@@AvenueX123 Unfortunately. Because I think jewelry is very interesting and it is linked to hairstyle. Maybe some words about jewelry and symbols of it. For example when getting engaged you get a bangle from the man? Not a ring?

Each dynasty does have a different fashion sense that has its goods and bads however I favor the Han Dynasty's clothing a lot more. I just think it looks more nice and clean cut. Long and loose dynasty clothing can be good too but too bothersome when you move. I would try all of them out but I prefer to mainly buy the hanfu from the Han Dynasty.

Hanfu is truly amazing. I'm not Chinese but I wear Hanfu at times and the variations in it is just so great. I like the casual hanyuansu too. Hanfu is timeless. So many great clothing styles around the world, with rich history and interesting creation of the garment. Thanks for making this video. Hope more people become interested in Hanfu. Taobao has a lot of Hanfu for anyone interested. The amount is mind blowing.

Very interesting video....To a non-Chinese person, it really doesn't matter which traditional Chinese style that Chinese wear as long as it is a traditional style, I think. Each is unique and pretty, and whenever you wear it, you may feel and think of your culture, heritage, ancestors, etc. Having a sense of pride of a nation and tradition is a good thing. I think it's all good.

I sure going to buy it next time in Taobao :)
@Marina.F3918
@Marina.F3918 4 года назад
I agree but I also must add as a Japanese person. Yukata is not traditional, it is a modernized version which is much easier to wear. If you try a kimono it is sooo much more difficult to wear. people get certicificates for just being able to put a kimono on properly.
@may-ky6jl
@may-ky6jl Год назад
My relations wears kimono regularly. I only saw my grandmother worn a western dress once. My mum and anties wears a few times a week. My dad wears every day at home. He says it is very relaxing. They all dress up themselves in 10 mins. They do not have any certificates to do that. Just getting use to it. My mum cooks and clean the house in kimono without any difficulty. Yukata is normally for home after having a bath before you are going to bed or just neighboring visit. It is a very casual clothing, not even going to shopping in a town centre.

Nice topic, and a nice change in pace! I started watching historical C-dramas in December 2016. The costume designs varied from show to show. I am curious what you think of the Lost Love in Times designs; the male characters' costumes. Perhaps you could do a fashion review of the drama, after it ends.

those are mostly "designed" so they are not really true to any historical period, 95% of C drama costume (period drama) are of imagined version rather than actual historical version

It's such a pity that you can't really wear the hanfu as a normal practice in mainland China like the Koreans and Japanese do. My Han grandparents grew up after the Qing, the traditional clothing styles they put us when we were younger were from Qing. I would be dressed in QiPao (still very pretty) and my cousin will have the male ponytails. During Lunar Years I see many kids wearing Qing clothing. I always want to wear HanFu as a kid so I went to a costume place, they didn’t have HanFu, they had a Hanbok and didn’t know the difference.. I’m so glad people are revisiting the culture :)

@adaada4523
@adaada4523 Год назад
@BKang Koreans, Goguryeo is not South Korea. In addition, Goguryeo at that time followed Chinese costumes. Also, Chinese Ming Dynasty costumes were influenced by Mongolia, not Koreans. Why do Koreans like to claim the origin so much? South Korea's Hanbok imitated China's Ming Dynasty, not China's imitation of South Korea. What is South Korea's purpose of spreading rumors to the world? Because they don't have their own culture, can they only steal Chinese and Japanese culture?
@adaada4523
@adaada4523 Год назад
@BKang Please do not spread rumors and hatred under the Hanfu video. Koreans only need to go abroad to read the history books of other countries to know the truth. Korean history books are different from those in the world. In order to monopolize Chinese culture, fabricate stories and spread lies. Besides, speaking of theft, why do Koreans call the clothes given to you by the Chinese emperor Hanbok?
@adaada4523
@adaada4523 Год назад
@BKang Regarding Chinese history, Chinese history books are the same as those of the whole world. Regarding Korean history, Korean history books are different from the whole world. Your hatred of the Chinese government has made you no longer aware of right and wrong. South Korea claims to be a Korean civilization, with 5,000 years history, Both Chinese and Japanese cultures originated in Korea, but the fact is that most of the so-called Korean culture in Korea comes from foreign countries. They have never been independent since ancient times. They tamper with history just to satisfy their self-esteem and overcome their inferiority complex.🤣

Thank you for such a lovely video. I love hanfu so much. To me the Tang dynasty fashions are comparable to the Boho Chic of today. The colors & patterns mixed together say how international the culture was. I was a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) back in the 70's & 80's. I enjoyed wearing "garb", i.e. medieval or Elizabethan clothes to events. Once a year, I went to Pennsic War & shopped (or commissioned) the merchants new clothes. Some I wore to Halloween at work, besides events. One sent of garb was a Manchu set, so comfortable (not court clothes). A hanfu clothier would do very well at Pennsic I think. Besides selling clothes, also as a lecturer on hanfu in classes with demonstrations of how to wear, would be welcome. There is a lot of videos on RU-vid about the Pennsic War. Keep up the good work.

Anybody familiar with Shaw Brother movies has a good though not perfectly historically correct impression about the difference between Han chinese and Qing aka Mandshu aka Mongol invaders. Always remember the moment I saw the original Peking Opera ensamble from Beijing and showed up with my simple sort-of-traditional Tai-Chi dress ... grabbing some autographs from the main actors. I guess noone on that evening understood what an honor that was due to the general German who shows up at cultural events doesn't have a clue but only goes there because ... it's so cultural. The female chinese owner of my favorite chinese shop and her German husband (military) and I had a great time!

Very well done - the Ming and Tang dynasty pieces were beautiful. Really loved the fabric you had on to make the video -- and the lavendar piece. I am envious of some of the fabrics used but not envious of the length of skirts or sleeves. The clothes appear to be very uncomfortable. Some of the Chinese dramas have reproductions of the most magnificent fashion designs -- are they just the director's imagination for effect or an exaggeration for artisic effect?
@AvenueX123
@AvenueX123 7 лет назад
most of historical drama you see out of China have "imagined" costumes that are far from reality. The ones I've shown in the video are close enough to history, they are not uncomfortable, but inconvenient for sure

Due to the limit of the technology, some patterns and colors are just impossible to produce at the time, at least not possible to be made available for common people. We still don't know enough about ancient Chinese textile in general, and costumes in particular, because textile artifacts are degraded over thousands of years. I remember a renowned archaeologist on Chinese textile said that the chance to recover a textile artifact is 1 of 1000 compare to other artifacts like statues, ceramics, or even paintings. Most fabric they recover from 2000 years ago are coffin covers hidden between different layers of the coffin (ancient Chinese coffins tend to have multiple layers).

Most Korean historical TV series are based on the theme of ancient Chinese managers ( ancient korean king) and Chinese nobles on the ancient Korean Peninsula. It is just that Koreans say that this is Korean ethnic history. Historically, the ancient Korean Peninsula was one of the areas where Chinese territory and governance were more than 2000 years ago (the ancestors of Koreans have always lived in a small place at the southernmost part of the peninsula). " Korean characters" was invented by ancient Chinese officials ( king who living in ancient Korea 朝鮮, one city of ancient China). In order to better use slaves. Invented Korean characters in order to use slaves. Slaves speak Korean language. Chinese characters can only be used by Chinese. In ancient . Koreans are prohibited from using Chinese characters and learn Chinese characters. The grammar of Chinese characters is completely unsuitable for Korean language. And Chinese characters can be used by Chinese in different dialects in various regions in China. This is also a national secret in ancient China. It is impossible to teach non -Han people (ancient Chinese). -------------------------------------- 1910. Japan has swallowed Korea. The Japanese believe that some of the low -level Korean traditional culture and primitive (women expose their nipples and transport things on their heads) are very primitive and backward. The Japanese banned Korean women from exposing the nipples (the traditional Korean costume. Hanbok). The Korean people strongly resisted. Koreans believe that this is a traditional culture of Korea. They insist on retention. In the Korean capital city. As long as the Japanese see those Korean women who show their nipples, they will give them penalties and slaps. After that, the Korean capital city gradually reduces Korean women's nipples. They cover the nipples with a piece of cloth. (But in the place where there are fewer Japanese soldiers. Korean women still maintain the traditional culture that exposes nipples). Until 1950, Westerners were still taking photos in Korea. A photo of Korean women showing nipples on the street (traditional Korean clothing). In 1970, this kind of Korean traditional culture disappeared completely. ------------------------------ Historically, Korean women's clothes show their nipples (about 11 years old. After they get married and have children), until they are old, they use their heads to transport things (and the original culture of Africa). * Ancient Korean traditional costumes are pure white (the Korean people have been known as the "White clothes ethnic" since ancient times), and women's clothes are exposed their nipples (the Korean people show their nipples to represent the beauty). This reflects the ancient Korean people and thoughts. --------------------------------------- Writing history is the tradition and habit of the ancient Chinese. The history of the ancient Korean Peninsula was written by classical Chinese. This was read for the Chinese and must be approved for the Chinese emperor. This is a record and governance story of Chinese officials and nobles on the ancient Korean Peninsula. In the ancient Korean Peninsula. It was two different ethnic groups. Chinese (Han Ethnic) and Korean (White Clothes Ethnic) Ruler and nobleman (Goguryeo , Baekje, Silla , Goryeo, Joseon ..): Chinese local officials and nobles (royal members, monks, scholars, soldiers, architects, technicians, and their families ...). They are Chinese (Han) and their descendants born in the local area. They have always wore China in China costumes. They speak Chinese language (official and Han dialect) and Chinese characters. They are Chinese officials and represent the Chinese emperor's governance of the ancient Korean Peninsula (朝鮮). Civilians and slaves (Goryeo, Joseon ..only appeared in history after the 13th century): Civilians and slaves are indigenous Koreans (White Clothes Ethnic). They speak Korean language. Long -term banned learning and use of Chinese characters (except a few descendants of mixed with Chinese people). They can only use Korean characters (after the 15th century. Chinese officials and scholars who settled on the Peninsula. Use Chinese characters and Korean language to create "Korean characters".).). ------------------------- Before 1930, the official language and text of the ancient Korean Peninsula were also Chinese. After 1950, Korean language and Korean characters became official languages and characters. Korea has become only more than 70 years of independent countries. * ancient Korean Peninsula = 朝鮮 in Chinese history * today korea = 韓國 in Chinese

madam from the historical drama there is half shaved and long ponitals hair style of Chinese man.from which period or dynasty introduced that kind of hairstyle? and playing polo as fun and political game also. I am from a state of India (Manipur)bordering Burma our state game is polo .according to chronicles ,polo was played and used as fun and diplomatic by former kings.historically during 33ad.a Prince from south east or may be from a part of China reached here and reigned in Manipur .the formed of his dynasty is the only rulers of our land until it is merged in India .there are many similar words with Chinese language with our language

Really loved this post, so interesting! It's really a shame that the Chinese don't wear a "national" costume like the Japanese or Koreans! So where does the "cheong sam" fit in? It seems whenever there's a Chinese occasion, ladies wear that🤔 BTW, I've always wondered about those sleeves that can hold stuff -- how does it feel. Have you tried putting stuff in your sleeves?😝

modern cheongsams have a relatively short history of about 100 years. They derived from Manchu robes and tight-fitting western dresses.

There is too much variant of hanfu to make a national clothing. I mean tang dynasty hanfu tooks very different from ming dynasty hanfu despite both dynasty being rule by the han.

Historical artifacts don't really show pockets in the sleeves, I can only guess it's a modern imagination. ancient costume often comes with money pockets people wear on their waist belt. I don't see how sleeves can hold anything heavier than a few piece of papers

Every costume wore by the Han can be representative. Even the qipao. Qipao was influenced by both manchu and west, but it was created by the Han people. I personally love the Ming Dynasty's fashion.

You dont have a short neck. Pull your hair up. That will enlongate it. Btw, you remind me of the girl from the video: "100 years of beauty, China." At first, I thought you were her.

I would wear one, but modify the sleeves, length and wear harem pants underneath. Perhaps more of a peasant’s style so I can get things done. Also out of batik, or East Indian fabrics.
