True he is an amazing guitarist. However sometime a lead guitar sacrifice to much of his tone for the bend of the notes making the guitar sound a be off.
Syn is a fantastic singer. He doesn't get enough praise, but those high notes he was hitting, harmonizing PERFECTLY with Matt, shows true talent. Like this if you would love to hear Syn sing his own song. He's earned it.

He has his acoustics set up pretty similar to his electrics. Similar strings, action, etc. So it really isn't all that different from him playing it on electric. That's also why he's quite a bit quieter in the mix too. Acoustics need heavier strings, higher action and everything to be louder.
Yes please! This performance took me by surprise, I love this song, but I never thought this one would lend itself particularly well to an acoustic version. How wrong I was!
Syn doesn't get enough love for his vocals. Don't get me wrong, M is a fuckin' beast on the mic, but Syn's backup vocals makes songs like this that much better. I seen them live in Dallas a few years ago and they did an couple of acoustic songs and I must say Syn does have a hell of a voice.
Jt Blayze That's one thing that I've always admired about him. He's a beast on guitar, but he has a great voice as well. With Matt's gravelly/raspy tone, and Brian's clear tone it just blends perfectly. I guess that's why they use him so much.
Definitely have to agree Lorz! He's fantastic, definitely one of the most talented musicians today. I know he's also played drums a bit too which makes him that much cooler haha!
He's a triple threat, haha! Another thing I admire about him is that he's also still trying to learn new things. Always trying to grow in his knowledge about music theory and willing to try different styles. He's still evolving as a musician and I find that exciting!
It really is! A lot of musicians get comfortable where they're at and/or are to afraid to grow and evolve. Seeing him steadily learn and try new things is awesome, it's one of the many things that separates him from the pack. Another musician and youtuber named Leo Moracchiol(a.k.a Frog Leap Studio's) is another one that is steadily growing and evolving. He does mostly metal covers of songs, but a lot of his songs he does solo, and he does all the editing and instrumental's for his videos and they are fantastic and very high quality. He also does videos with other musicians too and I've found a lot of new artist's to listen to through his videos!
From their Self Titled album onwards Syn Zack n Rev would sing n harmonize with Matt during the recording so they don't sound as bad live. Before it was all Matt and during concerts they didn't sound good going along with Matt. So they probably took some type of singing lessons besides Rev. They talk about it on the "making of Self Tiltled" video

I grew up on Iron Maiden, Metallica, Judah Priest, Van Halen, Ozzy, Ronnie James Dio. I'm 53 years old, I guess I'm a bit of an old metal man. The first time I heard Avenged Sevenfold I was instantly hooked, I haven't had a band grab a hold and hook me like this since Queensryche back into early 80's. Keep up the good work guys, don't ever lose what you have together.
First of all, I didn't think Syn's vocals would be this good. Second, Shadows is good at controlling volume. See how at 3:01 he moves back a little so his RIIGHHHTTS isn't too loud
It's really cool to see their smiles especially in the beginning when they hear their songs acoustically with a string section and visualize their live and admiration for what they've created. Also M. Shadows ability to control the vocal fry at a subtle volume is underrated

Bruh! The acoustic guitar solo. Epic. Also, top notch string section. And Matt's vocal power is amazing, as always. Outstanding performance. Brooks is a great fit as drummer too.
Story time: I saw Avenged Sevenfold last year for the first time. They are my all-time favorite band, and it was the greatest night of my life. I am so grateful that I’ve grown up listening to A7X, and I feel as though their music has truly shaped my musical interests and even me as a person. Thank you Matt, Brian, Johnny, Zack, Brooks, Arin, and of course Jimmy. Thank you for all that you’ve done for me and all that you’ve gotten me through. The acoustic version sounds even better than the studio version much more detailed and profound, even the vocal performance is so spotted on. I'm like a child who's listening to this song for the first time at the moment, love them so much
Papa Gates is like the dad I wish I could have. I love how he proudly looks at Syn. It's so cool. Papa Gates has contributed a lot to the band over the years. He's an amazing guitarist.
I remember listening to this and so far way performances during my breaks while i was studying, time passes so fast. Now each one of those moments are memories, memories that i'll always carry inside.
I love how clear you can actually hear Brian singing. I wish he would his own solo album of him singing and other guitar styles that we only get a peek at on the A7X records.
The people who only liked then when they screamed. 🙄 I personally never liked screamo type music so i didn't start fully listening to them until the City of Evil album. I didn't mind the mix of the vocal types like in Waking the Fallen but I much prefer his singing voice.
The crazy psrt about syns solo is that he doesn't just play the notes perfectly on the acoustic, which is already a lot more difficult, he plays the notes as freaking triads. Just to jazz it up and make it even more gorgeous. This is amazing because instead of just playing each individual note, he plays each note in a chord. Very difficult to do for those of you not initiated to musical theory or what not. Impressive vocal performance too as always from m shadows but to me its the solo that really stands out here. Oh and the violin goes so good with this song. Beautiful.
That's because Avenged Sevenfold is influenced by country music, they even have a couple of songs with country elements like Tonight The World Dies and Gunslinger
My belly hurts when I see Syn playing that guitar like it´s nothing. It feels like standing on the edge of a skyscraper rooftop. I´m not used to this hight. Mindblowing.
One of my favorite parts is Johnny in this. I’d love to know what he is thinking at 4:01 when he smiles as Syn plays the solo. Then he keeps watching Syn play at just the parts in the solo that get crazy. So great!
