In this video I'm going to walk you through the steps I use to find good force feedback in Automobilista 2.
You can find the rfuktor custom FFB file with installation instructions here: forum.reizastudios.com/thread...
PROFILE:
PER REIZA: "... Change to "Custom" if you have modified ffb_custom_settings.txt file in MyDocs/Automobilista 2 folder - if you haven´t changed that file, "Custom" will be no different from "Default" profile."
WHAT TO DO: Keep the default profile and try to get the force feedback set to your liking. If there is a lack of feel, or the feedback feels too crunchy or abrupt, try Googling "Automobilista 2 custom ffb profile" and downloading a custom file. Rename it "ffb_custom_settings.txt" and copy into the "Documents\Automobilista 2" folder before loading the game. Then set the type to "Custom".
GAIN:
PER REIZA: "Defines maximum force output. The default 100% setting has some clipping built-in, specially on high downforce vehicles as in these the steering column torque can easily exceed 30Nm when car is under heavy load in a fast corners, while front tires are fully gripping and self-aligning torque is very high
For Direct Drive wheels, it is recommended to set gain around 40-50%. This has thus far been tested mostly on a Fanatec DD1 base. Stronger wheels may use even lower Gain values."
WHAT TO DO: Set the gain to a low or mid level to start. Depending on your wheel type, you'll need to adjust this value up or down to your liking. The gain should likely be high enough to feel the various feedback indicators, but not so strong that you'll need to work hard to turn the wheel. This is very much a dynamic setting, and you'll likely need to fine tune this several more times.
LOW FORCE BOOST:
PER REIZA: "Similarly to AMS1, LFB serves as an "amplifier" of FFB when tyres are relatively unloaded, useful specially for wheels with weaker motors like in Logitech G2X wheels, to enhance these lower range forces without necessarily adding clipping to the top range.
If you feel the FFB is lacking or "limp" when travelling at slower speeds or during straights, you may want to experiment with some level of LFB - may be set as high as 80% in Logitech G2X or other similar wheels, while stronger Fanatec / Thrustmaster wheels should be set somewhere in the range of 30-60%.
Even if you have a Direct Drive wheel and are unsatisfied with the force output while tyres are unloaded, you may use Low Force Boost @ 10-30% without concern for clipping high forces as LFB only applies at the lower end of the force range and will never saturate / introduce clipping on it's own."
WHAT TO DO: Like all settings, this is very much a personal preference, but it should likely be enough to where you can feel a bit of feedback at all times on the track. Note that too much will saturate the feedback signal and make turning the wheel more difficult in general.
FX:
PER REIZA: "Adds a little vibration from the engine as it goes through the RPM range (very faint, and linked to the engine´s actual angular velocity); it also adds a "Tyre Scrub" effect, which is a function of tyre vibration that would naturally transfer as vibration onto wheel rim, driven by actual physics signal."
WHAT TO DO: In concert with gain, adjust this slider to feel more of the tires as they scrub across the road surface during cornering. This is particularly noticable during understeer and oversteer moments. Like Low Force Boost is to straight sections, the FX slider can add information to your wheel during cornering. Also like LFB, it's a personal preference but should likely be set to give you sufficient information about the tires, but not so much that it saturates the signal.
DAMPING:
PER REIZA: "Controller Damping in the UI relates to gamepad & other digital controllers only - it´s NOT a FFB setting." ; "We recommend using damping in game vs on wheel setting. Damping in game scales with vehicle, so roughly same level for all cars. On wheel / driver damping doesn't scale with wheel gain, so if you have gain too low, damping will overwhelm FFB signal."
WHAT TO DO: Use damping to add resistance to wheel rotation. As per this video, I've had no luck with using the in game damping slider, but in other sims I like a bit of damping. Direct Drive wheel users will likely have better feel from this versus gear or belt driven wheel users. The damping should help smooth your wheel movement and feel a bit like your daily road car, but not be strong enough to make you work hard at turning the wheel.
MENU SPRING:
PER REIZA: "controls wheel centering spring only while navigating the UI. For DD wheels it should be set to 0 or some other very low value."

As noted below by Panos:--- Please note that "Silver Raw rFuktor" files use the damping slider for "power steering", so the higher you put it, the less force will be generated in cornering. This feature makes the FFB center vs cornering force adjustable both by LFB and by gain/PS adjustments. LFB does it one way, gain/PS another, so there are many combinations to find a sweet spot for both car & wheel base. And you can also see the widget in the HUD showing the FFB forces across the spectrum, and whether or not you are reaching the clipping levels.

Mate thanks for your videos which i really enjoy! Just saw this and wanted to note that the sliders work differently on Default and the Custom file by design. This comment refers only to Custom files, not the Default. For the Rfuktor specifically Damping controls the powersteering, it has nothing to do with the damping itself (damping is preset on the file itself). The LFB again controls the speed, strength and the center of the wheel. I would suggest to you a Gain between 30-40 (maybe more), LFB 5-15, FX up to 32 (higher values should normally produce too much road noise) and Damping between 5-15 (different cars might need different settings that is why the ranges). Regarding the Damping, you might decide to increase Gain more and with inreasing Damping (powersteering) you might achieve a nicer feeling (stronger center, etc.), not sure how it is in the accuforce. Also i would advise using in accuforce software the less or even 0 filtering as possible. These custom files have been desgined based on Direct Drives (SCpro & DD1) with minimal or no filtering at all, so you should be ok. Cheers!

Mike that is some great timing! I went through this process with my AccuForce Pro V2 DD girl .. err .. wheel last night, and ended up with settings very similar to yours. My process was almost the same as yours. Also not using a SimCommander4 profile, just the standard wheel settings in the software. Thanks for the vindication Mike, and the great video :-) I cannot comment on the damping, because to me it just adds unnecessary weight to the wheel (like driving a street car with very low tire pressure or parking a car with very wide tires). I too like the steering to be fairly light, as power steering is a thing that happened millennia ago and will forever be a thing ;-)
@jopereirapt

BTW, "Damping" in rfuctor custom FFB is power steering wheel force (the more, the lighter the wheel). Damping itself is built into custom FFB.

@@SimRacing604 so you nailed. the latest custom file makes Dampening act as power steering. The higher the slider, the less torque needed to turn the wheel. The lower the slider, the more torque needed to turn the wheel. I tweaked some of your settings, and it felt really good. When using SC4 to launch the game, it felt a bit more detailed for me. The custom file is really nice, for sure!

Thanks Mike. I really want to like AMS2, but Raceroom Racing Experience brings my 10 year-old Fanatec CSR wheel alive like no other. Ironically, the original FFB that AMS2 launched with in pre-release was so informative, but the game has never recaptured that intuitive feel on my old system, not even with the custom files. Also, my Buttkicker cannot detect the wheel slip like AC or ACC does. I enjoy RF2 but, for me, R3E is the pinnacle .. it is so alive that I simply do not need to update my system. Unfortunately, AMS2 is not getting much playtime at the moment.

Hello Mike, as usual, very helpful and instructive vid. Maybe, as some help for non-DD wheelbase owners : I use a TM TS-XW ( 6,3Nm peak torque ) and noticed, that your Accuforce should have around twice as much. So for starters, I just doubled your recommended settings, except for the Menu Spring strength, which I set at 15 after checking the movement. It was quite a nice ballpark-shot for most types of cars. So finally I ended up with Gain 60, LFB and FX at 50. Damping still at 0 in the default profile. Another thing I want to mention is, that each var ( or class ) has an individual FFB setting in it's setup ( like in Raceroom and others ) In the controller settings, you can assign to keys, I use pge up/pge down, to adjust the individual FFB during driving. Fine work... So i.e. for Formula V10 cars I ended up with a 110% setting. For some of the older racecars without powersteering and wide slicks, you might need only 95%...hope this helped people. These sims are so full of detail functions that some useful ones might get overlooked. Best regards Stefan - ahh needless to say that you got a like and way earlier already a sub.
@youngganghis5236
@youngganghis5236 2 года назад
Hey, I got a TS-PC which is essentially the same wheelbase as yours, just with different compatibilities. I actually have a few questions about it overall since you seem pretty informed. First, which Rim do u use? Because from open wheel to a large 32mm rim do you just increase the gain to compensate for the larger diameter? Second, how do u find the best settings for each sim with this wheelbase?
@stefan-georgfuchs9618
@stefan-georgfuchs9618 2 года назад
@@youngganghis5236 Hi, actually, I use this wheel with 4 different sims and I wanted to avoid setting up different TM driver settings. So I leave everything on 100%, wheel rotation 900°. Everything else is done in the sim software. As for AMS 2 , I use an overall gain of 85% ( thats the best for me and my personal state of health/fitness ) AND adjust FFB force furthermore and more subtle in the car setup, if need be. Some cars have better grip then others tyres, downforce...) and hence produce a higher power output on your wheel...at least that is my impression. Many people believe, the higher the force, the better ( cause more "realistic" ). But this is, in my experience, not true. It is like driving GT3 cars in sims without traction control and ABS as this seems to be more more "manly"..but those cars are actually developped for to use with TC and ABS. Without them, they would be very difficult to drive consisterntly a a high pace in reallity. However, back to FFB. If the applied FFB Level is too high, you need not only more force to move the wheel, but you also loose out a lot of the more subtle nuances of various FFB forces are overlaid by pure strength, so to speak. If you have to concentrate to put all your efforts into keeping the car on the track due to high FFB force in your wheel, you will not find the necessary feeling to direct the car to the right apex point...which leaves you always with a worse line then those of your opponents who, often silently, have tuned down their FFB to somewhat like 60%..which enables you top drive the car way more reliable and precise. Don't forget, that real world race drivers belong to the best trained athletes in the world to withstand high G-forces in fast turns , during hard braking and accelleration. They need to sustain several hours race in 130 dezibel racing sauna without falling into coma while driving as precise as possible on the limit. Not an easy task for the pro's anmd impossible for the untrained amateur. I would predict, that the average sim-racer isn't nearly half way as fit as most drivers and hence they shouldn't aim to simulate what these guys have to endure during a race ( including trainings, qualies and trackdays. ). Esdpecially not, when all the efforts on realism ends up in 10 Minute stints or pure hotlapping...real racing is way more complex and requires a way more developped set of skills then "just" being fgast for a couple laps. Long story short : You have to experiment yourself with the FFB settings of your wheel but ideally do this within the sim itself as much as possible and use guidance like the one from Mike, Steelcast and some other specialists.

I’m finding this too. But I’m nee to sim racing and have a modest setup with a Logitech wheel, so it’s probably a mixture of cheap setup, bad configuration and crap skill level for me lol. I’d love to get into this seriously, but I have no idea if it’s my driving skill (or lack thereof) or bad setup.

With all these AMS2 videos, you're really making me buy AMS2 haha. But I'm deciding these 2 games, AMS2 and Rfactor2, I play a lot of Asetto and I want an upgrade for it, so which game would you/others reading this recommend without buying any additional DLC?

In rfuktor file DAMPER works like servo. Also for T300rs for me I set it at zero(60,50,50,0 are my values for GTE cars).

@andreic5822
@andreic5822 3 года назад
@@SimRacing604 I cannot say anything about the Default ffb but if you open the rfuktor custom file this is written among the first lines in the file :"REMEMBER that in this file, the damping-slider sets the power steering strength. Adjust it lower for more torque feel, and adjust it higher for less torque feel."

I bought Ams2 awhile back and could not for the life of me get my t300 to feel right at all. After almost 2 hours of trying I gave up and got a refund. But I really really want to get it since these new updates but I'm still worried the ffb will feel dead. I also couldn't get the degrees of rotation to work correctly so the car either wouldn't turn or would be too twitchy. Idk if I was doing something wrong. But I'm used to the ffb from acc or rf2 so I was hoping to get something comparable. If anyone has any settings they could give me(or a suggestion on what custom ffb file to use) I'd really welcome it and rebuy the game to try it. Ty

Hi everybody, how could I place different force feedback to every car?,
@Jpilgrim30
@Jpilgrim30 3 года назад
Some people seem to have this idea that the Accuforce isn’t very strong because it’s not the most powerful wheel on the market. Turn up the force feedback in the NASCAR cup car at Daytona and tell me the Accuforce isn’t strong then. When the tires load up on the banking in the corners and you start hitting those bumps it’ll nearly dislocate your shoulders 😂

I had to use low force boost with my DD2 but with my SC2 Pro I don’t. Such better ffb from the SC2. The one thing this title is missing and something I wish people would talk about more is the lack of hardware profile saving. Every title on the market can have multiple hardware profiles except PCars and AMS2. It’s really important in a title that has such a large verity of cars that use different controls and would feel vastly different from one another. Until it happens I can’t take this title seriously.
