This looks quite interesting, I appreciate it’s not released yet and may not be on the day one patch but there are parts that look rather “janky”. Especially when fighting the helicopters- along with the pop in I can see at times - be one to watch out for though
My thoughts exactly. Looked sick on foot but something about it when fighting the heli in the air looked like an arcade game, not arcade like doom or something but like a literal dave and busters arcade game. UI also looks super meh
i attribute some of the "jank" to jackfrags gameplay style. hes pretty derpy at games, his movement, control etc is very messy and it makes the gameplay seem messy. you dont noticed it in multiplayer games since its about being skittish and twitchy so it looks normal. in a single player cinematic experience his multiplayer twitchiness looks janky. i myself when playing cinematic experiences like this tend to use a controller or slightly lower sensitivity on m&kb to make it feel more cinematic. im not playing a singleplayer experience to be "the best" or use the meta's. i play it how i would like it to be watched if i was watching a movie. as for the popping im sure itll get ironed out although in a game like this where you can fly straight up over the playable space its gonna be near impossible to stop popping of objects. games with with open worlds that allowed you to be extremely elevated all have popping of objects even GTA V. the only things help help make it less noticeable is fog really. Those closer range pops though seem to be more lighting problems where shadows aren't rendering so im sure it'll be fixed
it's a ubisoft game, it might look visually good, but the writing, mission design, the braindead A.I, the characters and world design will put you to sleep, better look the other way.
The Ekron jump gave me goosebumps at flight. This game definitely has huge potential as long as they continue supporting it through the bugs and the patches over time.
@@hampusbergqvist6827that's just not realistic. That's why it's better to have a supportive and driven approach when it comes to these bigger games that are meant to be played for a while
@@hampusbergqvist6827 Lol. Patching has been the best thing for video games. There are video games in the "golden years" that are actually unplayable cause a glitch causes it to not actually work. I don't know what you guys are huffing to have such childish notions.
@@coryfice1881they said a game shouldn’t need patches to be good not that they shouldn’t need them at all. All games are going to have at least some minor glitches that need patching, but that’s different than releasing a game with a multi gig day one patch.
@@hampusbergqvist6827As good as it sounds, it’s not as feasible as you think. Now a days video games are WAY more complex in comparison to how it was years ago, while it might work perfectly in the developer’s closed environment of their PCs etc, software can react in ways you can’t predict once it’s out of the wild, things that weren’t broken in the studio can break upon release.
@@jaybanks3463omg a videogame that takes place on the same planet that the movies take place in having the same biodiversity and terrain as the planet from the movies that is the same planet as the game 😵😵😵
My biggest issue with this game is that its a 1st person game, surely the best part of avatar is being a 7ft/8ft tall blue alien, so the whole third person angle would actually make this much cooler
Exactly. Although, I'm thinking this could be a good choice too, looking at how immersive the gameplay experience is. I'd say Ubisoft truly outdid themselves with the visuals and the world
If they made it 3rd person it would lose immersion. You realize your height when standing next to humans. So yes, the character model is accurately scaled in terms of height.
You would probably come across the problem Assassin's Creed has and that is the third person camera just having to struggle across weird terrain, environments and especially tight places. You'd want to see what's in front of you and probably your character but prioritizing both will require either x-ray mode where the camera phases through walls, forced close ups where it doesn't phase through walls but instead the gets close to the character enough to phase through and weird inputs where in a parkour situation, if your camera isn't locked and for AC Valhalla it isn't, the direction you're going isn't always clear. An example would be trying to get a view of the world but with a stone wall right behind the character. Your camera has to be offset, phasing or doing close ups.
I personally feel like a lot of the parts shown look quite visually outdated. Some parts are definitely stunning but especially the scenery during flying (3:28) reminded me a bit of Oblivion tbh (looks like they just pasted the same low res texture on every rock and mountain). There also seems to be a lot of jankyness in terms of animations. Don't really know what to think of it yet.
Same. Feels like it lacks polishing, a lot of it. The jumping feels too floaty and the mechanics to highlight everything in your vision (enemies, mission objectives, etc) feel outdated too.
My guess is that the world is so big that when flying it reduces visual quality to keep performance stable. The time of day at 3:28 also made it look kind of flat since the sun was covered and there was no light hitting the floating islands. Just guesses though
I remember playing the first Avatar video game, that released alongside the original movie, on my old PS3. Whilst that was a somewhat mediocre game (fun enough for a while, but I never found myself really drawn back to it), there was one element that I really appreciated that isn't present here: the old game let you choose your side in the war for Pandora. You had the choice to fight for the RDA, despite the game's mechanics clearly being structured around primarily playing as the Na'Vi. That's not to say the RDA wasn't fun either. For one thing, different sections of the game gave you opportunities to pilot those big mech suits, the helicopter gunships, and even the huge four-engine "Dragon" gunship toward the end of the story. Another neat little mechanic tied into the character progression - as the Na'Vi, you could only earn XP from fighting legitimate threats, whereas an RDA character could get bonus XP (albeit very small amounts) from shooting anything that moved, harmless or not. This still looks like a great and fairly well-made game, but I personally just find it a little jarring that a awesome option present in it's decade-old predecessor has apparently been completely ignored here. Granted, looking at how some of the mechanics work, I understand why this game locks you into playing as a Na'Vi, but it's still kinda disappointing.
Agreed. The war between the Navi and Humans was great fun as well, working the strategy map as a side. Would be awesome if deploying reinforcements/reducing forces in a sector made that sector easier or harder when you went to it 🤔
At first I thought it was going to be a joke but this actually looks pretty good. It looked like the mechs, flying bad guys and military were a little to easy to kill but other than that. I might be interested in buying and not waiting for a sale. I just don't buy full retail anymore, developers don't release great games anymore.
@@distorteduziif a game of this scale only takes you a few days to do everything in it then you need some other hobbies or a job. This will easily have 100 hours of content if you want to explore most of the map and 100% it.
I disagree with the notion that developers no longer release great games. While it is true that the new financial predatory practices are taking a big hold of the video game world, the idea that games just aren’t good is not true. Perhaps it is your own personal life that makes you less interested in them, perhaps it is the financial availability and freedom you have now compared to when you were younger, perhaps it is the sea of titles whereas back in the day so few games released we played them not because they were great but because they were available and we didn’t complain. Truth of the matter is that games now are infinitely more advanced and intricate than in the past. If you wanna talk about inspired games then I will agree with you, it is hard to come up with something new and fresh considering just about everything has been tried before, but that’s a natural consequence of art, just like music, it’s really hard to come up with something truly original.
I appreciate small details like that, just like games where if you get close to a wall the character lowers his weapon, its the little things that blow my mind now
@@IIOver9000I just finished Alan Wake Remastered, and noticed that when you park a car in a way that blocks the driver’s side, the character will exit the car through the opposite door. Thought it was really cool detail, especially in such game, which is not GTA or open world, and doesn’t have emphasis on cars
We've only seen so much. However, I really hope they emphasize some tarzan like movement(Mirror's edge, Dying lIght, etc...). Whole point of these fantasy worlds are that they're unqiue to how the people are living in them. With each unique world should come unique movment in the enviorment. Would love some cool traversal moves. These games can not just rely on enviorment building with no ways to traverse the enviorment. Jump pads and 'hold E' ropes are not a good sign. Anybody else see where I'm coming from?
@@PvMPlopLop100% agree, Huge mistake was making Human Kinetic weapons the Center of it too, just don’t feel like the navi experience at all. Second sin was making the mechs and enemies in general easy - this is just terrible for immersion and fun. Remember games like dishonoured where the bigger enemies like mechs were only approached if ABSOLUTELY necessary because they were so threatening.
Regular Ubisoft game in term of gameplay. Graphics also look good, but that was never probelm for ubisoft. It will all be down to a magnitude of story and how well is put togather
it already looks like it's suffering horrible FPS drops so don't hold your breath. I have a 7800x3d+3080 and I regularly 100% all the cores on the CPU and GPU all for 90fps or less, while doing simple sim racing. Meanwhile on a single screen I can easily get 400 fps. They need a breaththrough on the way they render VR or something because right now it's not very good
Honestly hope it’s a like an advanced version of the original avatar game where you get to play as the rda or Navi depending on which side you pick. That game was so fun to me even though it may have been lacking a bit in some ways. It felt expansive and fun and both sides had completely different campaign and feel to them.
I wish it were available on steam. I had a lot of fun with it. I remember it getting absurdly difficult though. Idk if I’m remembering correctly though
The first gameplay show off they did say the story is about (your character) Na’vi who have been taken from at a young age and trained to fight against their own. Until the events of the first avatar movie when the rda lead the attack on the Tree of Souls, the trained Na’vi were put in cryo and you awaken before or just after the rda return to Pandora. In short, we won’t be able to play as a human unless a dlc story line is created.
@@naturalbornpatriot6369It was difficult for me when I was a kid, might be the same for you, but I replayed it the other day and its a lot easier than I remember it being
I'm actually a little impressed. It's surprisingly good looking - not only the graphics but also handling and gameplay look decent. Didn't expect much from an Avatar game, but I think, I will give this one a shot. Thanks for sharing, Jack!
As someone who's lukewarm on the whole Avatar franchise and wishes James Cameron would do something else with the twilight of his career... this game actually looks really fun. It has b-game vibes in certain places which is weird considering how beautiful and detailed the world is.
Agree on the b-game vibes. A bit of the air combat and flight section had some horrible textures on display and not enough lighting work to obscure it. For a moment those rocks looked like Oblivion!
Ya, I'm lukewarm on the films too. I would give this game a go if it shows it has something more to offer. Namely a good story. But... I doubt it. If it's fun and pretty, great. But if all it has are visuals and not much more then I'll have to pass it by. It's kinda like these movies. They are gorgeous and fun, but ultimately not really worth watching again. And I feel that a game Ike this will ultimately be less interesting than even the movies are. But running around on Pandora would be cool, no doubt.

AmI the only one thinking this would work better as a 3rd person game, being able to see yourself? It probably would take more work for them regarding animation, but I think this kind of universe deserved that.
if not a full 3rd person at least a little more of your toon for a better sense of scale and perspective, it looks " weird " to me not seeing more of the toon

Looks pretty good for the most part, some of the flying scenes have some PS2 era lighting, but other than that, it actually looks like it could be a solid experience.
Not only that. Look at that ridiculous skybox! That looks like something straight from Nintendo/PS1 era. And the animations from the first person perspective look just as outdated. The character has no weight to her movements whatsoever, all animations seem half-assed and those floating arms when running make it feel like you're playing Mario in first person mode. I'm not nearly as impressed as all those Avatar stans jizzing in their pants from all the excitement, just because they'll get to play an Avatar game. It's still Ubisoft we're talking about here, guys! They've been fuking up every franchise they have for all those recent years with their bland and generic RPG grindfest formula, they'll surely manage to fuk up this one with that same formula as well.

Reminds me of halo in a way. Similar looking outdoors. The creature is basically a banshee, there was a jump pad like the grav jumps. The installation you fly to and the on foot combat are all reminding of halo. The Avatar is essential master chiefs armour making you bigger than all the humans and the HUD is even similar. Hopefully it will be good.
The writing and dialogue feels a bit awkward for sure, but I feel as though that’s not an uncommon thing for Ubisoft. Overall it looks very promising, I’m very glad that the Avatar franchise is getting a AAA game release. It feels very weird to think that this game is gonna be nearly 10 years old by the time the franchise is finished.
As the video went on the game started to look a lot better, but there was definitely something off with it at the start, especially while you were flying around. The graphics looked quite dated! I have high hopes for this game so fingers crossed they can sort these things out for the release, the game looks like it would be gorgeous in HDR, especially at night!
Imagine thinking these graphics look "dated". Good lord, what have we become. No wonder games take forever to make now and developers are being crunched into oblivion.
@@tronamif you actually read my comment you'd see I said the game looked good but at certain times it looked dated. Look at 3:20 and 3:32 and tell me there isn't something off. The lighting isn't right and the clouds are patchy and flickering. There was issues with things flickering throughout the whole video which can be seen from the very start of the video. These are all things that can be fixed obviously so I'm hoping for the best, I was just expecting it to look a bit more polished if they wanted to show it off.
if this got survival elements like building base and stuff and cool side quests and a nice long campaign mission and some underwater exploration too, I can see this selling very well

When I think of a Avatar game I want to explore more of the world and clan traditions not going around fighting the RDA, hopefully that's not required but from seeing all the vids on this game it seems to be one of the main features which is kinda disappointing. From some of the reviews I've heard the Ikran riding isn't that great which is honestly so sad as I was so excited about taming an Ikran too 😭 it also seems like everyone gets the same Ikran aswell. Like come on! Let be be able to fight and tame whatever Ikran I want like the first movie, not this nonsense of chasing one around and trying to calm it down crap 💀
I didn't realize they announced this game back in 2017...it feels like ages ago, and I suppose it was. My life was still ok back then, youthful, I could hear...had friends and family around me still. Anyways I do remember playing the original game back in the day and I honestly did enjoy it, even though it was a bit rough around the edges. While I cannot quite hear the full breadth of this world and music, it does look very pretty and I will be excited to stumble my way through it in the future.
