I knit colourwork socks inside out and knit on the side of the tube furthest away from me (so that you can still knit etc as per the pattern). It works really well because the floats are on the outside of the tube and get a bit longer rather than a bit shorter than needed.

Gorgeous batts! They make me want to bury my face in them! BTW sticklebacks are little fishes, about 2 inches or so long with spikey looking little dorsal fins. As children we would fish for them in the local beck and make a pond for them back home.

Who cares how many projects you start? Kate at Hawthorne Cottage Crafts just confessed she has 10 (ten!) pairs of socks on the needles :) Also, wanted to share that last summer my youngest son and I had a memorable day at the zoo and we saw a beautiful red panda. I remember thinking what a beautiful inspiration it would be for fiber. THE NEXT DAY I got an e-mail from Inglenook announcing the shop update with the red panda colourway. Talk about a sign saying I needed to buy fiber! Now its spun up and being knit into a sweater that will always remind me of a special day with my little boy. Love your channel so much!

Do you have the book, "Doubleweave Revised & Expanded" (The Weaver's Studio" by Jennifer Moore? I feel like that has stunning examples of how to use color in terms of making fabric. I personally focus on undyed fibers for lace making, but I did make an inkle loom so I will eventually check out some card weaving for my spun yarn. After looking at that book, I have so many ideas and direction on what I want to make for future projects. Thank you for sharing your lovely self. I'm cheering you on your Tour de Fleece challenge! <3

The “overwhelm” is real! I have a deep (DEEP) stash of yarns and fibers - and patterns and fabric. I love having options about what I am called to work on. It’s the process that appeals to me, not necessarily the product, although I like having a project finished. Sometimes the planning satisfies my creative itch and once the project begins I lose interest. I am more excited about Tour de Fleece this year than I have been in years past and I’ve enjoyed getting ready and re-exploring some of the lovely fibers I’ve gathered in the past. Now is their time to shine!

Color theory is very interesting, isn’t it! Lots of science which I was terrible at in school! 😂 I just ordered the book for book study, sounds interesting. So I’ll be late to the show… Also, checking out the color theory books! Love adding to the library! Found some good prices at Abe Books. 😊 Happy Fourth of July! 🎇🎆

Hi Lisa I always get happiness when I see you have a new podcast. You have inspired me to get my blending board out and create some floof! I dye my own fleece with a small vegetable steamer. I did an online course with Hilltop Katie, which is very practical and I highly recommend and not expensive. It’s so much easier to watch someone do it rather than read from a book - much less intimidating. ❤

Hi, Lisa. I just cast on the Swan Lake socks yesterday!😃I have had the project waiting for a while, but want to wear them to a picnic mid July so best get to work on them. Your socks from the book are gorgeous! I used to be a monogamous knitter but in recent years feel like I've taken on too many 'ideas' and built up a significant stash. I wonder if it's because I watch a few knitting podcasts that inspire me continuously. I'm almost relieved that my attempts at learning to spin have not taken hold. I think Sticklebacks (?) are a type of fish. I enjoy your podcast and your book review idea!

Yes, watching knitting podcasts and following knitters in social media makes it difficult not to want to cast in everything! It’s too bad that it takes so little time accumulating materials and so much time making the thing. You’ll be surprised how fast those colorwork socks knit up.

Love your podcast. So inspiring. But I have to ask. What is “fractile” (sp?) spinning?
@SoulfulSpinning
@SoulfulSpinning 3 дня назад
It is when you take a length of dyed wool and split it in half along the length. You then take one of the halves and further split it vertically into 2,3 or even more. You spin the first half as is. Then you spin each thinner strip to a separate bobbin. Finally you ply together. Whew 😥 that was a lot. Googling may send you down the rabbit hole! Have a great week. 💕

This leads, at least for me, to many, many projects, each with a different technique, etc. This gives my very busy brain a chance to switch between what's driving my heart at that moment. I love the design of your “failed” sweater. I’m wondering if you could take it in or add some darts under the arms, just as a seamstress would do? I have seen RU-vid videos on “steeking” for altering a knitted garment. Just a thought. You are so cute and funny. You made me laugh along with you many times. I am working on my first cardigan. I bought the pattern from a member of revelry. I have altered the design only because I spun my own yarn & it was not the same weight as the pattern called for. I’m almost done with it. I started it about 2 months ago. It doesn’t look like the pattern but, I like it. 😂 I love your podcast. I will check out some of your recommendations you shared. Yay to dyeing!! Get yourself a big plastic Rubbermaid tote, put all your dyestuffs and equipment, and you can just take out the tote, and you are ready to dye on dye day. Mine has been my favorite way to keep the dyeing efficient, and easy to set up clean up. Joy comes from then deciding what to name your newly dyed braids! Have fun. I tend to dye haptically (no planning ahead, just dig in and make color decisions as I work in progress)-I like low water immersion dyeing, and Saran wrapping/microwaving…..having some syringes is a great way to add color in small amounts, too….lots to explore!

Those colored brades look so fun to spin up. I had someone said to me when I was just starting spinning and wanted to dye wool. They had me go to the store to buy all different kind of Kool-Aid drink packets to use as a cheap dye. It was so fun to do, and if you have a little white wool and try it. Eventually they all get done and when I have several finish at the same time, people are amazed on how productive I have been. So funny!! I think a mix of projects keeps your mind interested. There is only math IF you want to replicate it. However, dying is my rabbit hole. Once I started I fell in love. I’ve let my kids (the ones I mentioned in my below comment lol) dye sock yarn from knit picks when they were 3 and 5 with bowls of dye (mostly jaquared), a spoon, and all set out on plastic wrap. It’s already presoaked in citric acid to hold the dye, and then they just paint the skein. You then roll up the plastic wrap around the yarn then microwave to set the colors for a few minutes, then let cool if you dont chose to flip. They are my PRETTIEST SOCKS I HAVE. And with this you dont have much bleeding of colors, so they were exactly like what they painted on them. So much fun for a group activity if you have a few people you want to invite over for craft night!

3 ply sock yarn! That sure is a challenge. I can do 2 ply sock yarn but that is super cool for a challenge to do! My next spinning tool will be a support spindle for laceweight to do that :) I am currently spinning for TDF hand dyed cloud top (it came with my espinner from the whoolery so its a mix lol) from each of my kids. 4oz each I weight out,and let them pick the colors. Sylvia (8yo) choose 14 different colors lol. They arnt bad though and Im excited. I’ve just started spinning hers and my son’s (10yo) roving is currently cooking in the dye pot haha😅
