I really appreciate Jason's approach, which allows approvers to approve without having to log into Airtable. That's key for a lot of situations where you don't want or need to submitter or approver to have an account, and you just want to track the requests in the background. One downfall of the system as presented here is that unless you have the People table linked to some kind of active directory that is kept up to date (or you've got someone keeping things current in Airtable), you won't be able to rely on the Manager lookup to send the request to the right person, and instead you'll have to have people enter their manager's name and address in the form. Once you do that, then submitters could potentially submit and approve their own requests.
That is correct! You could use Airtable sync and have that directory be managed actively by HR and pull it into the base but you're right that it needs to be up to date for the workflow to work!
Aron, this was a VERY informative session. Many thanks! Please do a follow up session on the balance of what you and Jason were going to cover but couldn't. I am an ex-Accountant (very ex) who now works in IT, so I could relate. The Admin Panel at the end was something that I had not thought of, so I will be using that in the future. I always struggle to understand why your sessions don't have many thousands of views by the time I get to see them. I have learned so much from you and really enjoy your presentation methods - it's never boring. Please keep up the awesome work!
Hey Shaun, appreciate the kind words! Definitely thinking about a follow up with Jason :D The good news is that because I don't get thousands of views, you now know secrets that others don't :) Have a great day Shaun!
Great video, very helpful! However following along left me with one issue, the approved or reject cell does not update the approve, declined, pending cell. Is there a trick to have this change once the manager has sent the form?
