Such a surprise! New episode so quickly. I’m glad you didn’t leave us “Cold Turkey” before summer. I’m sorry we will not let you properly retire, but your episodes are so educational, I learned so much and I always watch episodes multiple times. Big Thank You ❤🎉😊

I find your videos to be a treat for the senses but also quite interesting in an informative way as well. I’d never thought about which way the scales were facing when spinning but it makes sense to take that into consideration! One thing I’d love to know is how those long braided wool tops are made. It’s so easy to spin them and while I understand that top is made by combing the fibers, how to they make the long run of it so there isn’t as much splicing required when spinning it up (I spin on a drop spindle and I’m terrible at splicing). I love those beautiful braided wool tops from Etsy and would sure like to make my own.

That red fleece is soooo beautiful. I find it really difficult to find a nice red. It reminds me of “ravelry red” which is rios colourway that I knit my first cardigan in. Unfortunately, it was back when I didn’t understand about superwash yarns, and how they behave once knit up!….I am a total “wooly-wool” convert now. - What a great tutorial on using a carder! I could have really used that back when I had just purchased one. I found it difficult to find that sort of content online. The best place to find spinning content I found was Craftsy. - Thanks for the great video! I really enjoy watching your podcasts. One of my favs. ~ Afriendlyknitter

Lisa, thanks so much for this, it's exactly what I was needing. I use corriedale exclusively, mostly because it's what's accessible to me. @SoulfulSpinning
@SoulfulSpinning 9 месяцев назад
I love Elizabeth Hubbard’s Corriedale though I think most of hers are white. Observatory Hill Farm is in Wisconsin and that’s who I bought the gray and brown fleeces from. Whitefish Bay has beautiful fleeces but they are slowing down a bit. You might also check the breeder’s association. Of course a fiber festival is a great place to buy fleeces, too.

@@SoulfulSpinning Thanks for the speedy reply I'll be sure to check into the Observatory Hill recommendation. Is Elizabeth a personal friend or is there somewhere I could find her? Also, how do you scour your fleece, I think you might have mentioned it before but I can't remember now..I use scour power and about 160 degree water, and about a 2 gallon dishtub..lol..kinda wonder if I should back off on the heat of water but I do keep the rinse consistent with the wash water

How do you choose carding or combing?
@SoulfulSpinning
@SoulfulSpinning 6 месяцев назад
The length and crimp of the staple usually guide my decision. Locks greater than 3 inches or so are great for combing. Shorter crimpier fibers are good for carding. But I don’t have a clear and fast rule. It also depends on how you plan to spin. Worsted spinning is good for combed prep and woolen for carded. It’s good to environment and see what yarn you prefer for a given fleece. There is a lot if info and opinions out there for sure!

"It's an older book-- 2011..." Snort. I think I have a couple of stitch dictionaries on my shelf from the 1970s or 1980s. Remember Mon Tricot, anyone?

Oh my gosh I inherited that book and have it on my shelf. It’s lovely and has crochet in it too. I’ll have to pull that one out. 😂

You said you bought 8 ounces is that enough for a sweater I always have a difficulty deciding how much to buy

No it isn’t enough but I was able to order some more from the seller. I ordered another 12 ounces. That “should” be plenty for even the largest size. It’s always tricky knowing but I compared to the suggested yarn and rounded up. Fingers crossed I have enough. I found this article that gives some in depth guidance. sweetgeorgiayarns.com/2013/10/spinzilla-series-calculating-fibre-quantities-spinning/#:~:text=For%20example%2C%20if%20your%20handspun,of%20fibre%20or%2026%20ounces.&text=*%20Rough%20guidelines%20only.

I am currently combing a fleece that looks very much like your Romney cross fleece. Your singles yarn is so beautiful and has inspired me to give it a try with this fleece.

A linger stapled wool definitely makes it much easier to spin a singles! I hope you try it. 💕
