I've had mine for a year now, and absolutely love it. Great for commuting and actually is nimble enough light single tracking and smooth dirt trails. Riding in levels 1and 2 maintains battery strength. Very seldom is the need for the high levels, unless you get caught in a storm, like I did last summer. Then it's time to go full bore. Highly recommend this bike. So great for the price. Did I mention that I love this bike?
I’ve had my Pace for a couple of months for commuting on some main roads with traffic moving at 40-45 mph. As I do with my road bike, I find I’m a lot safer the faster I can move with traffic so during my commute I’ll be up on that 5 PAS mode going flat out on those roads. The other part of my commute is on rail-to-trail and is good for 20-25 mph. My objective is a quick ride to and from work and this bike is perfect for that. My LCD screen cracked a tiny bit from one jolt and that’s making me consider front shocks. Considering Aventon’s 1K charge cycles on a battery, going fast is well worth the battery wear to me. The next question with my Pace is how long towards winter I can ride it. If I can make it to December I’d be really happy. It’s a great bike. That motor has some incredible torque, it’s really easy shifting up and down and I find the standard seat is surprisingly comfy. My only regret is I should have bought the step-through.
@@robjb1210 What happened? I did have one issue. I somehow blew out my charger. I kept my battery in the house all winter (I live in Kentucky) but kept the charger in the garage. I brought the charger in a few weeks ago and plugged it into the battery to top it off. I wanted to go on my first ride of the season. I plugged it in and it literally made a popping sound. Then some kind of liquid ran out. I'm guessing there was moisture in the charger, but i'm not sure. I contacted Aventon through email and got a reply in less than 24 hours. They asked for some detail, including a video, and the next thing I know, they are shipping me a new charger at no cost! I love that! I can't say enough for their customer service! It's excellent!
@@davetisee My Pace 500 came with the hydraulic back brake not working. That was in Oct. Im waiting now for a brake assembly..Hopefully that works when it arrives. Glad your experience was great, mine not so much.

Bought my Pace 500 a few months back, and I'd say this review nails it spot on. Especially in agreement with the swooped bars; I changed mine out with the Level design bars after first week of riding, and I much prefer the overall improved stability they've brought. Excellent bike with excellent value!
My Pace 500 comes in in a few days. Very excited to join the ebike wave. I'm 61 now, raced road bikes in the 70's. I have a 80's era Bianchi Trofeo. I've become a bit wary of riding it. It's much like a sports "car" type Italian racer. Now, at my age, I prefer a more casual ride, like my Continental.
I was fortunate, that a local bike shop (ATV Wholesale Outlet, near Sacramento CA.) caries the Aventon brand, including the original Pace 500 (not the new "Next Gen" model), in different sizes/colors, and frame types. Before I went there. I had all kinds of questions, about what kind of e-bike, would be right for me. My main use will be for riding on paved bike trails, with some limited use on hard packed dirt trails. I was wondering if the fat tire models were something I would like, how much power would work for me, whether to get a top bar, or step through frame, what size, and if I would like the swept back handlebars, better than straight. I quickly ruled out the fat tire models, because they were way to heavy, for me. I needed something I could lift up, when needed, and I could easily lift the Pace. Do to research online, I was already interested in the Aventon Pace 500. I was able to test drive the medium and small frames in both step through, and top bar. I am 5'7" tall, and felt much more comfortable on the small frame. I chose the top bar frame, because it felt stiffer to me, and I would be able to hang it on the bike carrier I already own. The hand grips, handle bar geometry, and location of controls, all felt perfect for me. I want to ride in a more upright position, and the Pace allowed me to do that in comfort. One thing that surprised me... there were two different, gear shift lever types, on the different Pace 500 models I tried. While both types, have their shift levers, located on the underside of the handlebars.... One type shifted up, with push of thumb, and down, with pull on index finger. The other one (I did not like at all), required you to use your thumb, to both push for shift up, and also use thumb, to push for shift down. If I had purchased without test drive first, I would not have known about this. I was impressed, by how much power it had, when using the electric motor. And equally impressed by how easy it was to pedal, without the motor on. While my intention was originally to buy on line, I can not stress enough, how important, test driving the different models was, in choosing the right one for me. So I will definitely be purchasing from the local store. Currently (March 26th 2022), at my local bike shop, in California, the price is $1600. for the old model, not the new "Next Gen" model. PS, folks at the ATV Wholesale Outlet store, were really kind/helpful, and did not treat me with condescending attitude, like I have received at some other local bike stores. In conclusion, my mind has been put to rest, now that I was able to try different e-bikes, before plunking down my hard earned cash, for one. Now I am very excited to pick up my new bike, next Tuesday 😀, and go riding on my local bike trails 🚲
I agree. ATV Wholesale in Sacramento is the best store. I've gone there three time to test ride several bikes. The staff there are very accommodating and "no pressure". Also, nice to be able to test ride the bikes in their large parking lot. I'll be making my decision this week and will probable get the second gen Pace 500.
I really enjoy your explanation and standard e-bike review where I as a viewer can compare e-bikes on an apples to apples basis. How did you find the Aventon Level compared to the Pace 500? Would be good to know.
The Aventon Pace 500 is a great bike, unfortunately the Aventon company, takes your money, then sells you months of headaches. I bought my pace 500 ebike in Oct 2021, the back brake didnt work. I have since been trying to get this resolved but to no avail, and its March 2022 now. Check out Aventons return policy before you consider buying one of these bikes. It will save you months of headaches and your money.
I’m not sure if you decided yet? I am 5’9” and prefer a large frame even though my size lis more of a medium. I ordered the Medium for my wife, and after riding 10 miles, it fits well-and I didn’t adjust anything to lengthen it. If I was the main rider, I would think about three things-less sweep back on the handlebars, a suspension seat post, and a more comfortable seat... The strainer handlebars would make even more room, so I think the medium is a good fit..so far..
Heads up for anyone looking at Aventon Paces, I don't think they're offering a choice between TAS and throttle on demand any more. I think they're all throttle on demand now. After looking at so many bikes for shorter people, I think this is the one! Those brakes really are the selling point. Safety is key. I'm getting the small step through frame.

I really like this bike, but I am going to be doing all of my riding on rail trails, which is crushed limestone. Would the Pace 500 be able to handle this?
My Mom bought an aventon Bike and i put on 1 And i tryed it in my neighborhoof and i put on one and Blasted off, i got scared and i put it on 0, also the bike is awesome
I was on the fence on purchasing this Aventon Pace 500,I just spent an hour on the Aventon website reading the reviews,starting with the 1 star reviews first working my way up,way to many complaints for my liking,so many complaints customer service is overwhelmed and taking weeks to respond if they respond at all,many unhappy customers,I do believe this is a low percent compared to the very good reviews,but I don't think I want to take that chance,it would be just my luck to get a lemon.
it's two different ways to charge the Pace Aventon 500 battery. Take the battery off the e bike there's another charge point. Tell me the name of it, if there's a generic charger for it notify me immediately ??
Am looking at 500 Pace Step through. Can i get fenders, racks or other accessories? Also, many comments on the site get petty negative about customer service.
I'm 5'7" tall, and I tried the medium, and the small, at a local bike shop. I was more comfortable on the small. (with the crossbar, not the step through model) I highly recommend test riding, at a bike shop, if that is an option for you. I did not realize how much more comfortable I would be, on the smaller bike, until I tried it. Really no substitute for in person test, before you buy.
Does anyone know what kind of maintenance needs to be performed on this hub motor? My Pace 500 is now a year old and it works great, and I want to keep it that way. Thanks!
I can't get over the seat tube angle. Coming from mountain bikes and road bikes, that laid back just seems like a bad position for any sort of efficient pedalling. Any thoughts?
The 'no power until one complete rotation of the peddles' feature is beyond annoying when you have to stop for stop signs, traffic, etc. Aventon bills this as a safety feature but it has the opposite effect, I find myself not stopping when I should be and shooting gaps I probably shouldn't be, because of it. Aventon really needs to rethink this.
They also offer throttle on demand options. We agree with you, we prefer TOD for handling different riding situations. But some people like the throttle after pedal for the peace of mind of reducing the chance of accidentally engaging the motor.
@@ElectricBikeReport Are you referring to the thumb throttle? If so, that does not work until one complete rotation of the crankset either - after a complete stop.
@@KatrinaSwaim yup saw that too and they also changed it where it doesn't start off like a rocket, they made it smoother, i just wish they made a folding step thru
@@ElectricBikeReport Mainly for fun. 80% riding on pavement and want the ability to ride it on grass amd paved trails as well. I do like the way the Level looks however i am.not certain of it is capable of riding on gravel trails etc.
Would this bike be able to handle light trails and offroad use?? Nothing crazy like jumps, but dirt roads and gravel roads. I like this bike, wish they had a bike in this frame with fat wheels. The Adventure is ugly imo.
We wouldn't recommend this bike for those purposes. However, Aventon does have a bike that is in between the Pace 500 and Aventure called the Level that is more capable than the Pace 500 for those instances as it has 75mm front suspension, more tread on the tires, and handlebars that aren't swept back. That is my big concern, as well. If someone tells me that at 6'4" tall I could ride upright with full leg extension for pedaling, I would buy it immediately.
The bike is $1600 on their site, and if you want fenders and a rack, you'll be paying a few bucks less than what the _Level_ costs. Might as well get the Level.
this bike is killer. I take it in the east foothills of san jose. handles these treacherous slopes like a boss. totally cruisin , totally a boss. This was my fathers bike but his old ass fell off it twice and my mom said no way jose. And now its my bike because he is an old fool. Yes !
Does the bike come with a key? So it can't get stolen when your popping into the store real quick. I know that's what bike locks are for but the key would be easier
It does have a key, but you'll still want a bike lock. Somebody could still ride off with it and ride like like a standard bicycle even if they can't turn on the motor. Bike theft is unfortunately super common - we always recommend getting a lock if you plan on leaving your bike unattended in public.
Is there anyone who is 6'4" tall who has this bike? Can you ride upright and fully extend your legs while pedaling? I would really appreciate your reply.
Very angry that you even suggest changing the VERY comfortable handle bar design. I tried 6 different electric bicycle of various manufacturers before I bought my Pace 500 step thru SMALL frame. You forgot to mention there are multiple choices of frame sizes besides including the choice of step thru! The VERY comfortable handle bar design makes throttle only use comfortable specifically because of how your wrists are positioned. The electric bicycles with tee bar handle bars were uncomfortable position for using throttle for me. I have an Electra Townie 7 speed step thru, Raleigh atomic 13 medium aluminum frame 24 speed step thru, and Bianchi Torino aluminum 24 speed very thin tires nearly step thru small frame. I had all these bicycles to keep up to my tall husband with very strong legs who rides a Townie 3 speed and sometimes his 7 speed pedal only. The Aventon Pace is my first electric bicycle purchase and I am totally pleased. My hands would get numb riding my other pedal only bicycles no matter how many adjustments were tried. I am a small retirement age female so I definitely want the small frame size with step thru. No more of that throwing leg over the seat for years now! I can easily ride my Aventon Pace 500 for 10 miles and feel like I could ride 10 more with no difficulty. I have been riding in heat and humidity making feels like temperature 110 degrees F in Florida during noon time sun and barely sweating. Only problem have been hitting at speed I never before could bicycle those late afternoon swarms of gnats! Thinking of getting full face shield for dealing with these unbelievable swarms of gnats. Now that I have my electric bicycle my husband is going to purchase one of the faster pedal only bicycles with at least 21 speeds because I will be able to keep up with my Celeste robin egg blue Aventon Pace 500! That is unless he decides he wants the Pace 500 in the large size frame.
I agree with what you said, but it is a matter of personal preference. I encourage folks to modify their gear, to personalize it, and make it more fun/comfortable for themselves.
The Pace 500 now costs $1600. I assume that's because they now come standard with "Throttle On-Demand", which before was a $180 upgrade for parts only (labor not included).
Even once they made TOD standard the price was still $1,400. Likely had to increase due to shipping, demand/price increase for parts, etc. The industry trend has a lot of price increases going on right now, sadly.
