@@troubl3gum originally you couldnt choose your video thumbnail on youtube. it took the thumbnail exactly from the middle of the video. hence why the title is put there again.
There's a big ski area further down on this mountain, complete with chairlifts. They blast the snow above it so it doesn't get too deep, then suddenly come down when people are skiing. That avalanche was actually smaller than the one they'd have if they didn't do that.
This is the glacier on Mt Ruapehu central north island NZ, true left of the Turoa skifield. The peak on the left looking up is Tahurangi, the outer right peak is girdlestone.
At first I was like, really? This shit isn't even my dick size. Then that shit just took everything away and I'm still like wtf just happened to all the snow on the mountain, it was all here a second ago...
thats just foolish, the energy in that avy would crush you so fast, it would be like snowboarding on a fast moving swamp, good luck with that. new zealand is awsomE!!!
Look at the RU-vid video called "That's what I call a Avalanche". This avalanche video is "peanuts" compared to the one I mentioned. South of Aspen, Colorado there was a avalanche in the backcountry that was a mile wide and it dropped 2,000 feet. Enough trees were blown over that if could get access to them to cut up for firewood that 10,000 people could take 4 pickup trucks of cut up firewood. I don't remember the date that this occurred. There was an avalanche that was narrow but dropped 120 FEET DEEP on top of the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad Train Tracks. This is in southwestern Colorado in what is called the San Juan Mountains. This last avalanche happened in the spring of 2019. There's a RU-vid video by the Colorado Department of Transportation which has the responsibility of snowplowing and avalanche clearing debris off the highways. This video is showing Red Mountain Pass view from a helicopter. They closed down this mountain pass highway for 17 DAYS. They had two snowplowing/avalanche clearing crews working 12 shifts each for 24/7. They set off avalanches by flying over them and dropping dynamite charges. But it kept snowing and avalanches happened by themselves. So here's the video. Red Mountain Pass- extended closure (720) by Colorado Department of Trans- portation
This is the video name I previous mentioned about but I didn't give the video title name is called "World's Biggest Avalanche - Contrasting Views" by Thom Goddard. Somewhere in Europe this took place, 6 years ago. Now this video shown here maybe large or the biggest at that time of 11 years ago. But this video by Thom Goddard is alot bigger.
I thought at first they had ruined a good slope to lay some nice tracks....until the wole fucking face gave way. Bloody hell. Caught in that would tear your limbs off after knocking the wind from you. You'd be dead hopefully before you went over that fall ..Snow is deceptive. Pick up one handful and throw it in your mates face, Hard. Now imagine a house sized piece doing the same. This is hundreds of house sized bits, relentless and unstoppable. Good successful shot with the charge at the top.
dude i outran an uncontrolled avalanche almost went all the way to the bottom cuz me n my friends were starting close to the peak and once it was going i ran for my life i conquered my fear now its time to board down somewhere else hopefully we wont be alone so that i wont be able to gegt talked into an avalanche run cuz dont want to do it for a while almost died within a few minutess of the start that how fast it was fucking adrenaline but i believe god saved me then so thank u god!!
my grandpa, Willi Unsoeld, died on Mt. Rainer in washington. I wasn't born yet, but let me tell you, avalanches are no laughing matter. My grandpa was the first to ascend the west ridge, and most difficult ridge, of Mt. Everest, yet he died in an avalance on a mountain half the size, and also his "home mountain." avalanches can be triggered by the slightest prod of a ski pole, so please people, ski or ride or climb with at least one partner, and avalanche gear for back country journeys.
Yea thats cool from a video but what they didnt tell you was the puff at the begging was me from a helicopter drop landing on that shit... all that snow is no avalanche thats the dust of me going so damn fast they used a video edit to slow mo it and make it seem like an avalanche .... That shit was me its a better view from the front trust me i see urry day lolz
it happens every damn time, i go to youtube to search a video and before i can search the video i get carried away by the "suggested for you videos" ....and now im watching avalanche from hell when i should be watching 9/11 tributes
@Guest3331 You hear the dynamite go off at the start and see the puff of snow from it. This was obviously a controlled blast which explains the helicopter filming it. Anyway pretty epic footage. That's my home mountain but I've never seen it look that angry!
im usually the negative 1 but this was some pretty good footage i just got a few pointers 1. who come on 40 to 47 there were snow rising from the ground 2.how come at the end the snow was gray other than that it was pretty cool
Yeh they start the avalanches using what is basically a big gun. They monitor any high risk areas and stop the snow building up, so there is less risk of massive avalanches. However this time, I think they left it a bit too late...
hey I watch this one from the base area and it honestly shot a cloud of snow like 200m in the air as it hit the waterfall at bottom of the triangle. Is this denim's tape? Go the Turoa patrol! Road Crew Mitch.
hidochan; That was a canon being fired. Look closely at the shaded part of the slope you can see it detonate. They do this all over the world to trigger avalanches to make it safer for skiers, climbers, boarders, etc.
True there was a charge that initiated this slide, but this was NOT control. This was a couple dudes fucking around causing a MASSIVE slide. This was done in a "National" park. They were disciplined. Amazing!
I could snowboard on top of that. Sure it's a hellova lot of snow, but the slope is not steep at all, and it's not moving very fast like most avalanches. Looks like fun. I had no idea New Zealand had mountains like this.
@koffiemokie It's going to go at some point, so they perform 'Controlled' avalanches when they know it's safe to do so. I guess they will do some to study how they develop and behave etc
well usually they purposely set off Avalanches before they get bigger and more dangerous. Or set off by a skier. But this one looked to be in the middle of nowhere so I don't know.. maybe just for fun!
If you don't do that skiers could pass on it and make it fall and die ... now people can pass on it in safety ... This is the job of some people that are there to protect people
i sure hope you make peopl;e understand why they do it now hahaha most people are like why do that?! i think its self explanitoy hahah but i hope mroe dumbies stroll upon your comment =D
Reminds me of when my uncle Bobby's coveralls split down the side bobbing for apples at the farmhouse when i was 11 - that was more of a flab-o-lanche though.
Wait for it, wait for it, dammnnn. I like how people say the have seen weres (meaning worse, I have a special decoder ring used when idiots speak). I'm sure you have buddy.
@leewales4 yea its called DOWNLOAD IT, google "youtube video ripper" or something like that and just paste the link into their. good luck good sir with your lecture
hmmm should i click on "Dead body on Everest - South Col" or "Playing with lava".... tough choice...ON second thought i am gonna go with "Slavic girls in military ;)"!!!
people do that all around the world that why the snow wont built up too much and cause an even bigger avalanche, this way they can control it so it doesnt hurt anyone
looks like it was a controlled avalanche caused by the blast in the beginning. it's done on purpose so that avalanches don't occur by accident when there are people near by.
Avalanche from Hell...? Well, I don't mean to be picky but I thought Hell was below decks & somewhat hotter...? Maybe it's just me...(obviously not from previous comments).
avalanche from hell...therefore the snow would melt and evaporate to gas so the avalanche wouldn't exist just as hell doesn't rendering this video completely crap.
Er, avalanche IN HELL?! From what little I know or care about religion, I was always under the impression hell l was generally believed to be a hot place...
What is really scary here is... the lower slopes caught up in the fracturing aren't that steep and not what you would typically associate with avalanche terrain... A perfect metaphor for too big to fail...
