them and once in the container put the lid on. This is how catch huntsmen spiders. But you have to be real close to them before quickly putng the container over them as soon as they know somethings up they will quickly move.

Good content Kimberley. Love how honest and open your vlogs are. You seem to be very efficient and domesticated, my wife and you would get on like a house on fire😂. Hoping to move to Oz from the UK with my family next year, it's Brisbane for us. Good luck in your venture👍🤞

Cockroaches aren't nice but no threat. Big spiders indoors aren't a drama, they keep other creepy crawlies under control. Your too big for them too chase.Leave them when you see them because they most likely won't be there tomorrow

A lot of people tell me they are good to have in your house - i think my concern just now is that we dont know enough about them, ie the dangerous ones and the friendly ones! haha my little boy loves to get up close and im terrified he tried to touch the wrong ones!

Morten professional pack from supermarket is great. It comes with a spray gun and you spray outside windows and doors.

Your havefeve is getting to you due to spring and all the wattle around. It wont help with westerly winds as all the blue mountains will have plants flowering now. Summer you should be ok.

Not all Australia is the same , we only have one doctor centre , they have 4 to 5 doctors and currently it is bulk billing , but when ownership changes the bulk billing may stop like it did two owners ago , it's also takes about a week to get a booking , although you may get lucky and get in the next day if there's been a cancellation

Thank you for this - I live in Sydney and can only really give my personal experience so i appreciate you letting me know. Are you from Sydney too? its certainly better than the UK :)

No I'm north east Tasmania , in a country town of 1500 people or less, at times we have had more doctors surgeries but one company seems to have a monopoly on rural doctor practises in tas over the last 3 years. Yeah you did make it clear that this was from your experiences , it's great that you say it's better than the UK as I have heard the UK is better than many other countries when it comes to medical expenses and waiting times .

@jasondilworth2767 this sounds like my ideal place 😍 I'm a country girl. City is way too busy for my liking. I like a community feel, small town always has that 🥹🫶 as for health care, it was all free in the UK but wait times were just crazy and always rushed. Hospital times were even worse. It's a shame

Kimbo, try a bit of red wine in a saucer for roaches. I don't know if they just get pussed or it's not too healthy for em but it seems to work. Thanks for your wee tups mate. ❤❤❤❤

Loved this video, very helpful. Am I right thinking you are on a 482? Is the Medicare you are getting through the reciprocal healthcare agreement with the UK?
