Autoimmunity in ME/CFS, Long Covid: No Big Deal?

Functional autoantibodies seem to play an important secondary role in illnesses like Myalgic Encephalomyelitis / Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS), POTS and Long Covid, with one paper showing that symptom severity in ME/CFS correlates with presence and quantity of autoantibodies. However, there is some research to indicate - as well as anecdotal evidence from patients - that these functional antibodies can exist in the same amount in both healthy people and those with these kinds of illnesses, leading to the perception that perhaps these autoantibodies don’t play such an active role after all. In this video, I argue against this by pointing out a) within ME/CFS and related illnesses, the issue is whether or not the AABS bind to - or away from - the cell receptor, b) treatments to remove AABS tend to lead to clinical improvement and c) we know that presence of AABS correlates with symptom severity.

Very interesting Patrick.. Autoimmunity runs in my family. I think it plays an important role in ME/CFS/POTS .. I'm just getting over a bad sinus infection myself ..left me in bed for 2 weeks .Just getting back to baseline ..Hope you're feeling better !

Thank you Lisa. Sorry you’ve had that infection and hope you are feeling better. I had a two week one a few weeks back as well

The Klaus Wirth statement is very intelligent and shows that we know far too less about how the AAbs binds and where it is highly pathological. A lot of guessing involved.
