I have been stung by bull ants and can confirm that their bites are incredibly painful. But there are no further effects.

Unless you are allergic like my brother.... one of the little black ants? He has a bite the size of a rockmelon. Green ants? He will start to have a swollen throat and tongue within 30 mins? Bitten by a bullant? He would be dead within 15 mins...... and back in the 70's there wasn't much in the way of epipens etc. He had exposure therapy, where my mum had to inject him 2 times everyday with small portions of venom. But it didn't work. We spent our childhoods making sure he wasn't around ants. Now of course, he carries an epipen with him always and ensures his house and yard are sprayed for ants every year.

Copped about 20 Jack jumper bites once, hurt like f&%k, started to hallucinate and ran around screaming for about 5 hours.

That channel 9 news reporter was a trooper. In a space of a month she got a cigarette flicked in her face, an esky of water thrown at her, and got bitten by a bull ant. 😂

We have an outbreak of fire ants in our local area right now. Landscapers have been closed and my local mowing guy can't dump green waste at the tip. It's a big deal.

Been bitten and stung by them quite a few times. I can walk around barefoot and be fine, but as soon as I put shoes and socks on they get in my sock and keep biting and sting me until you get them out. The worse is when you accidentally put your hand or foot near the nest, which happens when you go camping.

Also been bitten by the jumping jacks too. I have used stingos spray for the pain. If don't have that cold water helps to ease the pain. Or you just wait the annoying pain out for a few minutes

I really like echidnas and despite common opinions they are really easy to pick up in spite of their spines. However, the roll themselves into a ball and just will not come out while humans are still around.

As a kid I suffered numerous bull ant stings, and they bloody hurt! I was only stung by a jumping jack once, but I remember it as more painful than their larger cousins.

yep grew up with these, we called them inch ants, i can attest that you can step on them and drive them into the dirt with your foot and walk away and they will just get back up and be on their way, if you get a little stick and tap around their nest entrance they will come out and attack the stick

some of the bigger ants with stingers are just wasps without wings.

In my part of Brisbane they have helicopters flying around looking for fire ants. My husband was bitten by fire ants and ended up on antibiotics and inflammatory cream. Nasty little buggers.

The bullant bite is kind of like similar pain to banging your shin. It's a lil less but it throbs so it last longer

I'm in my 50's and one of my most prevalent memories is of sitting at the side of the house on a rock in my mums garden and being bitten on the bum by a bullant........ DAMN THAT HURT..... I've been stung by a bee, stung by wasps, trodden on a huntsman and been bitten...... and NONE of that hurt as much as a bullants bite on my little bum lol

I've luckily only had too deal with green ants mainly, except for those big, creepy orange ones. Green ants are cool though, but instead of killing you they just leave a big sore spot that won't piss off lol

My daughter is anaphylactic to jumper jacks. Luckily she’s only been stung once but has an Epipen just in case. Rash swelling increased heart rate anxiety attack elevated breathing etc all from 2 little stings on her foot. Jumpers spring like all get out anyway and they are extremely aggressive. 2-3% of Aussies are severely allergic to these ants with that number being higher in Tasmania & deaths have occurred due to this.

My wife has an incredible tolerance to pain. She once got bitten on the foot by 6-8 bull ants and just kept on weeding the garden. No kidding, I would have probably been in a coma. Those things really, really hurt.

A 77 year old here. As kids, we called those large black ants bull ants and the red ants soldier ants. The black ants are thicker than the soldier ants and were commonly found individually outside of their nests, while the soldier ants would hunt in a line or similar. Either one would give a very nasty nip. ... Then there are the meat ants .... Throw a dead rat on their nest and it's gone by morning.

Man when I was a kid, it used to be fun to stir up a bull ant nest, so I can confirm (through youthful stupidity) they hurt when the bite.😂😂😂😂

We were taight from babyhood to avoid them. One day my mum came ot to the porch to find me with a bull-ant butt hanging out of my mouth. I’d decided to bite back apparently. And I was fine.

Don't worry no problem, we had them in our school. Catch them, make them fight each other like cricket. Part of growing up in Oz.

It's good if they have a nest in your house, cause they help to keep the spiders in check. 😮😮😮

I read something recently about ants , don't know if it's accurate as I don't understand how they could possibly measure, but apparently, the weight of all the ants on the planet is 60 Billion times greater than humans.

The reason animals in Australia seem to ‘evolve’ faster: Australia soil, water and air have too much vitamins.

Little bastard bull ant bit me on the little toe last night whilst walking the dog...in thongs of course😁 It somehow latched on while walking, as I hadn't stopped...little fkr! Had no option but to walk it off, as I was 20 mins from home. Was uncomfortable for a few hours afterwards.

They used to live around my camping area/ swimming hole I take a thermostat with boiling water and a cup full of sand drown the nest and put the sand in leaving a pile of sand to cap the steam in they can't remove the sand because of their huge jaws the small black ants will swarm and attack the bull ants take over their nest .
