Quartz I find to be especially challenging for automation routines because it's both an ingredient and a smeltable material. One of only two in the game with Organic being the only other exception (although 99% of the time, you're turning most of your organic into carbon). You don't want to smelt ALL of your quartz and you also don't want ALL of your quartz to be un-smelted.
I hear ya, at this point im just smelting it all but was thinking of adding a dedicated auto arm (with quartz filter) tied to a canister but only turns on when empty.
You should use the large folding platform as a door to an underground base where you use the large sensor arch to activate it to open when you walk or drive through it
Iv been watching your videos to help with my set up.. my question is why use the button reaptor? If I have unlimited RTG'S why not just always have them powered on? Why complicate things with the buttons?
Off camera... everything else just lying there in a heap. I just dug a hole and threw all the excess in there. I accidentally grow a monster plant on the base ground and it's not going away. Make rooms and have the wires on the walls?
I don't get why the devs don't give us the update when it is finished like this. I mean I don't see any big problems with the update, but we don't have the update yet.
My goal in life is to be as happy as Z playing Astroneer, or any game at that matter! Thanks for the awesome videos Z! "We did the things, we did the stuff!"
Flattening with the alignment mod, although not superflat, does provide a slight curvature that matches the planet. It would be less wonky than your weird ever more drastic cliff-edged bases, and yet still mostly flat-ish.
I really hope this game gets some more updates to REALLY flesh out the weaknesses. Cause seriously, there is almost NO logic for sorting systems of any kind, the way items will fill an entire platform is actually impossible to work around unless you just take the canister off before setting it to output, and canisters can't be filtered so if one runs out of a resource you just have to manually refill it every time. Sorting systems are a nightmare once your scale is bigger than the start of the game. Making an unloading station is basically just a parade of compensation for the game's shortcomings. Then there's the weaknesses of power. There's no options for power. You spam wind and solar, and then you double spam 100 batteries, so there's basically never consistent power cause wind is random and isn't even present really on some planets, and solar is technically half the time but not really cause I swear it's ALWAYS night time. There is no way day and night are equal lengths. This game is a lot of fun and has tons of potential, but the important mechanics all feel like they're in early access. Which is embarrassing when you compare to an actual early access game like Dyson Sphere Program.
Great video!. You should do a soil automatisation (you get the liquified soil, transform it into organic and smelt it). Then it will be so much easier for you doing steel or dinamite.
What you could do is if you get a storage sensor, when the smelter is done because it will never complete when it can pick up something else, then you can make it when the smelter is finished you can pick up the unsmeltable resources
know this video is over a year old so maybe its refined better now, but why have the one auto arm feed back to the medium silo on the right from the medium silo on the left when it could just be aimed back towards the resource canisters? seems that would be way easier, esp if its already off until its time to unload unsmelted materials
Don't you wish there were filtered auto arms like you pit an item on a spot on the auto arm then it registers it as white listed or blacklisted and it will only grab certain items
Nice setup for sorting after rover gathering. However what about doing the sorting/smelting right on the rover as you're driving around gathering? You would have to prime empty resource canisters and if you wanted quartz and organic, you'd have to turn off the smelters but when you got back to base, most if not all smelting should be done and you've already sorted the haul! That way you combine sorting and smelting with travel/search/drilling time (I recommend two RTGs fer powa).
Does every platform have a power in and power out or doesn't it matter. I don't think any of my connection cables have the yellow arrows showing the direction of flow like yours does.
I hope that this streak of Astroneer will continue because I had a break from watching Astroneer and now came back and I’m super desperate for some Astroneer content and now I’m planning to buy the game.
Wiktor Podwojski you should totally buy it because of its time value. It’s a cheap game with lots of hours for you to play as well as being a pretty and exciting game
You can actually put some canisters on rover for materials like compound or etc. and the rest can picked up by medium tall storages so that only those would be picked by automated system
Is it possible the sensor gate is getting triggered by each row of stuff on the rover, like triggers on when drill and paver moves through, then off when driver, then on when storage, and off last time cause of the soil canister and the zebra ball?
A trick I've found for dealing with those disembodied nuggets of material, since it seems to be a bug with the way the storage canisters work, is to bring over a canister with the correct material and cycle its output.
You could try to make a mobile scrap picker-upperer and shredder. I made one that picks up little items but you have to be reasonably precise while driving around to get it to pick up items. Maybe you could make one?
the sensors didn't go 2 times you left the system on and when you entered it went out. And when you reversed through the sensor, it read you twice once when you went outside and once when you entered.
@@aslibsra Yes if you put the zebra ball on the back of the rover from and you sit in the front like z did if you then drive forward through the sensor it will go off twice and backwards only 1 time.
you can put the new power switch to that system and connect your button repeater to it, so when you pass the entrance it will turn on smelters and auto arms, and when you leave they'll turn off
Second comment, and why don't you just send it all through the storage system, and then the smeltable stuff will then be sorted alle the way through and sent to the smelters, and througt the storage system agen. :D
