I don't normally comment on videos, but wanted to post a thank you in this case. I had *no* idea the tuner nodule was buried behind the sound padding. I was searching unsuccessfully for that quad lock connector to add my new head unit and was ready to start hacking my own harness.
Thank you very much for this video. I did not know that there was a stereo was a 740iL that was a direct replacement. Thank to you I was able to do my install. I didn't have to take the cluster out. I ran my wires thru the center console. Excellent job! Hopefully you'll post more videos.
I have an E38 and I plane to do the same. But I do not fancy taking, the audio signal from the front all the way to the trunk. And also the the correct input to any E38 amp in the trunk is a balanced signal, So what about using an USB DAC connected to the android unit. And simply use a USB cable to the trunk. When you put the DAC unit in very close distance to the amplifier. You can get a USB DAC with balanced output. I think it will improve sound quality and also you do not have to fight with that awkward extension cable.

Getting ready to pull the trigger on my silver 2001 740il. I'm not as techy as you guys, so I'll prolly have a local shop do mine. My old radio screen is failing and the wife wants something nicer than the 20 year old technology. Does it have jump drive capability? I might have missed that. Excellent job fellas!
I’m in the middle of install and the blue remote turn on for the amps doesn’t work - it stays at +12 when you turn off the Avin4 so the amps remain on when you’re driving the car. Did you run into anything like that?
Hi, does this thing always start up for a whole minute? Also, does music start play when you turn on the key like in OEM unit or you gotta wait till it fully launches?

It really depends on if you want to use this like a regular tablet and browse on it often, if you want it for mostly music I’d say you can’t go wrong with the px6 not bad for $50 more

This person is a reseller for Xtrons but do not say though. He has an Xtrons made for E38. It is the only E38 unit Xtrons have. He laso have the IBUS APP. It is the exact same that must be done for both Xtrons and Avin. If you are unsure find a free vin number decoder on the interweb. Type in your vin number. and lock for option S677A Hifi DSP System. Mine was working good for a month and then out of nowhere black screen.. what could be the cause I know the radio is good still? Maybe a short ? Or does the navigation have something to do with it a few people said that in a e38 fb group.
What would you suggest if I am not getting any sound? I have the two big connectors connected in the back, and the one big connector connected to the head unit. Unit powers on and seems to work fine, I just have no sound. Thanks,
I just installed an AVIN Avant 4 in my 98 740il. I have factory DSP but not the factory navigation. Everything works except the sound. Only have sound for 57 seconds then goes silent. Any ideas what I’ve done wrong?
@@n54andmore56 Ok, I only ask because I ended up moving the whole 16:9 into the trunk, with those cables as well. So if I end up getting this unit, Im hoping that I only have to run that extra cable bundle to the front, without messing with the original screen connectors that we were discussing.
If you have a BMW E38 with onboard screen. You must install an app that connect via USB to the BMW buss system. If not you will loose a lot of functionally. Like onboard computer. And perhaps also buttons on the steering wheel. You will also gain a much better parking distance control functions. if you car was fitted with that when new. Regarding the GPS. BMW e38 had that as an option and the antenna was hidden under the parcel shelf cover. You can hide it away there and no one will ever see it. And get an extension cable to the Android unit, Avin and most other sell those. I think that's more of a BMW design feature. When the head unit is in the front, controls are in the rear, and there's a clear desire to not have bare hardware exposed... it leads to this.
