Peterson saved my life. I had panic attacks, depression, was in really bad place, could not get along with my family, I was a pushover. But Peterson, together my psychoterapist saved me. I've cleaned my room
My pea size brain cannot absorb a great deal of what Mr Peterson is saying, but when he said to try to be a better person today than you were yesterday, has changed my life. This is something I can do!!
Glad to know. How did you managed? My sister died almost one year ago, since then my mom and Lil sister have panic attacks.. My Focus on work somehow keeps me functional, but don't know how yo help them.
@@charly.chavez oh, such an old comment :) well, its really hard to find strength when this are bad, but you just keep fighting, you have to want a better life so bad that you wake up in ghe morning and know that you have to be stronger and it will take time but eventually it will be better, just dont give up. Anything that is great takes time to achieve it. And find a good psychiatrist, in my case she is a psychoanalytic, having therapy sessions once a week for more than 3 years now. See if get alomg with a specialist, see if she/ he understands you, if no, try another. Never been happier or did better in my life. Just dont give, know that it will take time, but I know no other way.
The moment I saw you standing outside that university and proclaiming that you would not accept compelled speech I knew you were going to change the world for the better.
Touching to see Jordan getting emotional about the positive influence he is having on individual lives. Further proves his integrity, sincerity, and genuine design for uplifting others.
Isa Then you don't read any of his comment sections, attend his lectures, or pay much attention to anything but your made-up outrage if you think only males appreciate Doc JBP and his words.
Isa I love the way you put people’s names in speech marks as if they’re pseudonyms. Deliciously idiotic! Oh and also, everything Peterson says is applicable to and for the benefit of women. You aren’t understanding what he is saying and I don’t think you’ve experienced enough of his work. Open you ears and your heart “Isa”.
I suspect the gender divide in Peterson's viewership is largely algorithmic in origin- 62% of youtube's audience as a whole is male. The majority of (for lack of a better term) "intellectual" content on youtube is generated by males. It would follow that male voices would attract male audiences, and the algorithms of recommended videos would widen the gap. Broadly though, Isa, I urge you to step back for a moment and analyze your own comments in the greater context of this page. Look at what Janice wrote- what, specifically, seems angry about their comment? You are obviously projecting. And for good reason- you seem to believe that Peterson's message is actively harmful to women. It's a fair reason to get passionate. You seem to be somewhat familiar with his words, but I suspect that the comments you are referring to were presented to you piecemeal and outside their grander context. Peterson has never stated or alluded to women being "biologically determined reproductive beings with no other purpose in life". This is an offensive allegation. He has spoken of the gender differences between men and women, yes- mostly the fact that women are more interested in people, while males are more interested in things. He has also talked at length about the fact that men and women are overwhelmingly more similar than they are different, but that the differences still matter in terms of psychological interests, and especially variances in extreme ends of scales (those who are the most violent, or the most nurturing, for instance). I challenge you to link to anything that implies that he believes that women cannot be heroes, or that women cannot offer anything meaningful to society- you will not be able to. When he speaks of the logos being traditionally masculine, he is speaking from an archetypal and historical perspective. The symbols that have survived thousands of years of human development, which have sprung into being independently across time and culture. There is no reason that these things cannot change. He would merely urge caution with regards to social engineering and the staunch belief that these symbols are inherently dangerous or harmful. Everyone suffers, men and women alike. Everyone is imperfect and tainted by malevolence. Everyone would be better off with a sense of purpose in their lives, and things to aim at in order to better themselves and those in their immediate vicinities. These messages are helpful to women- I know because they have similarly helped my girlfriend, who is in her own words a social justice magician (Because she'd rather not play a warrior). I implore you to listen to his message with a bit more of an open mind, if my suspicions that you are mostly going off of think-pieces or the analysis of others when describing what's dangerous about his message are correct. If they aren't, I'd really like to hear what you specifically determine to be harmful- afterall, the fact that a large number of people seem to think that Peterson is a harmful figure definitely gives me pause. However, what you said about his opinions on the "essential nature of women" or that he thinks "women can only participate in culture insomuch as they mimic men" are patently untrue from everything I've seen.
John Anderson is a interviewer of a very high standard. He took out the best of Jordan Peterson. Two men I admire. Thank you so much for this interview!
Dear Mr. Peterson, I’m one of those persons whos life you have changed for the better. My anger and resentment towards the world and people around me is slowly going away. I’m concentrating on bettering myself and my situation, and everything in my life has turned around. Instead of hammering my head in a wall, and blaiming the wall for it, I walk where the path is open. I succeed in most things I try to do, because I no longer want the impossible. I have folowed you for a year on youtube, and read your book. People are actually asking me what has happend to me lately, and I tell them «Jordan Peterson». You, sir, made me find what I had lost. Thank you.
Thank you, August! It's a very good feeling to finally succeed in something, and understand why things go better. It's hard, and I have to concentrate, but I have a great teacher:-)
You are born with your first language and it is as, no more, developed as what you use now. Your primary language is always your second language. I know, because I remember great detail of before I was 1 and I had a language, I just couldn't speak it:)
batmandeltaforce!!?...Doubtful unless you are claiming to have an IQ over 180. I, personally, can only recall being 3, even then, it's only fleeting moments of sensation barely breaking the surface point of distinction between subconscious and surface-conscious where sense of Individuality is birthed withing consciousness as a whole.
I don't want to listen to the whole interview again - so from memory: He tried to attribute the abolishment of slavery to religion in some sense. Totally failing to acknowledge that religious doctrine permitted slavery in the first place. The US probably would not have had wide-spread slavery if the bible disapproved of it in a further commandment. He was trying to make a case against atheists - where JP stopped him and said that they often struggle with religion and think about it more than (some/most) religious people. I disagree with JP on many topics. And I am pretty sure he is wrong in some of his beliefs. But I acknowledge that JP is a thinker. The interviewer does not seem to be much of a critical thinker. Just a well-meaning, conservative, religious dude who does not question his beliefs.
It is not only young men you are helping to, Jordan =) I am a young woman and I find your lectures the greatest resource of concentrated knowledge. Thank you so much for sharing it. It is so great to have a guidance in self-exploration and so great to see that not the whole world is mad, and there are Us. Even greater to see that there are more than a million of Us =)
He always mentions his lectures/books/etc were never meant for men only. Just happens that youtube viewers are mostly male. I think I remind him saying his audience became more female once his books came out.
16:40 *GOLD* "There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition, and of unspeakable love." ~ Washington Irving Thank you for our interview, Doc.
Six years ago I spoke these words at the funeral of a dear friend of mine. They are just as powerful to me today as they were then. Thank you for posting them.
david broughall i resonate deeply with these words too - esp. when tears intersect my life and a numinous moment dances between the heights of absurdity and the depths of profundity. i think they call it kismet. ;) i was also fortunate enough to sit down with dr peterson and have a short chat. you'll find it on my yt channel. :)
When Jesus went to the tomb of his friend Lazarus, he cried. While many people are frustrated that God allows suffering, this story shows that He cares deeply for those who suffer. A lot to think about in this story.
I have never met Dr Peterson, but I love this man like the brother I never had. There is an inexpressible kinship of *humanness* that transcends social façades, blood relationship and physical space. When he is emotional I become emotional too - never fails. Really looking forward to seeing him in person in Philadelphia.
Shelly Kennedy beautiful words :) I will also be in Philadelphia looking forward to learning more from this great man and hoping to send this message forward by my own means in the future.
Me too, Shelly. His tears get me every time. How the blind and deaf can toss such vile words at this man... This man who cares so deeply about others, well, there aren't words for those poor, misguided fools. Have fun in Philly! I'm catching him in Dallas! I can't wait for my 17 year old son to see him. So excited!!!
You're getting it wrong. Peterson correctly recognizes the horrible way human mind has been shaped by evolution to be a tool for victory and survival, at the cost of our own souls and sanity. Christianity, most religions developed as a response to that. As tools for letting people coexist in a less violent fashion.
Welcome to the tribe! He sets a standard for ourselves and for how we evaluate the people and societies around us, and how we should and could respond to live a genuine, purposeful, and admirable life with integrity. What could be a better gift than this?
Mr. John Anderson, you're one interviewer who has done justice to Jordan Peterson. Awesome mature and sincere discussion. I've of the best no nonsense talk. No words...
55 here too, it brings a smile to my heart when I see younger people post comments as if Dr. Peterson is saying something new. Nothing trumps moral absolutes spoken and lived with conviction.
@rock pool @D. Saunders @Caroline H. @Janice Philips @JM W Oh my, oh my ! Would you look at that ^_^ ? /watch?v=EF8GhC-T_Mo&t=0s Jokes aside, your presence is so valuable. All of you remembered me about my parents who are close to their 50's. Despide of their inability to understand english (we've got another native language) they are as present and receptive towards this knowledge as you are in the proximity of Dr. Prof. Jordan Peterson. Thank you ! And don't you ever stop here. I, as a son close to my 30's, this has been an absolute value in them which gave me a seed of courage which blooms with a power now that even overwhelms me.
We here in Australia could use John Anderson back in the public eye. Probably one of the best interviews with Jordan Peterson I've ever watched. Thank you gentlemen...
Many pearls of wisdom to pick from here, but the one that has impacted me the most, although deep inside I already knew it (as Dr. Peterson said) is the bit about how a person who is a mess and feels like shit does not need to hear "you are already perfect the way you are", you help them much more by saying "yes, you are a mess but you can do something about it and fix yourself".
Yes I have done that, of realizing I did not have to be the way I was. But I never had the process of how it happened till now. He made words I heard my whole life come to a workable conclusion. Not only am I ok I am ok in the struggle to find out how to be ok to a true standard. Simple you are responsible for what you are, BE THE FREAKING BEST YOU CAN BE in a way that adds to life, builds life Praise God Praise God and over comes the darkness that would consume. Fear doubt and hopelessness wants to over whelm and the struggle to walk right is the good fight it describes in scriptures, so onward and upward. Inch by inch line upon line. :)
What a relic this man is. You know someone is of incredible worth, when after hearing him speak, the thought of "I dread the day when he passes on" comes involuntarily to your head multiple times, and you try to shake it off as hard as if it were related to a family member. Thank you so much, Dr. Peterson. An ovation of John Anderson as well, hadn't heard of him thus far, what a great interviewer, clearly also very intelligent and educated, looking forward to see more of him
My early childhood was spent in Hydaburg, a native fishing village in SE Alaska. I have lived my life and raised my son with the seven Haida rules of manhood. They are really simple. 1.Don't Lie (In reality, Haida language does not have a word for "Lying" which is a foreign concept. What they actually say is "Don't talk out of both sides of your mouth.) 2. Don't Cheat 3. Don't Steal 4. Do Your Best 5. Keep Your Word 6. Tend your own fire 7. Tote Your Own Load Sounds to me a lot like what you advocate for.
This is one of the best interviews with Dr JBP I have seen, and I find myself re-watching it every few months to remind myself of the main points discussed. I greatly appreciate it and also am proud of my fellow Australian John Anderson. More and more proud during the current times. I refer to people like him as a guidance for what society was like during the arguable economic and social peak of Australian society and try to live my life according to their ideas about what created the societies they had during their prime years.
I never heard of John Anderson, but he is something special. This interview encapsulates everything of who Jordan Peterson is and what he's been doing. This interview should spread much farther than the Kathy Newman One as to what Jordan Peterson represents. Please share this to your nearest leftist idealog today.
Aaron Burroughs he was Australia's deputy prime minister during John Howard's prime ministership. They were the best leadership Australia has had in my living memory (I'm 32). Now i see he was just as intelligent as he was good.
this is the first interviewer, who is an actual interviewer. He is respectful, he is engaging, he is discussing things with peterson and attempting to understand them by listening. take notes vice. yuhx
Dr. Peterson, I don’t know for sure if I’ve ever written a note of gratitude to you. I feel completely compelled to write this, even though it’s destined to be lost to the sea of comments. I am so grateful to you. I know everything you say is truly what you believe. I really can’t explain how much you’ve changed my life. As someone in your 1/4, I knew all of this. I’ve always known. I haven’t fixed everything, but now everything is at least brought to the surface. Thank you. Seriously, thank you. I’m sure you’ve realized it, but having watched from the beginning of the SJW attack until now, you are a real life hero. An example of the INCREDIBLE results of courageously risking comfort for pursuit of the truth and what is right. Thank you.
It's not often that you could listen to a conversation in excess of and hour as a young person and feel completely captivated. What an insightful talk!
Jordan, I'm a young man from Mexico, really struggling with life, and I just want to say thank you for everything you've done... I have been obssesed with your lectures lately, and as a psychology student I can say you have completely changed my perspective about life, and psychoanalisis in particular. I don't think you know this (maybe you do), but you are a big father figure for many people (including myself), so I hope one day I'll be able to go to one of your lectures to meet you in person :)
These people ^ mislead and probably live lives of desperation and envy. Take up your cross, being good is more profound and useful than you'd like to admit. And I think most people wish they were better at being good rather than a negative force like you two, but I don't know you. Take some responsibility in your life, there's no reason to insult Jordan- a man who's trying to be a light in a sea of darkness while you spread more darkness. And call me dramatic but life is full of drama
Richard there's zero shame in feeling emotional about helping people, it actually takes some strength and at the minimum indicates having the courage of one's convictions He believes what he teaches, obviously. Anyone who dismisses "Sargon" as being irrelevant; to the extent of making it their username, is likely just petty and small-minded and as far as Peterson having "a shallow existence" I find that laughable. Maybe a bit of projection there? How many books have you written? Anyway, I agree with the original post and with Collins' assessment. You two come off as sad and bitter. I will _certainly_ trust that a college professor and clinical Psychologists' show of emotion is heartfelt, and valid and you two can keep your *sour grapes* If you tried, maybe one day, you too can reach some level of "adultness" rather than your childish, weak, attempts to criticize your intellectual superiors. Its in the realm of posiblilties, but i wouldnt put money on it. Peace.
Richard Richard I just don't understand people like you. I like comedy, but you're not funny. You actively bring everyone down when you say things like that when a person is showing genuine love.
Dr. Peterson . . . thank you, sir. Praise God for you, sir. You have changed my life immeasurably. I love the gravitas you give to the, so often flippantly asked "do you believe in God". I love your deep concern for precise language . . . your courage. . . your lectures have influenced me more profoundly than any other secular philosophy by far! I thank God for you. Thank you, sir.
It means the world to me that individuals mean the world to you. You actually CARE about people in a deep way, sometimes even more than they care about themselves. I appreciate that more than you know. Thank you Dr. Peterson
Idid no what happened was my phone autocorrected and instead of the word subs (subscribers) it put suns. I didn’t catch it until he pointed it out, at which point I corrected it to subs.
im extremely impressed by doctor peterson, a very intelligent man, over the yrs since ive noticed him online ive notice the weight he bears is really starting effect him, i can see that stress in his eyes, would be terrible having to watch every word you say in case you slip up or say something that maybe used against you , please doctor peterson, take the time to look after you as well
In a weird way I think the stress makes him more up for the fight. He seems to be a guy that believes more challenge makes a person stronger. Constantly overcoming. A modern day "superman."
Steve g Yes he’s been through a lot of persecution but thank God he is finally being so appreciated as he should be. I admire and respect him immensely and he is helping me be a better person. Yes i hope and pray he is taking great care of himself. WE NEED HIM. ❤️ love him so much.
I feel you but it’s good to question any ideology because if we don’t we won’t find the flaws. But ya I don’t like the guys that just try to make any ideology they hate seem like it’s the spawn of satan.
@@rickydillard1819 yes of course we need to challenge ideas, but we also need to work together to see how good they can be. As you said, if we destroy everything at the first word, it's useless. Good comment.
@@rickydillard1819 sure it's good to question ideologies, but I don't think it works well to try and poke holes in Peterson's ideas since all he's doing is trying to make people better one person at a time. calling the betterment of people through taking responsibility for their life an ideology that needs to be questioned is an atrocious way of thinking and it's why I loathed watching his interviews with big news outlets who hate him for reasons they don't even understand.
So powerful. If you want your life back, it starts with taking responsibility for it. Thank you Dr Peterson. I discovered you from your last Joe Rogan interview. Sorry I missed you when you visited Australia.
No joke haha almost wanted to cry listening to him, didn't need to listen to him to understand the strength in emotion that was there! So much respect for this guy
Hello to your Dad, Dr. Peterson !! (who's most probably reviewing your channel right about now) God Bless you Sir for fathering such a good human being and effective teacher for Humanity. Grandpa ! :)
Sargon is Irrelevant It sounds like ur the one with the shallow life dude. First off, you named your account to spite a pretty decent youtuber. Second, it’s not relevant to his messages he’s saying that his family is genetically disposed to depression. You should probably try listening to what he’s actually saying before trying to discredit him.
I've read Peterson before he became RU-vid famous - his research in leadership dynamics; I've listened to all he has to say and I find him, on the whole, to be intellectually dishonest and his followers to be intellectually lazy. The weeping Peterson who is beloved because he won a debate against some crazed leftist new reporter is a remnant of the 20th century. He's an old man who has lived too long and young fellows like myself will make hay critiquing his pop psychology.
Probably my favorite JP convo after the ones with Rogan. I first put it in the background while doing some work then became totally entranced in the discussion and stopped what I was doing to watch the entire thing. Incredible conversation.
After seeing/listening to 100+ hours of JBP, you'd expect you wouldn't learn any more from another video. Boy, how I was wrong.. This has to be one of his best 5 videos ever, the amount of wisdom distilled, articulated and condensed is just mind-blowing Thank you so much, Dr. Peterson
You know, I always thought I was intelligent; that I was a deep thinker and well-spoken. In coming across Dr. Peterson I am astounded at the facility with words, speech and thought. Astounded. I am so glad he is here and able to teach us.
The genuine feelings of this man are so obvious, he is not scared to show his feelings about other people. He is a one-off in time, there simply is no other person so qualified and so generous. Your followers love you for this Dr Peterson. *** Journo-hacks take note: dont attack this guy or we, his followers, will boycott you in support of him. We are legion.***
@@mrs.schmenkman It is mostly men even though it is gender neutral teachings. Men are more lost in this mess of a world. Just look at what is being said about maleness from the left and how evil masculinity is said to be. It will, in the end destroy males and females by destroying their relationships with each other and with the greater purpose of destroying the family structure. Dr. P teaches us how to be better people my cleaning up ourselves first and then working on other things. I had a dad similar to this and it was too late for me to say thank you by the time I had realized what he had really taught me. Watching Dr. P reminds me of him, I'm 56.
Raena Jennings Been there! I became aware of him the 1st time Crowder had him on his show (about a year and a half ago) and there is still so much to take in!
That was the most utterly pathetic response I've read in my life. Are you sure you should be on the internet, instead of knitting quilts or checking the mail for your pension check? ;D
This is one of the best interviews I've ever watched. Seems like a guy who actually studies his subject -thoroughly- before sitting down to talk with them.
Who else lowkey loves it when someone interrupts Jordan and he still just says “mhm?” And isn’t mad at all compared to so many other highly respected thinkers would get mad. Very humble guy.
It always leaves me stunned how emotional Doctor Peterson gets when he talks of the people that turn to him for guidance and help, and how little it takes for him to help them. It's sort of bittersweet.
What a wonderful interview! I have been coddled for most of my 61 year life, and I am pretty anxious. But there is still time for me to stop coddling myself, and those around me. To stand up, use my imagination, and be free! Thank you, Dr. Peterson!
I cleaned my room too and I'm still a disgusting mess inside; maybe I should hit everything in my room with a high-PSI power washer loaded with corrosive bleach?
What is wonderful is that now you will sit down in a lovely, orderly, clean environment and think, "I deserve this." So you now are not a person who lives in squalor. Step one to being the person you want to be!
I have listened to I cannot say how many talks, lectures and conversations between JBP from individuals, to packed houses with thousands of people and he is ALWAYS speaking to a single person. This conversation is now nearly 4 years old and heard him say many of these same things multiple times, yet... he is still fascinating. Not to under appreciate John here, as he asks great questions, pays attention to the answers he receives and has a wonderful calm about him. That calm, in turn, is a nice thing for Jordan, as he has so many times been surrounded by aggressive people seeking that big "gotcha" moment for their followers to cut up and make hit pieces on him. Bravo to both of you and thanks for a nice conversation :)
I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for simply doing what you do. By giving these perspectives a voice you may be very well saving the West from falling off the cliffs that we have been thrust towards since the early 1900s. The Fabian Society and the other groups that remain more cloaked have used every trick in their books to subvert our cultures for the end goal of our own destruction. You speak such a powerful message of self determination and true liberty in this existence that you deserve every bit of praise that you receive. Thank you so much Mr. Peterson.
It is a challenging thing to do when you really examine your life. Over the past three years, I've dived deep into the darkest recesses of my own psyche and was being swallowed up by the realizations of not only who I am, but what humanity is. I do this through a scientific perspective, specifically evolutionary biology and physics. I came close to killing myself or planning my end a few times, with my ties to my family, whom I love greatly, keeping me here. I'm not religious whatsoever. Listening and reading Dr. Peterson's work since his first podcast with Joe Rogan has given me context to all I have examined and I find myself motivated by these dark realizations, rather than condemned by them. With tears in my eyes, I am forever grateful to this honest, brilliant man. Keep fighting for the world, Jordan. You've inspired me to do the same and not give up on humanity.
David Budo thank you for sharing this. It’s not even easy to share what you have written... and your sharing will inspire ppl like me to be critical and kind when examining own self.
Your own quest doesn't seem to be going particularly well, judging from the trite poisonous barbs you're posting on this thread. I can't think of many public people LESS like a demagogue than Dr Peterson.
So you're upset that he didn't kill himself and found his own purpose? You sound jealous and resentful, I suggest you spend some time in self reflection. Your way is not his way, your thoughts are not his thoughts, as it is vice versa. Your reliance on yourself is a narcissistic illusion you've convinced yourself of; you're afraid of whats beyond your fragile little ego. You are not all knowing, your only grasp on the totality of reality is limited to your narrow short life. This is why we take direction and tutorship from others, or as you call it a "demagogue" of people.
I do. It's the only worthwhile thing on television. I hadn't watched television in 10 years as I could see the damage it was doing to our society. Now, I put Jordan on RU-vid and it goes endlessly. I have sons who would benefit greatly from anything he says and, in a way, Peterson does a better parenting job with men's life issues than I can do.
He is very poetic in the way he speaks. I envy that about Mr. Peterson. I continue to educate myself with his lectures on my days off. I live by these principles because I am in recovery and I strive to make each day my masterpiece. I live honestly and openly and have a spiritual connection with God. This is the standard by which humanity needs to live by. I’m just grateful that i am better than i used to be. God bless you Jordan.
I so wish he visits India! All politics in our country is IDENTIY politics whether on the left or on the right. We really need his message to permeate here
