Im glad you explained why you only give 10-year height information. Having been a big fan of you guys, I have spent a lot time on your website and watched lots of your videos. It’s been puzzling to me why you chose to do that. I think it would be more useful to give heights at 25-35 years. Sure it will outlive us ultimately, but 25-35 years would be the ownership time for most people. It allows better planning. It would be devastating having to cut down a JM after 15 years because it’s too big for the intended space. When we buy a 3-5 gallon JM, it’s already 3-5 years old. Hopefully most of us get to enjoy them for at least another 10-20 years more. So I think 10-year height projection is is not long enough.

Multiple it by 2 to 3 times. I dont see any issues with a 10 year estimate. If anything its more practical to know how much growth to expect per decade. Once you know how many feet per 10 years, a bit of basic math will get you the average amount of growth per year.. then multiply that amount by X years and you'll have the total height for X amount of years.

It was SOLD OUT SO FAST when I saw it my heart sank 😢 I sent the " notify" me when became available..again!!! I just found a 1 gallon one at our local nursery out here in Washington so despite it being TWICE as much as your 1 gallons ...but it was such a BEAUTIFUL specimen I BOUGHT it AFTER WATCHING your video...again !! I’m excited about getting it replanted into a larger container pot. And then making it the focal point of the small container pond that I’m going to put in out yard. So I just planted one of these last fall, I’m in 5b and I put it on the SE corner of our house. It should get some late day sun but not much until next year likely. I understand it won’t get optimal color but will it at least be ok? Will it burn in the early afternoon sun? Or would you recommend I find a way to shade it?

Burning can be an issue in evening sun. It really just depends on how much and how hot your area is

I had it in that corner last season and the tips got badly burned (way too much sun from 6 or 7 am to 2 or 3 pm)so this spring I potted it and keep it on my patio. There it was getting about 2-3 of early afternoon and late evening sun on the patio the leaves stayed very chartreuse/ bright green. Recently we started getting patio work done so I had to move it to a less protected area and it gets probably 3+ hrs of direct afternoon sun and the leaves have gone much more amber/red but I try to keep it watered well so no burning yet but hoping to move it back to its protected space soon. Good luck with yours. I’m also in zone 5b if that helps you at all.

How does Autumn Moon do in zone 8? I am down here in Charlotte.

Ive seen -2 in Charlotte in the past 10 years myself so I would not consider it zone 8. Zones are based off how cold winters are. I would say it does awesome in your area just give some late day protection from the hot afternoon sun.

Hi Guys I love your Maple Video but I find Autumn moon a difficult maple to grow. Prone to die back and does not like full sun. I think Summer Gold is less troublesome but the foliage is not as attractive as full moon.

If you are having trouble with Autumn moon check out Moonrise. It’s similar but a little more durable with some great colors. I do recommend late day shade for autumn moon for sure
