This is a book series originally. It's all detailed on Wikipedia but if you want to avoid spoilers; Matt Damon has done 4 movies, Jeremy Renner has done one, there is also Threadstone, a one season TV-show. Damon confirmed this year that he is planning to do another one. Prior to this there was a direct to TV movie in 1988. The TV show Hanna has no official connection to Bourne but with a single word of dialogue it would fit in perfectly. There were three novels in the 1980s by the original author and after this movie came out there have been like 15 more books by other writers.
@Cbcw76

Have you read the other books? Is it a worthy 'series' to read? I finally found a copy of the Richard Chamberlain film. Fun enough. I enjoy the Jeremy Renner film... it solidifies the concept that this was a "program" - and in this first film, we see at least two other assassins, only one of which was killed. Gee - I wonder what happened to the killer who silenced Mr. Treadstone in the dark street at the end?
@AICW
@AICW 2 месяца назад

These movies are from a book series of at least 10 books. The books are set in the 70s so the films are updated. There are 5 of them: The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Ultimatum, The Bourne Legacy, and Jason Bourne. All except Legacy star Matt Damon and the first three are tremendous. Jason Bourne, IMO, is a B movie. Legacy, starring Jeremy Renner and Rachel Weisz is very good. It tells some on the history of the program. You should definitely watch all five. Great one today!

Great film. The guy from Trust - also Sin City. Many have mentioned Bourne came from a book series. They haven't mentioned the books bear very little resemblance to the movies, beyond the character Jason Bourne. Some things, like locations, which are seen in passing in the film, are set places in the books, but the characters are all different, or non-existent. Some ideas for scenes are derived from the book - for instance Bourne, in the book, has flashbacks of his own 2 children who were killed by government hit men, which ties to the scene where he is found staring down at the two children as they sleep, and his memory of the children on the boat... but nothing further - he lost 2 kids in the book, two kids appear in the movie scenes - that's it. Dry, but interesting books, but awesome movies.

Jason Bourne initially worked for the CIA as a highly trained operative. He was part of a clandestine program called Treadstone, which focused on training and deploying elite agents for covert operations. However, Bourne's memory loss and subsequent journey of self-discovery lead him to question his loyalty to the agency and uncover unsettling truths about his past and the nature of the operations he was involved in. Throughout the series, Bourne's relationship with the CIA is complex and often adversarial as he navigates the murky world of espionage and seeks to uncover the secrets that haunt him. I hope this helps. You are gone love the whole series (only part 4 is different actor)

I do really love all of the Bourne movies. I like how the fight scenes have such a practical feel to them. It's like Jason is so quick and efficient and practical. If he needs a weapon, he picks up a pen or a book or whatever is nearby, and is still really effective with it. It shows his adaptive skill. Some of the fans are really strongly opinionated in saying that it is ONLY a trilogy, and they seem to hate the other movies that aren't part of the main trilogy, but I like them all. There is one that stars Jeremy Renner as another operative instead of Matt Damon, and it's like deeper into the background of the program that they are a part of. There is something that may get bothersome. Some of the later movies go too far in the "shaky cam" filming style, to where it just about gives some people motion sickness trying to watch it. I know it's a style choice to try to convey moving with the action, but it can get hard to watch when it's overused.

"Jason Bourne" with Matt Damon (2016) The 4th movie was an attempt to expand the Bourne-universe to other agents. The idea was great, but the script and essense of the story was just too stupid and weak. I really liked Jeremy Renner´s performance though, which saved the movie. What's funny is that during this movie many people complain about the shaky cam, the blurry picture moving around too much. But instead, you're upset about a camera freezing and not showing enough movement. LOL

people didn't complain about the shaky cam in this one, they complained about it in paul greengrass' sequels.... and rightfully so, those were a cinematographer's nightmare

Matt is fantastic in these. Good story lines, action, etc. There is no reason to watch the one Matt's not in, but the last one is good and brings it to the series conclusion.

I've read the novels that these films are derived from. I personally wish they had just not associated the movies with Jason Bourne at all, just made it an entirely new IP all to its own. The story in the novels starts in the mid 70s and takes it's plot cues from the events that were happening then. Ludlum himself felt like the story had to be updated to actually it in theaters when it was released. In the novel, Bourne is a skilled blackops officer but he wasn't technically an assassin. Treadstone in the novels was a highly covert operation whose mission was to take down a real life assassin named Carlos the Jackal (in real life, CtJ was captured in Sudan by french intelligence operatives and imprisoned in 1994. He actually represented himself in court and failed badly. He is imprisoned for three life sentences with NO possibility of parole). The idea was that Bourne would take credit for attacks that he didn't perform to try and goad Carlos into making a mistake because of his own ego. Robert Ludlum (the author of the novels) realized that the story in the 70's was not going to resonate with people in the early 2000s so they changed it up. I enjoy the trilogy, the others are MEH at best. I am very much looking forward to you watching the next two, Kamilla!

This movie and you fit so well. Some will say the movies keep getting better, but now that verdict is up to you. You were fantastic to watch in this one so I expect the same in the next two, and this was also a great YT edit!

Bourne trilogy is awesome. What I liked about the Bourne series is the fighting scenes and the fighting techniques used by Bourne, which I believe is a mixture of various martial arts like krav maga, brazilian jiu jitsu etc, but mostly Kali, a traditional Filipino martial arts. Kali technique may or may not look fancy but it's highly effective against real world threats such as knives, poles, batons/sticks, other melee weapons (I think some added dealing with guns too). You might love the fighting scenes more in the 2nd & 3rd films, Bourne Supremacy & Bourne Ultimatum. Also didn't expect u to get jumped in this film, especially not more than once, given how I've seen that u never or barely jumped in jumpscare/shock scenes in previous movies lol.

Great movie, great reaction! This is a modern classic, redefining the spy-action-thriller genre. Matt Damon is fantastic and the perfect man for the franchise. One of my favorites.

Bourne Identity, Bourne Supremacy and Bourne Ultimatum is the original trilogy. in that order. there are 2 other newer 1s, but I haven't seen them and I don't think they follow the same story.

This movie did for action films what Jurassic Park did for CGI. You wouldn’t have John Wick, Taken, or Daniel Craig’s James Bond without Jason Bourne first changing the game.

The MINI made it's comeback with the movie THE ITALIAN JOB with Mark Wahlburg, Ed Norton, and Charlize Theron. This movie came out before hand, showcasing a cool, old, 25 year old Mini, but within another 18 months, The italian Job showcased the mini as a supercar.

It's fun to watch the original Bourne Identity (with Richard Chamberlain) to see all the changes made due to the technological advances since the book (1980). The story there feels more like a detective brain work - not only does he suffer from brain loss but he can't just check stuff on the internet either. Neither can people at the agency. This is not to say that I don't enjoy Matt Damon movies or him in the role. I think it's a great job of double adaptation (to screen and to time). But I'm old enough to have fallen in love with the book first, and then to see Chamberlain in the role next, and to be very cautious about deciding to watch Matt last (and feel no disillusionment).

Nice reactions. There was a TV Miniseries during the late 80s titled "The Bourne Identity" starring Richard Chamberlain (same guy as the original Blackthorne in the 80s "Shogun) and Jaclyn Smith. Just FYI (I know, this shows my age) My wife and I enjoyed watching it- it was also a good version- it's a little dated, however.

If you guys will humor me, I wanna get personal. It's a strange thing, and it's practically a cliche at this point, but when I saw this film at a young age, I felt seen. LOL of course I thrilled at the fantasy of being a SUPER COOL SECRET ASSASSIN. But that's not why the movie stuck with me. I was used to action/spy films being light on character and heavy on badassery. This film kind of hit me in the gut with its light touch, melancholy soundtrack, and its strong emphasis on identity as a core theme. It had a gentler love story as well - it wasn't just about being sexy. When you grow up in a household that doesn't seem to care what you do, aside from following the rules, or when you live in a society that doesn't seem to give a shit about you, only that you serve in some useful way, but offers little in the way of encouragement or moral guidance...and with a dash of I guess "neurodivergence", it can be hard to formulate your identity. I've always been a quick learner and open minded, but could never stay in one place for long, could never put my foot down on things like other people seemed to. I always felt like I had no idea who I was supposed to be. It was great that so many things came easily to me, but that wasn't enough. I wanted to know who I was supposed to be. I wanted to fit. I wanted a place in the world, but it just never seemed to materialize, no matter how much I explored or learned or asked. All the things that people seemed to find a foothold in and say "This is definitely me", they just seemed to slip through my fingers. Also I've always been hypervigilant, and could never understand why (until recently). So while I wasn't memorizing license plates, I always liked to check exits, sit with my back to the wall, be extra cautious with strangers, etc. Anyway, the opening scenes of this movie in particular just hit me in a way no other movie had at the time. Bourne's constant questioning who he is, constant frustration at being able to do all kinds of useful things but not even knowing his own name...that shot with Bourne on the train, where he's literally staring at his own reflection, meditating, hoping an answer will come...that always spoke to me, and its why the movie and the trilogy overall has a special place in my heart. "Look at us. Look at what they make you give." I wasn't in the service (though many say I come off that way), but I always felt like there were these impossible demands put on me, and I had no other recourse but to just obey to the best of my ability. That line really gets at the heart of what America has become to so many: a soul-crushing machine clothed in an ideal, that often leans on its young men for far too much, too soon and too often - and increasingly for no good reason but the profits and power of an elite. It also doesn't help that to many, men are just villains and made to feel like they've done something terrible when all they've done is tried to do the best they could. Not to say America isn't worth the trouble - or service to anyone's homeland for that matter. And for sure, some men really are villains. Just saying: it's hard when you have no personal guide in your life, to explain why things are the way they are. It's a punishing way to live, constantly searching for who you're supposed to be but getting no real answers, and in some cases: outright lies. I always tell people there's more to this movie than many think. Maybe it's not some Oscar-bait "tour-de-force", but the writers and director really made an effort to ensure this was more than just some cheap spy thriller. It really does have something to say, and the trend continues in the next two movies. And yes...its a banger of a spy flick. The mini chase in this movie? Still one of the coolest car chases in a film, imo. And the final duel at the end with Clive Owen's character is so simple and direct - it's not flashy and extravagant - and really showcases Bourne's resourcefulness, a trait I always appreciate. A guy comes at him with a knife, and he grabs a ball-point pen and WINS. That's fuckin' cool. Also this movie really showed me how rich Europe is in culture, history, architecture, language, etc., and ever since I've always wanted to visit. Maybe someday. ANYWAY enough about me. I really just wanted to sing this movie's praises, because I feel like it's underrated and actually means a lot to me. I love watching people react to this for the first time. :) Looking forward to the next two.
