@@richardb6260 I love seeing the differences between Na'vi and avatars - some others are that avatars have eyebrows (na'vi don't), and their neural queues are at the base of their skull rather than higher on the back of the head like Na'vi
@@GWNorth-db8vn true. But the name was appropriated by the internet and video gaming industry as anything that represents the user in a game or online.
Since I was too young to see this in the cinema (6 years old), I went and saw the re-release in 3D right before the sequel came out, and it was amazing, it’s insane how much CGI they used for this, and for 2009, it still looks incredibly real.
I don't get the hate people hate for Avatar. Like, it's become normal to dunk on it, but despite the simple storytelling, the story itself is not bad. I kinda like it, because it shows how an empty person can find meaning in a new way of life. The Na'vi life gave Jake a second chance in more ways than one. People who say that Jake betrayed his own species overlook that the story of Jake is not just about the survival of humanity, but about a man looking for healing and purpose after suffering the death of the closest person to him (the movie didn't dive deeply into Jake's connection to his twin, but even if the two of them went their separate paths in life, twins, especially identical twins, share a really close connection. I wish the movie showed Jake struggling with his grief, just like how the movie didn't show how Neytiri was suffering the loss of her own sister. This could have made both characters feel much deeper and relatable). Aside from characters though, the visual effects bring this movie to life. The motion capture is top notch, and still hold up so well over 10 years later.
"Jake betrayed his own species" is wrong on so many levels. He betrayed the RDA and he wasn't the only human to do so. He joined the Navi who are actually not against humans. They tried to save Grace, they allowed some humans to stay in their planet. They fought to protect their home and had nothing against the humans that were not a threat to them. He may have became a Navi full time and decided to live among them but that's no different from someone choosing a more simple way of life. For example if someone decided to get rid of all their technology and live among nature. If he was going to remain there full time then it was a very practical decision to stay in a body that could walk and breathe safely there
One of the best movies ever. It's good to feel emotions when watching this movie, don't worry. James Cameron is a huge nature guy, this was a major passion project for him. It's too bad your copy didn't have Navi subtitles, you can usually see what they are saying in Navi (sometimes at least)
@@nsasupporter7557 If you liked the first one, you will probably like the second one. Even some people who didn't like the first, seem to like the second
@@nsasupporter7557 It's worth your time for sure. I can understand some people's complaints about the writing but it's not nearly as bad as some would make you believe. Let's say it's not quite as tight as this one but the story is still very good. One thing I'll say though is Cameron knows how to do visceral action! Cuz it really kicks off at the end and you're on the edge of your seat! Definitely one to see in theatres like the 1st one. Just realized I responded to 2 of your comments lol
In the extended version of the movie, you learn more about the school that Grace had opened to teach the Na'vi English (I think it was 5 years before Jake and the others had arrived). That is why so many of the Na'vi can speak English. They learned it very quickly... They also quickly learned how greedy and evil most humans that came to Pandora for the Unobtanium can be. Neytiri's sister, Sylwanin, and several other students from Grace's school decided to attack one of the mining sites... and the military forces came to the school (where Sylwanin and the others were trying to seek safety). She and other Na'vi were gunned down in cold blood. Grace said a line in that scene, (something along the lines of) "The Na'vi learned all they needed to know about us that day." Grace's school was then abandoned and she was no longer allowed into the village. So when Jake became accepted by the tribe, he convinced Mo'at (Neytiri's mother) to allow Grace to come back and see the children she had taught. You might notice that the Avatars that Jake, Grace, and Norm "drive" have four fingers and a thumb (like a human)... The Na'vi have only have three fingers (and a thumb). To create the Avatars, they used human DNA mixed with the Na'vi DNA (likely to make it easier for the human mind to connect to the Avatar). The finger difference will become relavant in the next film... Also, this never made it into the final version of the film, but Norm and Trudy had a relationship... and that was also part of the reason that Norm started being friendly to Jake again.
Yes! If you didn’t see this in the theater then you really missed out. There’s really no point in seeing it if you didn’t see it in the theater because it’s just not the same
@@nsasupporter7557 i disagree, my first time watching it was in the theater in 3d and it was horrible my eyes and head were hurting and by the end of the movie it made me feel very tired, thanksfully i gave it another chance and watched it home and i loved it, 2 things first i feel much more confortable watching movies at home and the second things is i found out to avoid 3d movies
Avatar takes a lot of s**t. But it truly is one of the greatest achievements in the history of film, right up there with the original Star Wars. I've grown to love Stephen Lang ie Quaritch as the villain
It is not even close, in any respect, to Star Wars..... Like, are you serious? To even suggest such a thing shows an astonishing level of ignorance. Avatar was technologically impressive, the cgi and mocap were definitely a step forward, but Star Wars... Entire companies were created out of that film (ILM, THX and Skywalker Sound to name 3) the entire visual and special effects of that movie had to be either created from scratch or perfected. Nothing has come close to the industry changing, monumental advancement of Star Wars in 1977. Avatar was a leap forward, but by miles, not the light years that was Star Wars. The advancement in 3D tech that was the majority of Avatars "achievement" in film is now a funny little anecdote in the history of film, as the 3D fad has come and gone.
@@TahiriVeila13ABY I dont care what you say. James Cameron is a master filmmaker and George Lucas is a no-talent hack that GOT LUCKY with one idea. Cameron's movies have held up a lot better. He never felt the need to add CGI creatures to any of his projects because Cameron knows that he got it right the first time. And Star Wars wasnt that much of a leap after 2001.
27:40 this is NOT pathetic... someone that is not touched by a good yet tragic story is called a psychopath,,, so don´t ever feel sorry for tears of compassion, they just show that you are a good person....
These films get so much criticism but they’re a world to get lost in and with a great message very much aimed at everything bad we’ve done as a species to each other. It might not be subtle about it but it works for me. Visually spectacular as well. The second film takes it to a whole other level of visual splendour AND emotional heart. It’s a shame you can’t see them on a big screen in 3D, it’s a revelation.
This is why I watch reactions. You're so in touch with the story and you let in come out. I get to relive the same feelings from the first time I watched a movie.
this was absolutley mind bendingly amazing on the BIG screen.. it truly was breathtaking...the worst thing is what they do on pandora we have done and are still doing the same here on planet earth by displacing locals so that people can make money...
@@nsasupporter7557 Oh ya! watching this in 3D was an event not a movie. It was the 1st movie to use 3D properly, it felt like you were there. Which kinda messed me up a bit cuz I was looking around at the inside of the lab for instance, exploring the environment, and caught myself wondering why I couldn't see things clearly and finally realized that it's cuz the camera isn't focused on the things I was looking at hahaha Amazing and a bit frustrating all at the same time lol
I am from Brazil. People cannot forget the message the film brings. The scene where the ships are bombing and burning the mother tree and nature is exactly what is happening in forests all over the world, including the Amazon Rainforest.
Remember watching this at the cinema when it came out. The scene where RDA attack Hometree, everyone in the audience had one of two faces: tears, or anger.
34:52 James Cameron wrote the original script for Avatar right after he did Terminator 2. He waited almost 20 years for the technology needed to make the movie to be invented, and invented some of it himself such as digital 3D capture direct to a drive instead of on film. Avatar is one of the movies you really have to see in 3D, because it was FILMED in 3D, not converted, and it is literally the benchmark movie to show what a 3D movie can and should be
One of the things about the Avatar movies is that they remind me to hate the worst parts of our species. We have some noble traits but we can also be horrible, and that side of ourselves should be loathed and constantly fought against. I only wish everyone could see it in a theater. The 3D big screen effect was absolutely enchanting.
@christopherazzato7680 I agree...Avatar 3 will be visually stunning! I can't wait to see it for my 28th birthday in 2025! Still annoying they had to change the date due to the writer's strike though...
Centane ❤ I see you. Avatar films are my favourite movies of all time.james Cameron is a genius. Zoe Saldana loves being Blue or Green in her movies lol😂
It looks like whatever version you’re watching doesn’t have subtitles for the Navi speech, hopefully you can find a way to watch Avatar 2 with those subtitles.
This is like a recreation of what happened between Western civilization and the Native Americans, the Aborigines of Australia, The Maori of New Zealand and pretty much every clash of tribal people to modern civilization. I think the making of this movie was brilliant. People need to not forget what we have always done when the more advanced meets the less advanced.
And it drives me crazy when people watch these movies or play the new game and go “the humans are always the bad guys.” Well yeah, historically we are.
Q: What is the point of having a film reaction channel? A: Showing your emotions! Letting the film and the characters make you laugh, cry, get mad, feel love..... We, the audience, are supposed to be emotionally affected by good story telling and film making. Why else do we go see films?
grew up watching it and love it was also first 3d movie parents took me to see when it first came out which was rare cause family didn't have a lot of money at the time so it was very special then Oct 14 2022 i got my family tickets to go see the re release in 3d again and i paid for tickets for December 16 to go see Avatar 2 in 3d and we all loved it and love both the first and second one and can't wait for 2024 for the third movie to come out
Kamilla, if you want to see a 19th century American version of Avatar, watch “Dances With Wolves” starring Kevin Costner. A great film about a U.S. soldier who befriends a native tribe out on the Great Plains. It won Best Picture at the Academy Awards. You will need lots of tissues!
Really loving your content output these past few days. I'm also watching your spider-man 2 playthrough and Avatar is one of my favourite franchises out there as well. I feel like I should add some context that isn't in the movies about tsutey here 16:00. Tsutey HATES humans because his one true love was killed by humans, ie Neytiri's big sister Sylwanin. But the movies don't really explore that it was only in some comic books.
This is probably my fav reaction video from you I am here for your emotional connections to these movies never knock the fact that you are so emotionally available.
I'm 23 and remember seeing this film when it came out. Remember that lump in my throat as a kid. Think we either saw it either in cinemas or on dvd. And I went and saw Avatar 2 when that came out not long ago.
Emotions are never pathetic. In my opinion it takes strength to dare be emotional in the world we live in. IMHO not showing emotion is pathetic. You're doing great.
Jake got injured while beeing a Marine. In the uncut version that you can find online you see how he lives. You can see also how humanity lives... completely different from the Na'Vi on Pandora. i like that version more then this. Also, Maria Rodrigues is one ofthe most bad ass female actressess out there ^^
Kamilla, so glad!..you're doing this amazing film!.. I saw it in theatre when it was released in 3D...Imagine that...this amazing spectacle in big screen 3D..! (wish that trend continued) well that's what James Cameron wanted and intended back in 2009... Well it was totally awesome as u probably guess... Glad you're lighting it up as well...
Avatar was a visual masterpiece with a good story. I liked it. The story may have been unoriginal, but it was still good. I did not like Avatar 2 at all. It was way too long, the scenes were redundant and the dialogue was poor.
I remember how Cameron's efforts gave me like so many that 'feeling' when it released. Kinda like hearing Mozart for the first time, you just wanted to check it out again. It was new and the closest thing to dive into after the Lord of the Rings immersion. I always enjoy Grace's comment even though it's understood in retrospect: "Don't play with that. You'll go blind..."
I couldnt tell if the download/copy you watched had translations for the Na'vi, but there was supposed to be subtitles. If your going to watch the second one, make sure you have one with subtitles. Also one thing to mention, the big Ikran, he chose Jake. Like how Eywa chose Jake when he first met Neyteri. We know this because Jake was "Toruk Macto", as it was foreshadowing what happens at the end. As Neyteri tells the story about her great grandfather, how he brought all the clans together during a time of great sorrows. Just like how Jake did. Also, how Neyteri told Jake how he would know if the Ikran chose him, and she said, "He will try to kill you". Just like how the Big Ikran tried to kill Jake, and if you look back, he only tries to "kill/bite" Jake.
When this movie came out it was my favourite movie during my times in the hospital trying to figure out what was wrong with me at the time this movie helped me get through it all
You would really like the director's cut! It gives a few scenes or so of Dr Augustine and explains more of her background with the children and the school.
If you were to watch the full extension it shows a bit of more story on the characters in some bits that were actually fully rendered and run in the movie but they were just taken out
My first time watching avatar I wasn't understanding enough of Neytri's response to losing her father and her environment being damaged so as a result taking it out on Jake when that was fair since it was him finding nyteri and exploring their community that led the destruction to them. And the fact that the entire movie is cgi and every navi/avatars movements came from the actors physically acting in motion suits to bring the characters to life which is intriguing
If You liked Avatar, You should definitely watch another movie from Cameron - Alita: Battle Angel. It is a cyberpunk film, based on a manga, script by Cameron and directed by Robert Rodriguez.
It's a simple story taken to a revolutionary visual status (at the time, and even now if we're being real). The characters are fun, the world is cool, and it holds up well.
Neytiri so materialistic, taking Jake back when he returns with a better ride. That’s like ya gf dumping you when you drive a Vauxhall corsa, but taking you back when you pull up in a Lambo.
It’s funny how this was the highest grossing film of all time in the box office, then was passed by avengers endgame, but then was re-released in theaters to then re-past endgame lol
It's not that Humans are terrible. Sulley is a human. And Princess's boyfriend isn't a human, yet displays all the negativity of his 'enemy'. It's a different struggle and it's time we saw that.
"Converting the mine" is much deeper than you know. :) Also, it is very nice to see a pure viewing of this 🎥📽️ without all of the negative BS from the haters.
every time I watch avatar it gives me some kind if mild depression when I just wish I lived in a world they do, living simple life, full of down to earth people with their goddes actually being a real hive mind creature.
I recommend watching We Were Soldiers. My grandfather fought in Vietnam and he was deployed shorty after the real life events that were inspired by the movie. And he said it was accurate when he saw it in theaters
Conservatively I've seen 400 movies at the cinema, this is the only one I ever went to see more than once, I went three times. The awe factor was somewhat diminished with the sequel, most big budget CGI effects have caught up after all. It was still an amazing follow-up. Cameron's reasoning for the story is that he realized that he can spend a lifetime working on nature conservation and never do as much good as these movies are doing, reminding us that no matter how technological we get as a species, earth is still what keeps us all alive in the end.
I so enjoy watching your reactions , you use about twenty percent of the scene for your self , and leave eighty percent for the movie ,unlike others who my opinion are full of them self s . Its nice .good luck with your studies .
29:30 - I know it may be all too easy to get wrapped up in this, but if someone came at you with a spear and you had a gun, I'd expect you to use your gun. It doesn't matter who you are or whose side you're on: in a fight to the death you do everything in your power to survive and slay the other party. As an extension of that, in a war you should never look for opportunities to increase the number of casualties on your own side. Resolving conflict through "violence" pretty much by definition involves using all of one's advantages to "overcome" the other party like an obstacle rather than trying to work together in any "fair" way. To accept this isn't to accept violence but merely to accept that violence _is_ violence.
