My new schedule 40+ hours no food. Then cabbage soup that evening then food the next day. Now beginning the process again - every other day sort of. Astounded by the results. I'm 63 years of age. Two weeks ago just started eating less each day. Then started this new process - see beginning. I started at the weight of 247lbs +- 3 lbs. Now I'm 233 lbs - Going for 200lbs by the first quarter of next year. I love 💘 autophagy it is healing my health issues. Now I'm dry fasting. I will drink spring water when I thirst. I do drink a little black coffee ☕😋 in the morning. But I hate sugar. However I wonder if I should put a little Trehalose in it?🤔 👍Thumbs-up for Mr. SIIM LAND.

Probably the older you get, the more you want to fast. Even in yoga/ayurveda they recommand to only start after age 30. Fasting for children is a very bad idea. Personally, I go 2MAD, 16/8. People tend to only think about the 16h fast window. But there is also cleansing/autophagy going on in the 8h window. As long you dont snack inbetween the 2 meals. At age 60-70 everyone should be doing OMAD imho. Should also become easier as you get older, since your activity and metabolism goes down. You're simply not that hungry anymore. I know a story of a verified 111 year old male yogi, that did OMAD for decades before his dead.

I had a friend in middle school, who in 7th grade in school, about 13 years old, decided to go into business for himself selling candy bars to the other students for profit. When he didn't sell out all of his stock, he simply ate what he had left. In one year's time he became diabetic. A high price to pay for his excess sugar consumption. I don't think we "get away" with sugar consumption at any age really, but maybe it is true that when our healthy resources are high in youth, the consequences of our poor habits take a little longer to present themselves in ill health depending on the strength of our natural immunity.

What thermal environments support autophagy more? Cold, Sauna Heat? Altitude environments? Sea level? vs Mountains (less O2)? Physical Exercise: HIIT-Aggressive? Or Steady-state cardio? Timing of when to take NMN: Should NMN be taken after fasting and exercise or before? I didn't know excessive sun exposure uses up NAD. Great interview!

I do remember her mentioning heat exposure/saunas, but not sure on cold exposure, although both are forms of hormesis. From what I know HIIT is superior to steady-state cardio in putting the body into AMPK/autophagy.

So would a good strategy be to do my cardio in the morning, and take all of my autophagy enhancers after.. Then, in the afternoon, lift weights and eat in a 4 hour window to feed the weight lifting? How much negative impact would this sort of schedule have on my strength training results?

For me, age (>60) is the issue. And probably not just for me. I suspect older people are more interested in the topic of anti-aging than the young - you guys excepted. So it is discouraging to hear (again) that autophagy declines with age. But have we been able to quantify this? Does it gradually taper off, or fall off a cliff the way that metabolism does after 60? You mention fasting and exercise, but how useful are those techniques in older people for inducing autophagy? I'm not giving up, so I do fasting (20 hours 3x per week, plus quarterly 5-7 day fasts) and daily cardio plus bi-weekly resistance training, plus my own supplement stack (NR, Fisetin, Quercetin, some methyl thing, carnitine, Ashwagandha, NAC and phosphatidylserine). But it would be motivating to hear some confirmation that it's not too late to really benefit from autophagy. Melatonin and late evening steam saunas have become my go-to methods for assuring a good night's sleep. If it makes sense that repairs to our body - autophagy? - take place while we sleep, then techniques to promote sleep should be ipso facto promoting autophagy. So I try to be as fasted as possible going into sleep. Ideally I don't eat after 4 pm, but that's hard to do on a regular basis.

Awesome routine man. I wouldn’t take everything said here to heart. I think a few things said in this vid need much further research. I would drop melatonin and try Andrew Hubermans sleep cocktail. It’s Magnesium threonate, apdigen and Theaninr. Daily melatonin can have a few weird effects and might mess with dopamine

You sound very hardcore about autophagy, but the benefits seem to be in cycling in and out of it after your have a healthy baseline. Too much of anything can be counter productive, note they talk about how some cancers prefer to be autophagic, so for those individuals it may be better to mitigate it

If one were to do a fast, just 1-3 days, but otherwise eating somewhat high carb and 6 times per day, would you recommend lowering the carbs and eating less frequent on the days leading up to it, or what way would preserve the most muscle?

I’m gonna hazard a guess here and say that what you eat is less important than when you eat in this context, and you would want to ditch the six meals and get on a time restricted feeding schedule leading up to the fast.

Hi siim! I’m doing 4 1/2 days dry fast, eating 2 1/2 days, currently in my 3rd week , doing this after 6 (5 days water fast) and stepping on a weight plateau, and looking for lose more weight and not having lose skin by autophagy. Do you think doing to much dry fast can be dangerous ? I still have 30 pounds to lose or more thnx

I would really be careful with a dry fast - I’m not a doctor but a dry fast seems quite dangerous. Abstaining from food is safe in most cases, but water is essential for our bodies; including facilitating detoxification which is something that is presumably quite important if you are fasting. Again , I’m not 100% sure, but maybe quit this one if you still have to ask if its dangerous and do more research from different sources. Look into the fasting mimicking diet with dr.Valter Longo which will give you essentially all the same benefits you are seeking in a safe clinically studied way. This may be a safer more sustainable method for you to obtain your goals without putting yourself at risk.

Why so little? I'll take four tablespoons of EVOO in my 142 g salad. And drizzle it on vegetables generally. I probably average around 6 tablespoons/day.

@@eman1989z A keto diet is high-fat, almost by definition. As they say here, a rough and ready marker for autophagy is glucose level divided by keto level. Olive oil has no relevance to either of those measures.
