How much avgas is carried by the 2 auxiliary fuel tanks seen in inner pylon (#3 and 3A)? They are huge and look like 2000lbs bombs.

The AV-8B Harrier II Plus is a beautiful aircraft, I want it to remain operational for many more decades and never need replacing unnecessarily.

VMA-231 and VMA-542 both of MAG-32, MCAS Cherry Point, N.C., when I was serving between '87-'92. I'd never seen a plane fly that slow. Look up in the sky and see a plane, seemingly levitating. It was disconcerting at first. I was attached to MALS-32 Aircraft Support Equipment (GSE/ASE). It was hot as h*ll on the flight line. 5 squadrons in MAG-32: VMAT-203, VMA-223, VMA-231, VMA-331, VMA-542. One shot, one kill. Semper Fi, Marines.

@@travismerrill1781 Ooh Rah Marine. I sometimes wish I'd stayed in. I got out after 5 yrs, stayed out about a year, and was about to go back in but got in a car accident and almost lost my leg. I was very disappointed that I wouldn't be able to go back in. I had a lower tib/fib fracture, Joe Theismann style. Had to endure quite a few surgeries to put my foot back on. Couldn't walk for about 1-1/2 years. Marine Corps taught me to endure. Adapt, improvise, and overcome. No more PT though, haha.

It was hot on the flight line like you mentioned. Fortunately I worked on night crew majority of time.

Sorry to hear about your accident and all the recovery time. I did hear of some men getting out of the corps and then going back in but they changed to different Mos. Nobody wanted to maintain Harriers for one more day They either changed to different Mos entirely are different aircraft

The Harrier is one of the Best Fighters ever produced. I wish we had kept ours in The UK. It did the Business in The Falklands. God Bless our Brothers and Sisters across the pond.
