If you hear him talking he’s actually not even a tenor. He’s a baritone but developed this incredible skill. He uses a perfect mixer voice register and is able project it so loud and with incredible precision. Every time

It's easy to sing a song while the record is playing and sound good well, providing that you can sing. But when the song is over, and just the music is playing and you have to make it your own, that's where the challenge comes in. This young man can without a doubt sing. (Bravo)

He DID NOT outdo Whitney. Avery added runs because he was struggling staying up there for an extended period of time. This is quite common for people with more flexible voices. The singer Jessie J does the same thing. Many times, they have to approach certain notes, using vocal acrobatics, and hope they can sustain it.
