Great stuff mate and yes I liked the fireplace.For my Assessment Day a couple of years ago in Melbourne they mixed things up a fair bit. Officer applicants were taken away first for a bit of essay writing to warm up. Then there were groups happening at the same time for psych, initial medical (eyesight, hearing, piss test, etc), interview and full medical by a Doctor - with a fair bit of waiting in the main room in between.For SF Direct Entry applicants there are extra psych and medical components.As the day went on, the numbers in the waiting room went down - partly from 'we have everything we need' and partly from 'not up to it, come back again or don't bother'.Like Cas said, these are people who are probably similar to you and may end up being your brothers/ sisters. Make the effort to be friendly and strike up a conversation even if it's as simple as "How did you go" after one of the assessment components. Don't sit there dicking around with your phone too much.If you're bored, pick up a copy of 'Soldier's Five' and have a read.

Got my assessment session tomorrow done everything in my power to prepare for this.

Great clip for the ones attempting to get into the Army Cas. I do remember many years ago when I successfuly went for the RAN Apprentices we were met by someone I thought was a Civilian, which I did think strange, and we had to do a Written Test. 2nd time I came in the same person but in full Naval Uniform and I was hooked! Further down the track the Psychological Interview was thorough. Lucky are the guys and gels to have your superb advice Cas, i went in cold.

im 17 just had my assessment session and was unsuccessful and told me to come back in 6 months ( i turn 18 in april) i thought i nailed it but didn't, i will come back 1000x more prepared.

I'm 16 years old, I'm up to my assessment day, I really hope I get in and get to continue on the legacy of the ANZACS.

I've got the virtual YOU session for the Reserves coming up this week, unfortunately I have some colour blindness which sounds like may preclude me from the Infantry GSO role I was interested in. At least because of your video it won't be a shock , so I'll just tell them straight up and see if there are any other opportunities for me. As of now, the aptitude test is: 3 attempts in total (in your life) with minimum 12 months in between. - off the phone with my recruiter today (10.01.2022.).

I've got an assessment day coming next week Cas. 10th of March 2021

I unlocked an ability to go to a higher technical role. Prior to the assessments, I re-wrote my year 10 and 11 math book. Re-doing all the exercise. I re-wrote my english book. I was ready, prepared to possibly be a Mechanic in the Army. Did all the tests, even bent of for the doctor to say "Hello". Later on the next day, when with the medical staff, a Sergeant comes over to us and shows us our aptitude and medical results. Everyone gets all these options, then there was me............. He outlines via my aptitude that I could almost do everything apart from Pay Clerk, Psyc and something else...... But, and it really was a big BUTT.......... He crosses out everything except cook, normal clerk, Op signals, some other things AND General Storeperson. Not even Clerk Technical, which is a part of the warehouse and Repair Parts Stores. Turns out there wasn't any sail boats in those books with the dots in them. He claims there was numbers and I only got 3 right, including the one that confirms I am a Colour Blind. Explains the blue ducks in primary school. Neither the less I was off to see the Corporals the wonderful Corporals of Kapooka...................... Was worth it, all of it, we'll except grave yard shift in a pit.

many things may get you disqualified whether it is a bad back, flat feet, bad back, memory problems, scoliosis, bad back, memory problems

Yeah imagine you're going to jump a creek that's only 1.5m wide but you're in full equipment and find out that creek is 1.5m deep (dammit!) so there's no jumping on foxes you want a perfect hide from to make a hat.

Hey CAS, friend of mine is wishing to join the Army Reserves with a history of depression (Has since been treated for it and has recovered). He has been given the all clear from his Psychologist and GP. Would you not recommend him joining? If you do, should he mention that he has dealt with it in the past? Both his psychologist and GP recommended he need not mention it if he's currently not suffering from it. Thanks!

No piss test or blood test for me. Blood was done at a local clinic a week later but paid for by defence.

Would that still likely be considered a disqualifying factor, or could that be looked past? Thanks

Hi guys need help what’s the brand of boots the ADF use I want to get a pair to prepare my feet.

Just a curious question!. Say im rejected when applying (now ive seen what you have said, and maybe it is plausible. Im not in your 17-24 age bracket.) It was however when I, started "Thinking, That this question needed asking." IF, the ADF, says i am "NOT WORTHY? or READY?" To become a member????? Can i ask? IF WW3 happens? and subscription is a forced thing! ! ! ! Is the ADF ok and accepting that i would NOT fight?! ( Unless paid a HIGHER MERCENARY FEE!) Since, they have ruled me "UNFIT!!" It seems to me, that as we border on WW3, that, telling me, im too old, or uneducated, or not fit, or whatever, possible hurdle appears (see we are in 2022 and China and Russia...want war...not like 2020 of OP) BUT...my curiosity is..." If i refuse to serve the Country, who told me i wasn't able to "Serve them!" What am i now? am i a Traitor? Really curious. (Obviously i dont need the ADF or Government to tell me to protect my Home and People, that just happens, I dont leave my people behind. BUT, its puzzled me for decades, that Aus Defence, has criteria, and often (based on small economy) they were super rigid. BUT, as we enter the next phase. I think, the Govt along with Military should be accountable, when the day comes that they "FORCE, the same people they REJECTED! To fight!" and be accountable for how poorly they did their job earlier.? Bottom line? "How Many Australians reading this would be "Understanding" of my decision to "NOT FIGHT!" Based on the FACT that the ADF!!! Told me i couldn't?! AND, if "FORCED!!! Would accept that i would be entitled to a MUCH LARGER PAY and BENEFIT!"

Hi Cas, I am currently under recruitment process for commando. I have been worried about my psych assessment as I have a history of PTSD from a young age. I have not shown symptoms for 2-3 years and worried if this would affect my application. I applied 3 years ago but I was ineligible for my permanent residency hence I’ve been waiting for this since then. I need information about commando and special forces recruitment process and psych disqualification benchmarks. Would really appreciate the help. Thanks.

I am not entirely sure if I have flat feet, but members of my family do, hence it may be true that I do too. I would like to ask if having flat feet does disqualify you straight away? Hey cas, thanks for the vids, they are a big help! Question regarding which role is best for me to go into. I have done substantial research but still can’t come to a conclusion. I am looking for a role that is not technically classed as a direct combat role, ie infantry, armoured or combat engineer but will get deployed a couple times within my time with the ADF. I am very interested in intelligence analyst but am not sure I will quality in the aptitude test. What would be a good second and third option for me? Open for idea’s and I understand not everyone has the same preferences. Hoping you can help with some advice. Thanks

Probably a long shot to get an answer for this, but for the medical questionnaire I put past history of depression and anxiety (DFR Nurse talked to me over the phone to clarify things too). Although, I've still been booked for additional testing (haven't even gotten an assessment day yet), is it still a wise choice to lie about past history on the assessment day? I've got Navy and Airforce roles as my preferences.

Hello, I did a Defence interview back in October 2019, and I passed, and went on to OSB. However, I got deferred from OSB for one year so as a result I have to retake an Assessment Day again around October 2020 (i am 18 yr old now) . Do you think the recruiters would expect higher of you when you come back? I think maybe not because its not going to be necessarily the same recruiter. What are your thoughts?

Medical question about my potential disqualification from enlistment please. I'm a 21yo Engineering student and am hoping to get sponsorship to complete the remaining 2 years at my uni then serve as a Mechanical / Mechatronics / Electrical Engineer (If not i'll enlist after uni). In September 2016 I had a spontaneous pneumothorax (lung collapse) which healed on it's own and another one in Feb 2018 which I had surgery for to fix it and my lungs have been perfect ever since. Will this disqualify me in the medical assessment? I am insanely eager to join with an army family history and pride for my country and really hope this doesn't prevent it. G'day mate, im looking to join the army in a few months once i've worked on fitness and aptitude tests. I have a history of epilepsy however have been medicated an since successfully been weaned off all medication without issue. Specialist said I'm doing well and good to go. Do they have any guideline and rules regarding my eligibility? I've tried looking into it, but can't find alot of information on a history of seziures affecting things.

Hey Cas mate, I used to have anxiety when I was 13, but it had been sorted that same year, and I have minor scoliosis so it has no affects on my health in any way. Would I be able to get a waiver to still be able to enlist or would that still disqualify me, even though I am healthy?

I am a civilian paramedic and nurse. I am applying to ADF but torn between where to apply, medic, nursing officer or commando direct entry as I am looking for a balance of fighting and medical things. What are the SF supporting nurses and medics like? Do the "voodoo medics" do any fighting ? are they trained same as a commando or SASR ? I am keeping my options and mind open, so also considering a career change into infantry/commando officer. I am an active MMA fighter, so I think I have some fitness and grit/resilience for infantry/commando.

Hey Cas, I have very light asthma and only get it when under very heavy PT training but I haven't had an asthma attack in 6 years. Would that be OK for the army? If I ever do get heavy breathing, 1 puff of Ventolin and a few seconds of slower running and I'm back in the game.
