A lot of people say autism people are weird, but there not. Everyone is different. And I should know because I am. I’m sorry for you, but try viewing Autism as a strength and not a weakness. I know autism has weakness but it also makes your mind work and process differently. And while it’s hard, try thinking about what you can do that’s positive. I still see autism’s weakness, but try to see it. And if it makes you feel better, talk to your parents, guardian, family, friends, school counselor, or real counselor. You can make through this.

I was diagnosed quite late in life as autistic (in my mid to late 50s). Of course I’d tried tell my family from a young age that I didn’t understand people or certain things & often didn’t feel hungry until I was feeling faint & needed food NOW! I was usually punished or a used of putting myself down or called antisocial or overly shy & needed to “get over it”. So I was relieved when my stress & depression therapist thought I was bipolar; because even though I disagreed; having known a few bipolar people; I agreed to research & talk about the possibility & it lead me to the terms neurodiverse & autism. Finally; I’m learning about my condition & half way though assessment; which I insisted on! I insisted; because people (non-medical) want to tell me that I don’t know what I’m talking about (story of my life); and want to get mad at me for missing subtle cues they refuse to explain. So this video; a gem! My family won’t watch it or admit to watching; but maybe…….they will learn something!

Yeah , know the feeling , I was 49 when diagnosed with PDD-NOS , and it is indeed the family who are the hardest to explain to , it's almost impossible , because they are not open anymore to this kind of news , they already have made up their minds long ago about you as a person and your behavior . So hearing about this newfound autism , they don't get it or even worse , don't wánt to understand it... There is a saying amongst autists , Keep your distance to family !! Because they are the ones that frustrate you the most . Ah well , c'est la vie , what can you do...

Empathy for me is very hard. I seem so cold and harsh cause someone may say "My dog just died" and I will just stand there and be like "Oh." and blankly watch them. However I do understand that pain cause I too have had dogs and have had them pass away of both old age and suddenly. So I get it, but its hard to show I get it or figure out what to say.

We don't 'grow out of autism', we learn how to mask better, we learn how to seem more like a non-autistic person. thats why many people think that autism is something that kids have. But adults can have it too, they've just learned how to hide it and maybe even deal better with it.

There is no such thing as black rights or gay right etc they all fall under human rights under the laws of God and the laws that I ( try heard to) live by and that I believe we all should although I am truly not judging because in this world we live in today people have all kinds of messed up views on things like women's rights and blah blah blah a woman is a human a gay person is a human whether or not you agree with their choice of lifestyle it is whole separate issue which still shouldn't be an issue for anyone if actually living by the don't worry about the thorn in your neighbors eye worry about the timber in your own eye that the bible refers to as basically butt out and get your own shit straight and let them take care if what they need to unless you have guidance perhaps coming from a place of love and understand so judging someones sexual preference would never be something I would be judging them for but unfortunately it's someone way more judgemental when it comes down to your last days but I do find it very depressing to see people on this Earth over the years distort what is right and what is wrong all for simple convenience what is convenient for humans things like abortion racism even though sure u can call it that but it's actually just good old fashioned hate and it's that simple someone with lots of hate in there heart yet if course we call it racism etc again I'm not one judging anyone for doing or being any of these things but God made us human we are all the same we are all equal man woman all alike we all bleed red and we all make mistakes and fall short of perfect way short most of the time lol The ten commandments should be are guidelines for the most basic of laws or rules to live by sure may not always be the most convenient but I don't think to myself what should I come up with now I know let's make up rules to fit my needs or to make me not a sinner and if course we are born sinners and will always be but guess what I don't get to write the laws and moral code of this Earth God had them way before we set foot on it and that is the problem of where we're at right now in this country and in this world everyone listens to every foolish person that has an opinion on what they think and what their beliefs are but none of them are true unless they're going directly from the Bible and what God tells us it's really not that complicated yet it's very convenient for people to make up their own rules and unfortunately when they are judged there is a place that they will spend eternity in and I pray that they will have their eyes opened because I would not wish that upon anyone it will be a horrific time for someone to spend and we're talking about eternity here people! Definitely not trying to sound like I'm some holy person that is just above everybody because the Lord knows I have my set of issues but I know which road and path I'm supposed to follow so no matter what I always start to head that direction when I start getting off track! Being autistic I hate the fact that it is called a disorder that makes it seem like we have something wrong with us I don’t like being thought of as someone who has a disorder I want to be “normal” well considered it
@kohnfutner9637
@kohnfutner9637 4 месяца назад
Autistic people are far less disorderly than those who claim to be normal. Autistic lie less, cheat less, are more friendly with those the feel comfortable with, definitely less harmful, more honest, more knowledgeable in many cases. Don't feel that a badge describes who you are or who you are to become; these labels are put on people who the "normal" less than animals like to put on people who are different. If you're a good person, and from what I think I know of autistic people, most of us usually are good people with good hearts. I feel we are the last remaining true human beings in many ways. The world I feel is full of stupid, willfully ignorant people who fight, lie, cheat, steal, greedy not-being-human beings who want to control and live an amoral life and teach others to live according to their made up rules. These are demons in flesh bodies as I can tell, my friend. Don't allow their abusive titles to make you feel anything is wrong with you.

I got tested around my final week in high school (Getting ready to graduate) I went to a hotel meeting room that my parents scheduled for me. I was asked certain questions about I I feel in certain situations and I think what I understand about that was to see how I would behave in that situation. The reason why I was finally able to test for my autism is because my school finally have me more help with future plans about getting a job right after high school during that summer. The program needed some info about my disability and I was finally able to get tested after all of this time.

Pretty much every male in my family has been diagnosed with ASD. It’s coming through generation after generation. Uncles, brothers, nephews, cousins. A few females too recently. Some are incredibly gifted in art and produce amazing pieces but for them it’s just a hobby that they enjoy as they find it relaxing. I find a lot of autistic people are very intelligent actually and are pretty much specialists in their chosen subjects which can take them places. It takes a while to get diagnosed however, and the wait is currently 2 years to see a psychologist. The education system is struggling and have to build cases now before an EP will come to the school and even then they have to choose which person to evaluate based on the amount of points. It was easier and faster years ago but it’s more common now. I think I have some traits but a diagnosis won’t change anything as I’m 50 so what’s the point.

3. You mentioned treatment. It’s not ABA, is it? If it is you will want to reconsider. They want us to act neurotypical, which we will never be. I am so grateful for the benefits provided to this world by our neuro-divergent population. I admire their differences. I enjoy learning more about the different ways of thinking. Through the eyes of my children, I am able to see the struggles that they face on a regular basis. Firstly, I really get annoyed when I hear "oh I'm sorry, you poor thing" why would you be sorry, I'm not. The other one that I find disappointing is the idea that it must some how be cured. I don't think that they need a cure. One of my favourite quotes "why try to fit in , when you were born to stand out" Dr Seuss. Our world without Einstein, Mozart, Elon Musk and the likes would not be the same...be part of the paradigm shift..be the change...🙏😇

I was diagnosed with autism in the year 2002. However I discovered 2years ago,when I found my medical records and I was taken to mental hospital. My family had hidden diagnosis from me as most of them were in denial about this condition and considered it to be taboo. My parents didn't accept me as autistic that's why I grew up with rejection. Thereafter they saw I was better in a normal school which I didn't cope very well where I was violated,judged and been bullied. I was a slow learner and I had moderate to severe learning disorder that's where my parents took action to punish me.

But over time, I get better every day and don’t think of this as a disability, think of it as a different ability. Besides, I am really good at school and people always ask me for the answers. As an autistic person, I always thought of myself as incredibly immature because of my "tantrums." It was very relieving for me to find out I wasn't just a teen with the brain of a baby. Also, my dad used to wonder why I was very academically intelligent, but when asked a simple question I would stare blankly as if he spoke in a foreign language. I'm guessing that's an autistic trait as well. For example, when I'm asked to grab a marker on a table across the room, I look over at the table, stare blankly for a bit, and then look back at the person. The marker was right in front of me, but I don't think my brain fully understood the assignment. I had a similar issue when I was learning to crawl as a baby. I kept thinking long and hard about how to make my hand move, but I couldn't lift my hand to move it. Does anyone understand this issue because I am utterly confused.

Good video! Learnt some stuff even being an autistic person. Would be nice to also explain a possible misconception that people with asd handle pain better - from what I've researched, it seems in the past it was widely believed autists had better pain tolerances, but in more recent times it's that either there's no significant difference in pain whether autistic or not; or that autists have regular pain tolerance though express it significantly differently than a neurotypical person
@cate01a
@cate01a 28 дней назад
yeah afaik the deal is that autists handle pain same or worse than a neurotypical, worse if they have heightened/more sensitive senses / react stronger to stimuli and the misconception is because if an autist experiences intense discomfort/pain like a tag on clothing rubbing on your skin, they would complain but then learn that apparently it's silly and weak to complain about such a minor feeling (from a neurotypical perspective). but for the autist the pain is real and greater than the neurotypical, but now assumes that everyone experiences the same pain as they do, so autists learn to mask pain because they believe everyone suffers as much as they do. but in reality most likely the autist is experiencing an abnormal amount of pain/discomfort due to their heightened senses. and because they believe the pain is normal, they do not attempt to find and fix the cause of the pain, and they do not verbally complain (hence perceived pain tolerance), when in reality they experience pain as bad as anyone else (but of course pain tolerance afaik is a real thing and various person to person, asd or not)

I am awaiting an appointment with a psychiatrist, and will be undergoing some assessments. I’m 40 years old, self medicated with cannabis for around 24 years. After sitting a test for a condition, and indicating high likelihood and now following up, looking back at my youth? I was always the quirky, hyper, different wee boy. My mum talked of how I always looked for shade to sit in when it was sunny. I have astigmatism in both eyes, and am colour blind also. Again, high indicators there could be a few things at play, including autism. Listening to some of the main sections in this video, kinda confirms it to me again. I am so emotional with things. Easily excited, and also easily saddened. If I see someone cry, I almost want to cry, and comfort the person. Where some people lack empathy through conditions, I believe I have an overload of emotion. I’ve always drew, painted, written lyrics, poems, songs. Play guitar, bit of piano. I am a ‘creator’. I was always seen as a smart boy. Failed all 5 highers in school. Looking back, it was the sheer pressure. I had so much going on, and feel now looking back, I was overloaded, lacked capacity to deal with everything at once, and pretty much had a meltdown. I now recognise moments in my life, where I now realise I have had a ‘breakdown’, and I believe this is why But, to end on a much lighter and higher note… I think to myself… ‘F*ck me, I’ve managed to do a lot without realising, gotten far and succeeded here and there’s I am not ashamed, saddened, or down. I’m just tuned differently is all ❤️

So I have autism and socializing is the biggest challenge. I'm 28 years old never had any friends, no girlfriend, never dated, never had sex. I can talk to people clearly but I can't really initiate or keep a conversation going. I can't spontaneously think of interesting things to say. I knew people that could barely get a word out and and always had their head down. I'm not that bad off. Is this is because of autism? What if I'm just an introvert and have social anxiety. There's people that claim to have social anxiety that have friends and girlfriend/boyfriend. Tell me how that works.

1:29 This misconception has always angered me. Vaccines causing Autism has to be one of the biggest Karen lies out there and also highly disrespectful to those suffering from Autism. And as someone with Asperger Syndrome (a mild form of autism), I can confirm on behalf of others like me that Autism is always something you are BORN with! If you are not, then you literally don't have to worry about it for the rest of your life. I feel like the misconception comes from the fact that autism is very difficult, if not impossible to diagnose until later in life. And since the diagnosis is made after the child is vaccinated, it allows these anti-vax jerks to make up the whole "Autism caused by vaccine" BS. Heck, I wasn't officially diagnosed until I was around 11, although my family had their suspicions for years.
@GarnachoEmpire712

Yeah as an autistic person it also imply that autism is some curse that needs to be eradicated but even if vaccines did cause autism I would still take vaccines because autism is not worse than life threatening diseases.

The lie about vaccines happened because a researcher falsified his research and said there was a link. He was proven wrong and admitted to lying but it started a huge lie.

I have autism, diagnosed at 41 I'm now 42..I'm fine infact I'm awesome! I just wish that I'd had a diagnosis at an earlier age. The support and understanding would have been welcomed by me! If someone said they could take my autism away I'd tell em to fuck off! Because I love being autistic. I love being me.I love being able to entertain myself without the need of others. It makes me fearless assertive and magical and I ain't caught up in societies restraints. It's only become a problem now because I had too many life changes all at once. (my parents died) This is my first time expiriencing complete autistic burnout and that's cause I had no idea I was autistic! Now I know I can prevent that from ever happening by meeting my own individual needs. Knowledge is power and autism is like having a super power to me. I loved school.. College and university. But didn't have a spacific group of friends, I just engaged with everyone on an acquaintance level. I've lived on my own since I was 16. I am fiercely independent and extremely logical in my thinking. I am extremely honest and empathetic, I feel everything! The way I experience joy, love, music, movies, art, nature, pleasure and excitement is next level 💯! I can even feel other peoples energy. I have an 18 year old son, who is doing really well in life because of my autism, he was totally my special interest, I am a brilliant mum! He doesn't have autism btw. I've been a professional dancer, a youth work manager, primary school teacher and a model in this lifetime so far. I'm currently taking a break from working due to burnout. So I became a pet sitter. I much prefer animals and kids to people my own age, I don't do friendship any more cause I can't deal with all the rules but I have 2 sisters so I use them for friendship. Right now I'm travelling... Alone! I currently have a boyfriend, he's a decade younger than me but he looks older than me! ... Its a long distance relationship which really suits me. I think he's on the spectrum somewhere too. He's an artist and loves skateboarding! I can't drive but I ride an electric scooter! Soooooo fun! And I'm shit at maths! I hold my cutlery weird so I've been told, I'm Sensitive to clothes light and sound and I don't like my face being touched. I have daily routine and rituals, I also have undeniable spiritual gifts.... My self love is sometimes mistaken for arrogance but my autism allows me to not care about what others think of me. Which I am greatful for. Yes I've been sad, yes I've been bullied, yes I've been taken advantage of. But absolutely everyone in life has experienced bad things, autistic or not. Everyone has all sorts challenges in life. I live in my own little world...My advice would be to create the world that you want to live in. Design your life according to your own spacific needs. And be gentle with your self X
