I have worked for 10 years as a 'web developer' in the UK and AUS professionally but the ACS only allows me to claim for 7 years 2 months because of the initial 2 years skilling period & I also moved to Sydney from the UK on my WHV for 11 months. Because I worked for 11 months in Sydney as a web developer (which is less than a year) this also did not count. They say its because any role thats less than 12 months is not contributed significantly. It makes no sense at all because it was a Web developer freelance role which was very in depth. Its rules like this which are very annoying & frustrating. This would of been the difference between 75 and 85 points for me (after 8 years professional experience the extra 10 points). More importantly, this also basically roles out freelancers who are web developers being able to claim points if a freelance project is less than 12 months at a time then your never going to get any points for professional experience. After waiting 2 years for invite, my ACS expiring and IELTS due to expire I just gave up. The less than 12 months rule should not be in place, its very unfair for freelancers who may be highly skilled at their job!

It's good to see these changes from ACS. At the same time, the ACS online support staff needs to be "educated" to have basic technical knowledge to support end-user issues. I've had an issue with my online application, which was coming from a previously completed application (which I cannot edit). The ACS Support staff has no idea about the issue, where they were too quick to come into conclusions and suggested things that would never solve it. I myself has been a web developer/software engineer for more than 20 years, therefore some of the suggestions they gave were an indication how low their technical knowledge is, to support an online system. There are different levels of knowledge required to support online systems per 1st, 2nd and 3rd line support staff, and this resulted in dragging my case for 1 month. This is after having to take 8 calls and more than 4 details emails with screenshots. It was resolved at last after raising it to a supervisor, but that was really frustrating. Still I need to raise my concerns to the ACS management, as these issues with the ACS online support staff will exist no matter how good the new systems will be.

ACS needs to understand that not every IT professional has an IT background. I have 4 absolutely marvelous developers on my team that learned from bootcamps instead of formal education and they deliver best results than any other developers I have. I'm also a ICT Project Manager with a Bachelor in Law instead of IT, but in my 3 years in the career I have over 6500 hours in Project Management and 16 projects delivered, I have CSPO, CSM, A-CSPO and yet I'm not considered an ICT professional for the Skills Assessment because I lack the formal education...

IT people going for multiple ANZSCO codes for skill assessment is an absolutely wrong generalization. A lot of IT folks exactly know which ANZSCO their job roles under and would only be putting in a single skills assessment. The new pricing for ACS is daylight robbery. As per the updated pricing now an individual would have to fork out $1450 instead of the earlier $560 for Skills Assessment General which is what majority of the folks use. This is bloody 3X of the earlier cost. ACS at this point is no longer a not-for profit organization and are a For-Profit Organization. I just don't understand how the federal government is allowing ACS to get away with this. ACS is a scummy organization who are there only to fleece migrants. I have had terrible experience with ACS with processing time taking more than 3 months which is totally absurd and they do not communicate. And if you want to communicate they won't reply to your emails. ACS should be called out for what is rather than being lauded. The only thing commendable is the promise to reduce the processing times but again that is minimum 15 days not within 15 days.

100% true. You have to pay for three assessments even if you need only one. The old system is full of bugs, and support just ignores you for weeks. I had to reach the CEO through LinkedIn to force them to resolve a technical issue with my application. I applied the third time, and I had to fight them each time, make appeals, etc. Processing time of 10-12 weeks is nonsense. They are taking advantage of the fact that they do not have competitors for skills assessment!
@AthifKhan

@@alexpetrenko5952 Yep there is no one to oversee them. They can conduct business as they like and no one would care. Hi Karl, Thanks for the video, really helpful for IT professionals🙌 I’m following couple of facebook and whatsapp groups for 186 visa applicants and havent seen any approval from nsw in the last 2 week except priority occupations or regional applications. I guess they apply a hidden cap for each month, I don’t know. Also they published new visa processing times which look like the timelines improved but its completely useless because it only considers finalised applications which are mostly prioritised applications since they open the borders. First they prioritised offshore over onshore and now they prioritised regional, and 186trt applicants in nsw effected the most from those decisions. I don’t understand why they dont process visas in hand while saying “there is no visa backlog” 186 trt applicants already living in the country at least since end of covid, they can’t be responsible from housing crisis.

I think it's a fair question to put to the ACS that if they deem ICT skills relevant for just 2 years then why do they ask for 6 years prior work experience, if you do not have an ICT major/minor, in their statement of criteria. It seems like somewhat of a confused message as, by their own definitions, at least 4 years of that experience is out of date. This confusion is only exacerbated when you see skilled jobs assessed by VETASSESS require just 3 years work experience for applicants in a similar position.

It’s great to see ACS committing to a faster turnover. 60-day turnover for initial roll out with a goal of 15-day turnover is optimistic but indeed an aspiring goal. This is MILES better than TRA’s EIGHTEEN MONTHS and other assessing bodies several months of processing times. (EA is alright I guess) I don’t think it is meaningful to introduce “competition” among assessing bodies as malicious competition is a possibility. ACS system upgrade sets a positive precedent for other assessing bodies to follow along in the coming years and I am all for it.

Hi Carl, Love your viedos, thanks for this amazing information pack. My thoughts: This is absurd, why applicants are forced to choose from 3 ANZSCO code? Should they not provide us with an option to apply for one or multiple and perhaps charge us accordingly? Also, in regards to expiry and validity- what if the applicant has not changed his field, job, or Industry? review and re-issue of applicant certificate should be done a very small cost to help them - what are your thoughts? Just highlighting the unfairness and lack of genuine support for migrants in the current skill assessment process.

The reasons to why ACS deducts 2 years from professional work experience is still unclear. This seems to reduce the overall effective work years and the inability to claim as much points, which is frustrating, given that having a minimum of 3 years for working in your own country is enough to migrate according to the skilled migration program. Does that mean we need to complete the balance years working just in order to claim that 5 points in the subsequent bracket?

@@d90j one thing, it is incredibly difficult to land on an Engineering job (except maybe IT engineers) as fresh graduates with no PR visa. Most of their jobs are highly specialised in a way that if you don’t work in that field, your work experience would mean nothing in skills assessment sense. And the other, everyone can say they are working in IT if they build small programs here and there, write a website, program an arduino board as a hobby and so on. But to get the work done where they get paid big money (80k to 110k), they really need some years of work experience. That’s just based on stories I heard.

May 2023 is a bit too late for this FY to receive a grant imo. Hope you can get yours in July/August. As for whether they will issue mass s56, I really don’t think so, since s56/s57 means they are still collecting required information from visa applicant. No one really knows how DOHA manages the visa processing flow internally, and I would not hold my breath for a near future visa grant just because I received s56 requests. Personal experience, prior to allocating my 190 for further processing, DOHA called me to confirm and sent me IMMI Assessment Commence in Dec 2023, and I didn’t receive any update (inc s56/s57 since my application is decision-ready and I am confident there’s no adverse information) until Feb 2024, so about 3 months.

Good day Karl, I've been following you on You Tube for some time and want to thank you for the updates on Australian Immigration matters. My wife and I are Italian citizens, currently living in South Africa, and I have 100% of my children living in Australia as Permanent Residents. My sons wish to bring my wife and I over to live in Australia and I would be considering the following aged parent visas: 804, 884 and 864. We would apply for these visas onshore. My question is, can my wife and I apply for Medicare whilst we on a bridging visa? Would the reciprocal agreement between Italy and Australia come into play if necessary? Thank you for keeping us up to date with Australian immigration/visa matters. Regards Luigi

Unfortunately non Australian degree holder needs to have 5+ years of experience. Even not all high paid software engineers have more than 5+ years experience. While Australian degree holders only one year?

Depends if your degree has a major in IT or not. If not then need 4 years but if yes only two years

Hello Carl The secondary teachers being invited to apply for visas, which country are they mostly from. And which curriculum do they teach? What are the chances of success of a science/Math teacher teaching in an African secondary school to get a visa ?

Hello Karl! My Australian Student Visa got refused last week. I'm from India. Am I eligible for applying again? But when I asked the University to provide new CoE, they said they won't provide. If I can apply again, how long should I wait to reapply? Is there any other visa, I can apply? I have 3 years of work experience in India. Am I eligible for migration? The Masters program, which I intend to study is not offering in India, but only in Australia. If I'm eligible for migration, is it possible for me to do that course, after migration?

It is too expensive to increase the fee upto 3X times for the skill assesment. I don't think everyone needs to apply for 3 ANZSCO codes. Reducing the processing time is a good approach but it is very unfair to increase the price like this.
@ailsaustralia

Looks like many people do apply for mulitple ANZSCO codes though

Dear Karl, Due to marriage I lost 10 points in a 190 subclass visa. It's been 4 years since I have been waiting for the grant. During the time my work experience increased more than 8 years. Can I claim an extra 5 points for work experience? Because, my wife is competent in English. That will help us to claim 5 points. If DHA considers increasing work experience and gives 5 points , I can compensate for the lost 10 points. Kindly reply

As an engineer who has hired 100+ people in Australia in my career... I want ACS to know their assessment is completely irrelevant. Additionally, their criteria ia completely detached from the reality of what hire-ability looks like. Yet another Aussie institution that extracts money from migratns and pushes the country further down it's classist track
@ailsaustralia
@ailsaustralia 3 месяца назад
Yes skill assessments have always been uneccessary to get jobs but I can tell you it is better they do the assessments rather than the immigration department who used to stuff things up all the time.
