These have a surprisingly nice look, and they're so light. I would take these out and play with them at work constantly. No one ever asked about them, and they just sat there. Unfortunate. They're really cool.

I love this kind of innovation, the purist might look down upon these lenses but having matching autofocus cinema lenses, which are lightweight, not to expensive (i suppose) and could have a killer feature like auto ND is mega for smaller content creators. Thnx for your objective review ProAV, this might get big very soon. I'll be keeping an eye on these :)

If they can make a decent 1.8-2.0x anamorphic scope with a built in front variable diopter that works well on all three of these lenses, they could revolutionize things. Of course, it would have to be quite massive. Personally, I feel like focusing on auto-focus makes makes the whole system less desirable (because of the manual focus trade-offs), but it is definitely the smart business move for capturing that consumer market. Colour-matching at this price-point is already a really big deal.
@carlyates2487
@carlyates2487 Год назад
But if they develop a great attachment system for the front they might eventually bring that system to their VDSLR range for the people who prefer true manual focus

I don’t see how 2.0 on a 16x9 sensor would make any sense. I’m always confused on the mathematics on it - but anything wider than 239/240 aspect is just way too wide So 1.8 even on 16x9 would be too much. IMO.
@pastamatt
@pastamatt Год назад
@@TheSteveKinney It's less about the final aspect ratio and more about the anamorphic look. A proper anamorphic look is 2X. If you just care about a 2.39:1 aspect ratio, feel free to crop a little off the top and bottom of your spherical lenses' 16:9 frame.

I think if you don’t care about the look, slight gimbal adjustment and you use autofocus all the time, just buy the Samyang AF 24 and 75 f1.8, and get the Sony Fe 35 f1.8… none of those lenses has any focus breathing and you can combine those three for around $13-1400 compare to these 3 V-AF lenses for around $16-1900 (depends on where you buy them.

I've got the 75mm just now. The design is awesome, good weight factor and the lense feels sturdy. In hindsight on a FX30 it might have been better to go one size smaller. And I do wish - if that is even possible - the lenses would have OSS. But you can't have it all. Overall quality though seems to be great!

an accessory I would like to see for the lenses is. A wireless follow-focus that uses the lenses internal focusing motor (imagine a dji mavic style controller. but with 2 dials on it. one for focus, one for aperture. that connects to the lens. maybe bundle it witth an Electronic-ND........so 3 dails. 1 for focus, 1 for apature, 1 for nd. all while keeping the camera small, light and cheap)

Cine lenses with tons of focus breathing... Not surprisingly no mention of that in the video, since it wouldn't make a good sales pitch. It's very probable that Sony's breathing compensation will not apply for 3rd party lenses, hence the question - what is exactly the benefit of those lenses for cinema? What is the advantage over Sony's own lenses, which offer great image quality and have zero focus breathing, which is so important for filmmaking?
@izzieb

The focus breathing is terrible. I think they'd be better described as lens for video work - it seems they're basically designed for easy use on a gimbal.
@nick.dakota

Same as other photography lenses with af like the 24 f.18 and sadly the 135 f1.8... Trey simply don't work on the FX6. It's almost as if Samyang has an embargo out to not test it on the FX6 because no one online speaks about the AF on a bigger body and only tests on mirrorless (And I know it's more likely to use it on a smaller budget on a a7 etc but the one mount should also work fine on the FX6)

I was excited about the idea of these, being able to actually switch seamlessly between autofocus and manual control with FIZ motors. Are you gonna do a comparison of the 35mm Samyang VS the 35mm 1.8 Sony? I'm in the market for one of these. I'm considering Samyang it's slightly cheaper, but I do want the Quality of the Picture to be equal or better. For example color, Sharpness, Ghosting, Flares, distortion? I like the Samyang cause of the possibility of having an anamorphic Adapter for the future within the same lens.
@carlyates2487

@hbp_
@hbp_ Год назад
Don't Zeiss Batis lenses match between focal lengths? That's another similar option. While not exactly marketed as a cinema lens set, one could argue that Samyang's designs at least used to be the same as their photo lenses but with a new coating. If that's still something very important then you can pay a little extra and Zeiss will engrave the text "cine" on the lens bodies.
