Social scientist and bestselling author Brené Brown has spent more than a decade studying vulnerability, courage, shame and empathy. The Houston resident, who recently withstood Hurricane Harvey's path, has a new book called "Braving the Wilderness: The Quest for True Belonging and the Courage to Stand Alone." She joins "CBS This Morning" to discuss the greatest barrier to belonging, the dangers of "ideological bunkers," and why we need to hold hands with strangers.

Fighting fire with fire only worsens humanity. Fight the fire with water and extinguish the flames to open their eyes. Being fire turns us against one another, blaming and having rage etc. Berne Brown is so amazing.

That part about sorting and factions is really fascination, we did that in europe and we even had tv channels not too long ago, sorted by rrligious background.. so for example channel 1 cathlic, channel 2 protestant, channel 3 commercial or whatever. Slowly vut steady ocer a few decades we eradicated this but people also got less and less religious. But i always felt that people want to be able to interact with other groups eventhough we have conflicting ideas. So as people on this side of the sea want to identify with their nationality only, in america it became more and more sorted. I can see how this breeds loneliness. Im not saying europeans are less lonely. But its a long journey to reverse this faction based society again.

Been saying what she says for decades. Done what she talks about as a teen and in the 1990's and lost everything. Wish I had wrote her book. Lived it for decades. MM all rights reserved

Praise is superhumanizing like shame is dehumanizing. Shame is the feeling of being unworthy of connection. Praise is the feeling of being too good for connection. Both mean that people end up without connection. “I am bad” and “I am good” are two sides of the same coin. We know that guilt, meaning “I did something bad,” is the solution to shame. What, meaning “I did something good,” is the solution to praise?

Love, love, love this woman. Good Lord I could listen to her all day long. Conversely, I am increasingly disliking Gail King more and more. I don’t know who on earth she thinks she is. I thought she was rather off in her questions, to her far more intelligent guest 🇬🇧

I just hate how American broadcasters use surname to introduce someone who's actually present to be interviewed, how rude.
