Back in the 90s we did this all the time - we called it "doing the funky chicken". I had a Concept 30 IC powered heli throw the radio battery out on impact leaving the throttle on almost full bore. It took quite a few minutes for the clutch to finally burn out and allow me to go pull the fuel line off.
That's what we in the RC heli hobby call the "chicken dance". Only way to stop it quickly with a nitro heli is throw a coat or jacket on it, then run up to it and yank the fuel line off.
hahaha nothing scarier than a big 600 or 700 Nitro Heli smashing itself to pieces on the floor while the engine is SCREAMING and you're desperately trying to get near the fucker to cut the engine without losing a hand!! haha!
Basically the HW autopilot removes all of the fear and apprehension of your first rc heli crash, by crashing FOR YOU. 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂. Jk awesome video as usual, mate!
I love 3D helicopters, it's my favorite RC models to fly, especially the 6CH ones.. I don't like the GPS helicopters, I'd rather stick to the original way to learn.. Which is... Try take off, crash before helicopter lifts off the ground. (Chicken Dance).. Then repair the helicopter!! Try fly and crash again! Cry for a while, and fix it again! Then take off and crash... Laugh about it, and cry... Fix it again!! Fly it and enjoy, then crash and fix it as it's a routine already.. Honestly half the fun is to repair it and maintain it, the other half of the fun is to fly it! It toom me 2 years to learn to hover it in all orientations, and another 1 year to fly it 3D style properly without crashing it.. Now I don't crash much at all, can't even remember when I last crashed, lol.. Anyway it was fun to watch the helicopter being destroyed like that, laughing like crazy here really.. Shouldn't have let the newbie fly such a beautiful machine, or at least you should have explained better how to operate it.. LOL SWEET Keep well and be safe bro!
Oops 😬, that’s why when it comes to anything that flies you HAVE TO read instructions from “ front to back & back to front & inside out “ if you don’t, well you found out what happens... Hilarious vid 🤣😂😂🤣😂😅 👍👍👍👍👍✌🏻
As someone who's been in the drone bizz for 5+ years (and has worked for DJI), I'm genuinely curious what you mean with 'sometimes disagrees with what you want to do'. Could you elaborate?
RC Helicopters are a lot easier to fly with auto gyros these days. I built a Morley Bell 47G with 6.5cc glow engine (designed by Jim Morley) in the late 1970’s early 1980’s and without gyros it was like balancing a ping pong ball on top of another ping pong ball, in a breeze. Took me a couple of months to grasp the hover.
Kev despite some teething problems you outlined, that GPS Mode is a bloody Godsend! I can't tell you how useful that function will be for someone like myself who didn't learn to fly Heli's 'til his late 30's and basically struggles with losing orientation of Heli, then crashing in a panic trying to recover!! That's a miracle system for any newbie or struggler like myself! I've crashed £1200 Heli's losing orientation so i'll defo be buying this Heli !! Thanks so much kev! Keep up the madness bro! I'm in the same boat as you, except I've got 20 years on you - I'm almost 60. I own a Blade 230s and an Align T-Rex 470, and I never fly them anymore. I've only hovered the 470 a few times. I've got dozens of hours with the Heli-X simulator, so I've attempted to fly the 230s, but when it's in a banked turn, I can't tell whether it's going left or right. I've hit throttle hold and dumped it into the grass a couple of times, with little to no damage, but now I'm gun shy. If someone offered to buy me out, I'm not sure I'd decline. It's really discouraging, because I love these machines. I really enjoyed building the 470, but, if I crashed it, I'd give up for sure.
@@ExSkyCyclePilot My goodness Michael i can so relate to your feelings mate! I'm the same, i got to the point where i'm too afraid to fly my expensive Heli's any more because i'm so afraid of crashing them and then having to spend £hundreds on parts etc! I really struggle with seeing what direction my Heli is pointed when i'm flying it farther away, and just the same as you, when i'm banking to left or right, i often lose orinentation and panic and dump it! You mention you have 20 years on me, well i really feel for you because i believe us late starters, who come into Heli flying as older adults, are totally disadvantaged because when you learn new skills with a very young/childs brain, the Neurons are still growing and making new connections, so you learn much fatser and your brain mouldfs itself or has much more plasticity than when you're an adult, thus making the newly learned skill "second nature" if you will. Ofcourse us older adults can still learn new skills very well, but it's much much harder in my personal opinion. The only tip i can give you is much larger Heli's like the 600, 700 and 800 size Heli's are actually easier to fly because their larger size is naturally more stable and less "Twitchy" than smaller Heli's, but the problem with even this is when you crash, it's much much more expensive to fix!! We can't win mate! lol.
13:04 this is known as "chicken dance" and it usually happens to nitro/gas rc helicopters. If you have a rough landing and the battery gets unplugged the throttle servo will keep the engine running until it destroys itself or runs out of fuel I had this happen to me on my 2s xk k110 with cc3d flight controller refused to disarm and it destroyed itself in battery fire
I had the same heli to test. When I got it the blades were poorly balanced which caused the gyros to crap out. That's what it looked like in the video, mine was going the same way but I killed the throttle before it did any damage. After balancing the blades all was well.
flips into gps "flies like a drone" he hasnt flown an acro drone it seems. Give it a try for me kev, love to see your power loops and barrell rolls! shred the gnar boys, carry on!
I have Two GPS Quadcopter's...Best use is for Close proximity Artiral Photo/Videography. I hope it wasn't too Expensive to fix it. COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE KEV...IT COULD HAVE BEEN MINE😂
