A key secondary component of chronic fatigue syndrome / myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME/CFS) involves excessive functional autoantibodies. These autoantibodies are capable of blocking core bodily processes, and contributing to exercise intolerance, post-exertional malaise and crashes. Treatments like immunoadsorption or the up-coming Berlin Cures can likely treat this autoimmune problem, but we should also ask whether or not it is possible for these autoantibodies to reduce on their own, thereby contributing to healing and improved functionality. In this video, I discuss whether this might be possible, talking about the four month life cycle of autoantibodies as well as a study that showed the Nurosym device / vagus nerve stimulator successfully reduced autoantibodies in POTS patients over two months.
