Thanks for the review. Awesome indeed. Needed this desperately to make my decision. Ordered my Samyang and will arrive soon. Will report my findings. You're the best, man...

I have the tamron and have been using it since November 2021. My main field of work is music photography and this lens is absolutely deadly. I initailly used on my A7RIV but now have it permanently on my A7RV and the combo is killer. it gives me 35 to 150mm full frame and in crop mode it reaches 225mm.
@photogenic2010
@photogenic2010 5 месяцев назад
do you use much sharpness when you crop it to apsc?
@TrevorMcGrathPhotography
@TrevorMcGrathPhotography 5 месяцев назад
Hi, Thanks for the questtion. I have the sharpness set to 1 in lightroom and never increase it. The most important part of having a photo sharp is to NAIL focus. If you require to add sharpness in post, you are not nail the focus at the moment of capture. Having eye auto focus with face detection and the correct shutter speed makes this possible
@JeffreyMcPheeters
@JeffreyMcPheeters Месяц назад
For my usage I think the only benefit to crop mode vs just cropping in post and having the full picture to determine best crop, is when doing video work, where HD or 4k samples would definitely differ from cropping in post. For still I find less purpose as I’m doing the crop “blind” somewhat to what is going on around the subject and could probably make better decision when I’m reviewing on a large screen. I do find it handy to have the ability on the A7RV when I want to use an APSC lens.

The price diffetence comes due to: - slightly better build quality and better QC of the Tamron - more customization with Tamron - 6 year warranty on Tamron vs 1 year on Samyang. As a hobbyist, I am aiming for the Samyang. 😊
@Tony.Visual
@Tony.Visual 9 месяцев назад
Leaning on Samyang aswell. As long as i can switch the ring to an aperture ring I don’t mind the customisation. I don’t care about warranty either or build quality. Colder tones, sharp, should be also a good autofocus, cheaper. Just whats QC?

I have the Tamron and considered the Samyang as I've used other Samyang lenses with good results. I went with a used Tamron as it had more of a track record and I have the zoom trilogy of Tamron lenses and thought I'd try to stay with a consistent look. I've found the 35-150mm 2.0 - 2.8 to be really great for shooting corporate events and live theater. I'm looking forward to some local sports shooting with it as well.

Very useful; I was looking for a general purpose lens for my FS7 and was thinking about a used G-Master but the Samyang is very tempting, especially at the price.

I’m waiting for a Sigma version of this (or 28-70 f2.0). The Tamron has repeated reports of de-centering after a while, and the Samyang has horrible lens flare anytime you’re near a sunset (the Tamron probably does too, but I haven’t tried it). That said, you have to love the image quality . . . which is why I’ll wait for something similar from Sigma. Sticking with my primes for now.

If you're okay with the 35-150 weighing 5kg then the Sigma variant will be worth the wait I guess.

Hi Carl, what about manual focus? This is such an important feature for video and it’s not mentioned here. Not just the throw but how about linear MF response for repeatable focus. Thanks.

Thanks for this. I have the Tamron and hoped I could use it to track fast moving subjects in athletic photography (with the subject running directly toward me). Regretfully, the Tamron couldn't maintain focus nearly as well as the Sony 70-200 2.8 mkII. I have to wonder if the Samyang performs better than the Tamron in this area.

Tamron just announced the 35-150 f/2-2.8 for Nikon Z mount, curiously (literally in the last day or two). It's a lens that certainly appeals to me, though I'd want to test one out before I'd consider picking one up 🤔 Would be a great combined video/travel lens, maybe in combination with a wider lens like a 16-35mm of some description.

I’ve heard these lenses are actually 38/39mm-150 so not a real 35mm. Any chance you can test it? Today I do most shooting on an 24-105, so this lens is really tempting. However, I find that quite a few photos are taken at 35mm and below. The if the real focal length is closer to 40mm it might be a dealbreaker…

Thank you for the direct comparison. When comparing the pictures shown here, I noticed that the Samyang seems to have a slightly longer focal length than the Tamron in both the initial and final zoom ranges. At 150 mm it looks like it is about 5 to 10 mm longer. Or is that deceptive?

I have the Tamron and even with the A1 the lens cannot keep the subject in focus if zoom racking while tracking a subject. Very frustrating for someone shooting a lot moving subjects. Is the Samyang any better a t this? I am surprised no reviewers point out this massive flaw in the AF of this lens.

I know I’m abit late here but is there something about the Samyang I don’t know about? It’s colour is better, it’s sharper, it’s faster focusing and it’s £500 cheaper. I’ve seen other reviewers say the build quality is pretty much the same so just wondering as the Samyang seems like the clear winner here?
@nicolab.9245

Please, can you check if Samyang lens can track focus when zooming while continuous AF? With Tamron lens If you rack zoom at any speed while tracking a subject the subject will be out of focus and at times it will take the lens an eternity to get back on it This does not happen with Sony 70-200 GM Courious to see if Samyang version is better in this regard No online video review addressed this very obvious issue, Zoom in, take focus point with real time tracking and follow the subject while zooming for better framing With Tamron it's a no go, needed to decide first zoom range and than pick the focus without manual zooming

I've been intrigued by the Tamron 35-150 since it came out, but I have an L mount camera. Samyang is rumored to be bringing their 35-150 to L mount soon. I'm excited, but I do not have quite the same confidence in Samyang's quality and consistency that I would have with Tamron. Only time will tell how well the Samyang works on L mount and if I decide to pull the trigger.

Just bought the Samyang for S5ii and super unimpressed. It's huge and incredibly heavy which would be fine if the image quality was good but in my tests it's super soft and loses loads of detail compared to all of my other lenses. Colour is also much less punchy. I will be returning it.

How is the af on an fx6? Samyang primes work fine on mirrorless but the 135 and 24 don’t work on the fx6. Still nobody is testing Samyang on the fx6

I bought and returned two copies of the Samyang because it did not work with the lens station. So you can’t update or configure the lens. I have several Samyang primes and they’re great value. But this zoom isn’t! Just ordered the Tamron instead. It’s more expensive, but hoping it’s a better deal in terms of design and quality.

That’s even more frustrating to hear in some ways. I tried two copies of the lens and they both didn’t work. I bought a Tamron, used but in perfect condition, for only slightly more money. Must say the build quality is significantly better. The reviewers don’t seem to emphasise that.

The problem is, both these lenses make the photographer one-handed. You have to dedicate one hand to carry your camera by the lens. Unless you want to sacrifice your camera's mount and let the lens hang off of the camera on a strap. The alternative is to carry a small camera bag that can be worn on your shoulder, perhaps cross-shoulder, and keep the camera + lens in it, taking it out when you shoot, then putting it back after you're done. Quite annoying. And then if you want to shoot with the camera on a tripod, you will have the entire weight hanging from the camera, which is likely to warp the camera mount. Why can't these lens makers include with their lens a tripod collar with an Arca-Swiss compatible foot? Myopic design. I will not buy either, although the focal length range and the fast f/2-2.8 aperture are really intriguing.
