Victoria closes its sponsorship invitations this week for the 491 and 190 visas.
Applying the TSMIT minimum of 70K to regional employers trying to sponsor their staff destroys the hopes of many businesses to take advantage of the migration boom.
We interview a chef working in regional NSW as an example.
VETASSESS skill assessments for trade workers will become fairer starting this week.

It is indeed nice of VETASSESS to change this feature so we can send the docs first and have them checked beforehand. It would have saved me so much time, headaches and money so I welcome it for everyone from now on :) Also about the TSMIT yes I agree its so difficult to find a job that is over the requirement. I have been so lucky to have it increased from 1st of July last year but, being in regional QLD, if I wanted to change company, I would have to reconsider it sooooo much, because not everyone can pay over 70k

Finally got my Skills Assessment. It took Vet 11 months to process it. That is double their stated processing times. Had I have known I would have paid for priority processing. I am nearing 40 and have lost so much time, which obviously won't go in my favour. With 15 years of top tier experience as Marketing Specialist (most of which worked in Aus) they have awarded me 5.8 years of experience. Meaning I am only worth 80 points. Clients include Commbank, Westpac, Bunnings, Sports Direct, Qantas. They want the best talent and yet are unequipped to process consultants / contractors. The whole thing has been a complete joke and cost thousands in legals and accountant costs.

@ailsaustralia - did you notice that DoHA have updated their glossary? I hadn't seen any public releases from them to this effect, but interestingly, they seem to have amended the definition of 'Work'. Up until a few months ago, it stated that certain activities did not meet the definition of work in Australia, such as doing your job remotely in your home country, volunteer activities, etc. But now all of those have been removed....

Everybody lose tbh. Employer can’t afford to pay those workers for sponsorship. Employee can’t lodge sponsorship application due to not being paid enough, and local government loses money on taxes when workers are forced to either move interstate or move back to their home country. I don’t understand why NSW thinks $70k salary is a good idea.

@@Aussie_Globetrotter this comment is completely devoid of business capacity and various other factors. Like employees, businesses also want to minimise the cost while trying to retain quality employees. If they simply cannot afford $70k per year based on employee skills and qualifications, then they can’t. It’s the government’s fault that sets up unrealistic expectations towards regional community, restricting who can apply for sponsorship.

@estellebright2579 you're saying it's fine for a business to make $$$ profits by paying minimum wages to an employee?? Of course, it's only migrants who would settle for a minimum wage to work in some remote town just so that the employer can make profits. Where's the fairness?? If at all anything, this is pure abuse of the migration system. Moreover, with the current cost of living, would you be willing to work for $60k? You're only speaking on behalf of people on one side of the table. Also, if you want loyal long-term employees, PAY THEM A DECENT WAGE

Hi Karl, Thanks for always keeping us informed. Your efforts regarding migrant issues is much appreciated. I wanted to ask if the Commonwealth has exhausted the 189 slots for the 2023/ 2024 FY. Last I checked, there were only 8300 invites out of the 30,000 slots allocated to the 189 GSM.
@estellebright2579
@estellebright2579 2 месяца назад
Remember the slots you see on migration planning level has nothing to do with invitations being issued. That planning level is for visa grant, and DOHA in theory can again issue 35k invites like back in 8 Dec 2022, overshooting planning level so more people can lodge their 189 visa. As for 2023-2024, my theory is because DOHA barely issue any, and they keep processing on hand applications, the backlog should go down steadily. Will they go back to more regular monthly (or even fortnightly back in 2016/2017 iirc) invites model remains to be seen.

Hi Karl, this comment is purely for the SC 190 visa. Though we expected the grants would die down due to quota, we are seeing some trickle of grants here and there. Not granting visas now for April 2023 lodged would mean processing times would increase by default. My question is, would there be any incentive for DHA to maintain the current 12 months of processing time, and grant a few 190s for non priority until July 2024?
@ailsaustralia
@ailsaustralia 2 месяца назад
I think there is incentive for them to keep up with processing times once grants start flowing again
@estellebright2579

DOHA has no incentive or legal requirement to make a decision on visa applications within a certain timeframe for some popular GSM visas (189/190/491). In addition, they can’t grant more visas if grant quota is used up. For people who lodged their visa at the tail end of 2022-2023 FY and also non-priority occupation, it is likely you will have to wait until July for a decision.

I think the government in general has recently aimed to reduce the immigration population in Australia as much as they can so creating new rules, and new limitations in those temporal visas (Including the 482 or 494 and even more the granting conditions) would be normal. So far I feel that housing prices and inflation have made to take tough decisions. I heard that Australia recently received 100k new immigrants in 1 month which would mean a record. As with nearly all the states, those who live in Australia usually need to be living in that state to have any chance and also be working in their occupations. if you can get the same job there then yes it is probably worth the move but remember their is sometimes a qualifying period of work required

I cant wait for the Albanese government to end. They are not helping immigrants nor students they’re making it so difficult. What a shame Albanese doesn’t sound Aussie for sure his family also migrated in Australia and now look how they treat all migrants 😢 they blame the migrants for lack of housing, which in fact they should blame themselves! It’s the Australian Government’s job to foresee this crisis if they didn’t then they’re a failure.

I have lived in Australia for 25 years now. It is not the country it used to be a quarter of a century ago. Basic every day use products, services, are a lot dearer now when compared to average income. Average property was between 4 to 5 average national annual incomes, now it is more than 10. If you plan to immigrate to Australia don't bother if you won't get an income of $AU200k per annum minimum. You buy an average home and the bank loan for it will enslave you for decades. In that situation, by not coming to Australia, you will not sacrifice family, friends and an environment you are familiar and comfortable with for the same or larger economic challenges than in your place of birth. Australia is simply too expensive these days.

Yet, I don’t see the flow of people coming to die down anytime soon, even with intense student visa crackdown and promised cut on popular temporary visas except 482. Some will still try their luck to get a student visa or even tourist visa to “work” here. Those daring will continue to try to exploit protection visa system to maintain ongoing residency under BVA. Australia is still too good to resist for many, and will remain this way for the foreseeable future.
