I came to your channel for the landscape photography 7 years ago when I started photography at 23yo. I am now 30 and have been short listed and highly commended in multiple national photography awards and am in conversations with a global photojournalism magazine about publishing a story. I still enjoy you videos as much as the day I discovered them. the little nuggets you've given out during your videos have helped me so much earn money, get accolades and make many people happy with photos ive taken for them. I know you might not read this but a massive thanks for unknowingly helping my career.
@@Brock_in_the_NorthWell if you think you can or you think you can't... You're right! Always a lot to learn from if have an open mind. You find what you seek... Reap what you sow.
As this video starts, the frustration! When it happens I have learned to stop walking. Mindset time, this is not greatness of greatness days. Acceptance and joy of just being out releases the pressure, sometimes its an instant reward.
To stop my gear from Fogging up I got a plastic sealed box to fit my damp/wet camera bag into with some reusable silica gel packs. I also got a large ice cream tub with more silica gel in for the Body alone. I was having issues when sleeping in the car (with a bed) which gets pretty damp at night with condensation, Works a treat.
Mist and trees shot and the high waterfall shot are the best, because they actually say 'Cairngorms'. Photos should tell a story about where you are and how it feels!
Alternate script: "...but truth be know I couldn't really get going this morning......so, where's that beer box? LOL!! I'm guessing this was shot a bit ago since those colors were still present. I saw some pics today from someone I know in Keith, Scotland and it was full of snow!! Any, thanks for taking us along. Have a great weekend!
Well, I suppose at age 81 I'm one of the oldest subscribers to Thomas Heatons's channel. Don't know how many years it's been but I still look forward to his posts every Wednesday. Although I'm mostly a bird photographer I still look forward to the post peak season for autumn color. One of my most successful images this fall was a small birch stem with the sunlight backlighting the brilliant yellow leaves against a dark background tinged by just a bit of autumn color. You don't always have to have a great mountain vista for an autumn image. I fact, I've come to prefer picking out the bits and pieces of autumn color that remain after most of the leaves have dropped.
Those images just got better as you continued through the video. On a tanget, in the first few seconds of the vid, I know its it the snorkel on the van, but does anyone else think it looks like a ghostly face peering in at you? Now I have seen it I can't un-see it.
Out of all the photography youtubers I always come back to thomas heaton. Im entertained, inspired and in awe of the images. I'm not a photographer but that doesn't matter, I just like a good explore and I think thats out common ground.
The aggressive gestures in the river voice over shot were unhinged and I'm absolutely here for it, haha! The shot was absolutely magnificent too. Another great video Tom, good to see you continuing your long run of excellent form since I found your channel in early 2015!
Next time you're up this way and you're driving up the A9 , then you pass right past my favourite location , The Hermitage (just outside Dunkeld). I heartily recommend you pay it a visit.
Thomas Heaton doing what Thomas Heaton does best. Hiking in the UK and finding images, not finding images, battling the weather, that's what I subscribed to many years ago. Keep up this type of content please. Russ
Great video Thomas. My calendar arrived very promptly, thank you. Oh, and in our house we use "mizzle" quite often - more than mist, not quite drizzle.
With all this talk about how long been subscribed, I looked at mine and realised that November makes it exactly 9 years. I am just a simple picture taker but I really enjoy watching your passionate journey. Carry on making the good stuff.
Another excellent video..there are many times that we walk and struggle to find an image..loved your gesturing by the river...many thanks and best wishes
Use the small carabiner/hook of the Kase filter holder and hook it through your zipper pull of your jacket. The pull has a hole in it. No need to put the holder with filters down in precarious positions and your filters are always on you! Nick Page loved my idea when I was with him on a photo shoot in Oregon! 4 other participants also copied my idea and Nick ended up taking a shot with his iPhone with us 5 lining up with our filter case dangling from our chest!
Smashing photos Thomas, what I do think though is that you need to take someone with you on your walks or meet up with someone and have a bit of banter but most importantly a bit of company. This last wee while I seem to come away with the feeling that your a bit depressed and not up for going out taking photographs, please get someone to keep you company now and again and gee you up for the photographs your about to get. 😁👍
Great images Thomas. I loved how you carried the grille of an old jaguar in the bottom of the shot with the rapids. It just looks like you put the whole car underneath there 😂 grt guido
Haha thanks for that at the end, Michelle was watching with me 🤣🤣! - also you've made it in to my Friday video ;) Great images and always an inspiration for me to get out with the camera...
Enjoyed the video as usual Thomas. Yep rain that's Scotland for you. You captured some really nice image's especially the waterfall and river ones. Look forward to the next one and hope the weather is good to you.
Great gesturing Tom. You should do more of that. Lovely shots. I loved the first shot of the broken tree as it was something unique and something you found yourself. Not a stereotype or 'stamp collection' image. Great video.
Very good video Thomas as usual!!!! I’ve tried to check it out but I couldn’t seem to figure it out, but I hope you’re still using your “IFootage” tripod and it looks like you are. I purchased one just because of your review and all of the times I saw you using it and I don’t understand why this incredible piece of kit isn’t in everybody’s arsenal!!!!! I will never forget the day that I saw it, or the day it was delivered and I pulled it out of the box!!!! The quality, and engineering is amazing!!! I can only say that it has never gone above my expectations!!!! Thanks!!!!
There's nothing else like a little wet adventure. Thanks for taking us along with you Thomas. I didn't mind the rain at all. Thanks for sharing your process.
At 13:05 there was a view through the windscreen which would have made a great abstract. I have seen some beaut images taken through rain soaked windows. Great storytelling as usual.
I've been following you for 5 years :)). Autumn in your area is magical with yellow leaves and you can freely compose photos to create beautiful photos. In my country, Vietnam is a tropical rain zone, so there are very few yellow-leafed trees, and they are not protected, so the proportion of natural forests is small.
2:41 a beautiful detailed image, new word in this video "mizzle" the mix of mist and drizzle, day 2 the combination of mist and fog, "Mog"? 10:11 a simple limited colour image 11:55 almost pure texture transition from bottom to top day 2 chucking down with rain "chain" 15:37 stunning detail contrasting against the water movement, my favourite 17:50 classic waterfall framed by autumn colour mood by mist! great Video Thomas
I live in the Highlands and have scenery like this literally on my doorstep but it's amazing how often, like you here Thomas, I used to walk miles looking for inspiration and feel frustrated but in reality I have learned to 1) Enjoy the walk, the scenery and fresh air and 2) The scenes really do come to you sometimes, not always where you'd planned. I shoot medium format and accordingly have a more limited selection of focal lengths on any given trek (usually 2 lenses that cover 35mm equivalent of 15mm to 80mm) so I let the scene happen and just try to be there at the right time. This video resonated with me on many levels - especially sodden wet equipment. And I approve of the BFG All Terrains - I have those too. Essential Highland stuff!
