I believe you have to upload the video in 8K to force youtube to implement AV1, but then I think it reserve for high view video/channel. Because trying to view video in chrome on my SD665 phone. It only shows AV1 codec on 8K videos.

@@mianlo2624 It wouldn't matter anyway. You can't make a codec comparison on youtube, because it re-encodes every video with fairly aggressively tuned settings on their side.

++ im sick of these kinds of video codec comparisons. People in RU-vid (even big geek/tech youtubers with million subs) really dont how to properly compare video codecs. They think best way of comparing literally anything in this world is just show it as it is

They really need to link to the original encodes because I can’t tell the difference. It’s hard to gauge the quality when RU-vid is compressing the hell out of it in the first place.

@@livedreamsgthese video codecs have already passed the point where u can see difference of them on 720p screen which already double compressed into vp9. Which defeats the whole porpuse. Any artifact u see it may or may not be from original h264 or av1

I would love to see an AV1:HEVC comparrison next. I cant wait to get my hands on the cheapest ARC desktop GPU with AV1 encode. ALL hardware encoding i've tried so far (QSV, NVENC, VCE, VideoToolBox)has an extreme swing from pretty darn good compression ratio, to actually making the files larger.

AV1 (VP10) outperforms HEVC, which is a competitor to VP9. And we don't need HEVC. It's paid codec. AV1 competitor is EVC, but it's not free either and not even released yet.

hevc is still faster and better quality. anyone who says otherwise is a delusional fanboy. proprietary will always be technically superior to open source.

Having used an arc a770 for Broadcast encode in the past, I can honestly say the most impressive thing is just how crazy good Intel's AVC encoder is. Really a step above the competition even now. Insane throughput and insane quality.

Why is av1 always compared to avc and never hvec 265 - when I look at 264 vs 265 they make it seem like 265 uses 50% less bandwidth which in turn would mean av1 uses 25 % more bandwidth based on claims . Or is both just being over exaggerated

@@saschapurner9579 So, you were using integrated Intel graphics only before Intel made dedicated GPU's? I think they only started to make dedicated GPU's and not sure how much. That is something for me to consider if I ever need to replace my hardware. I'm using an Intel CPU and Nvidia GPU. There is integrated graphics support, but I don't use it. I know I would have had less problems if I did though. Nvidia has been a bit of a headache. But, I used to place games and the integrated graphics weren't enough.

@@MrApplewine I understand. But i can tell, this year i made a lot of new knowledge i did not nearly expect bevore about our hobby and passion of computer graphiks. I try to channel the Arc maded graphics over the GT530 integrated graphiks from intel and it work fine also in some game, but there is more to do for me, to can tell more over the time. I say, if you would have the maximum image quality buy an intel arc card. no matter, how much she cost or fast she is. the quality is insane if i compare to the both others. the lied us all the time, intel was showing them, who have the eye for the details. I do not be a fanboy, but this they did more than right.

AV1 codec are made for ultra low bitrate 1080p videos when You can stream 0,5Mbs 60 FPS with decent quality. For better performance there is h265 over old h264. For 8K and next gen HDR videos they even release h266

this comparison is like to compare soft and wet AV1 must to be compared with H.265/HEVC that it intended to replace and don't forget that h.265 had been adopted back in 2013!!
