for the question about sound cards, all cards (vga, modem, controller,) have gold plating on the connecting fingers not much but if you have the material and spare time go for it.

To strip the gold off the fingers. i took my heavy duty soldering iron, modified the tip to a sharp edge using a small metal file. Let it heat up and run the tip along the finger ridge-line. melts them off like butter. Save all the boards,then put them in an acid wash to recover all the gold.

it has been cleared up thought that the original manufacture run of the pentium pros had approx. 1 gram of gold in it but the majority of after the initial design was brought down to .5 gram on average

@douglasdeckner7646
@douglasdeckner7646 9 лет назад
The local dump for one. Putting up notices at the grocery store. Business cards, they are cheap. Advise people that you will destroy the hard drive as they watch. With the right tools it doesn't take that long. The reason I said the dump was because I've seen people taking people taking pickup truck loads of computers to the dump. I offered to buy them on the spot, but, they were so worried that I would steal info off them that they would not sell them. Get cheap business card and hand the out to everyone you meet. If they have solid waste pickup in your area, drive thru the neighborhood before pickup time. Remember, everything is gold if you can make a dollar off it, old TV's, driers, washers, water heaters are all worth money.

Because of this video and one other video I saw somewhere, I bought 10 of the Pentium Pro cpu's (May 2, 2014), thinking I would get a nice amount of gold out of them. You and another video claims there is approximately 2 - 3 grams of gold in each one. Not True at all. Let me explain a few things to you so you don't keep misleading people. No# 1. From all 10 Pentium Pro Ceramic cpu's you show that I processed, I recovered a total of 2.5 grams... TOTAL. No# 2. That gold on top of the cpu is NOT a gold/metal plate or cap a person thinks they can take off. That is CERAMIC with gold layered on top. Scratch that top with a file or something and watch you scratch into the ceramic. And those gold stripes on the top too, are ceramic with gold sprayed/heated on them. No# 3. You'll recover approximately 1 gram more of gold, if that, from the inside vs the pins on the outside (batches of 10 cpu's). No# 4. Each of those Pentium Pro cpu's weigh approximately 87.7 grams. I have been processing gold and silver for about 2 years now, but this was my first for these cpu's. I know the procedures and refining aspects enough to refine to .999 purity, be it gold or silver. I'm not sure if you actually refined any gold or silver from computer scrap, but your information is very misleading. I actually took a loss when I bought those 10 cpu's, all because I was relying on your words. You were 1,000% wrong on the yields of those Pentium Pro cpu's. Once I find that other video, I'm going to post this same thing there too. This is FALSE information, because you're giving people FALSE hopes on what they can REALISTICALLY recover. You'll get more gold out of RAM sticks (10 lbs worth) than you will get out of 10 of those cpu's. Oh, do you have $133.00 to send me being as though that is the loss I took? I was even settling on at least 1 gram per cpu, and I didn't come even a fraction of that. You should remove this video and redo it with truthful and REAL information and REAL YIELDS.

Red Cliff For many here this is a hobby that will ideally pay for itself. You may break even, maybe you even may gain a little, but your time is more valuable pursuing other activities. I would concentrate on collecting scrap of all sorts, and selling it, rather than attempting refining from e waste in particular, as it may prove out more profitable and a better use of your time. It is highly dangerous and these chemicals can cause major injury or death to those not experienced with LAB SAFETY PROTOCOLS or who are improperly equipped. Do you have a Fume Hood? Do you have a Gas Mask? How much Chemistry do you know? Where were you schooled? This video is a sham.. Heads up..

You want people to be informed? How about dishing up the correct information. Pentium Pros have about 0.35 to 0.5g each. They are not worth $150 each except maybe to a collector. People, don't get suckered into buying these chips thinking there are 2 or 3 grams of gold inside....You'll be sadly let down and a lot poorer.

Half a gram? You're sure? Never scraped one but I recon it has way less gold on it. Like 0.1g or close. 0.5 grams I get from... say 30 newer cpus.
@edgarsikes1805
@edgarsikes1805 9 лет назад
Pașca Alexandru pentium pros are definitely in the .3-.5 gram range. they are the highest of ceramic cpu's out there but this joker makes video showing all the wrong ways to recover or buy the materials to process. jerks like him are the ones who drove the price of pentium pro's through the damn roof. they are worth about 7 -8 dollars a piece and people sell them on fleabay for 17-30 each, the sad part is, that people are buying them
@andrewhooker6104
@andrewhooker6104 9 лет назад
edgar sikes however, the original pentium 60mhz chip can have around .5 grams of gold, making it the highest yielding cpu.
@MrEditor6000
@MrEditor6000 9 лет назад
The Pentium Pro Contains 1 gram of gold, that's a fact and recovery would be worth it if you had many of these and knew how to recovery ALL of the gold
@edgarsikes1805
@edgarsikes1805 9 лет назад
its not a fact brandon. pentium pros contain between .3 and .5 grams of gold and that is collaboration between several different refiners sharing information from refining and what methods they used to extract the gold. ie: whole cpu broken cpu, crushed to smaller proportions etc. and we all come up with the same weight results.
@MrEditor6000
@MrEditor6000 9 лет назад
Even if there were a gram in there, the process of extracting it takes waay too long to justify unless you have a bunch of them.
@edgarsikes1805
@edgarsikes1805 9 лет назад
no the extraction isnt that hard if you know what you are doing, takes approximately 30 hours a batch and most of that 30 hours is just waiting. so if you do batches of say twenty at a time you get a decent return. the hardest parts of it is the reduction. some people say smash thm some say dont. i smash all mine. try to get pieces smaller then an inch then it is just heating them in AR and letting the reaction finish. let it cool pour off the AR with gold in solution into a second beaker with about eight-ten ice cubes made from distilled water to drive out silver chloride. and a couple drops of sulfuric to precipitate lead chloride. then after it has cooled filter off the Pb/AgCl and neutralize with urea. after it is fully neutralized add a teaspoon or two of sodium metabisulfite stir and allow to settle 16+ hours then before you drain test with stannous chloride to make sure you dropped all the gold. all done
@edgarsikes1805
@edgarsikes1805 9 лет назад
and he forgot to mention the MCC's have silver on the ends so they need to be soaked in nitric before crushing and dissolving the palladium out with AR
@24kGoldenRocket
@24kGoldenRocket 9 лет назад
edgar sikes If you throw the entire RAM Board into AP (Muriatic Acid-Hydrogen Peroxide) solution then you can liberate both the IC Chips and the MLCCs from the RAM board, along with the Gold Plating on the RAM board chemically. This is actually more direct and saves precious time. Of course I will still cut the fingers from the RAM boards and process that separately in another batch of AP. I am not that ballsy yet. But after I have built up enough confidence I will be. (Now you can spend your time tearing away all of those tiny MLCCs away from the board if you choose, if you are into tedium, and follow your method to dissolve the Silver in Nitric Acid to make Silver Nitrate and then drop that Silver by using copper..) But the downside, the tradeoff, is that the Ag from the ends of the MLCCs is dissolved into the AP as Silver Chloride and needs to be recovered. That has been my experience. The MLCCs look like Mealy Bugs after the AP I still have to ask Geo on how to do that trick...recover the Silver Chloride from AP, unless you can answer that for me. (I NEVER throw away a solution.) Thus your Nitric Acid step is not necessary with Geo's time saving method. Just a Heads Up that there is another way.to tame that beast. Then you can filter the Gold Foils combined with the Palladium bearing cores from the AP by filtration and afterwards dissolve all of that source into the AR (Aqua Regia) for separation and refining. First drop the Gold from the AR, using the standard method of adding Urea and then Sodium Metabisulfite to get your mud.....which you already know (Personally I will place that Gold/Palladium source into straight Hydrochloric Acid. Then I add just enough Nitric Acid to the Hydrochloric Acid to dissolve all of the metals. This both minimizes the use of Nitric Acid and Urea. Drew Metalsmith is spot on concerning that.) Then add Zinc and follow Hoke's steps for recovery of the Pd . That is my understanding so far, thanks to some great teachers, this guy authoring this video not being one of them. I am still learning. If I am wrong let me know. Then you can incinerate the liberated IC Chips to recover the Au within them, following Geo's method, and also process that by using AR. Contact Geo...Contact Drew Metalsmith and also Moose Scrapper is good. I think that you already know these guys. There is the Gold Refining Forum after all. You are a member?

24kGoldenRocket thats not the point of my comment. The point of my comments are showing that this guy is a poser wannabe refiner and bookwriter who's feeding the unsuspecting public a large load of false information. If you know a little about refining which it sounds that you do, then you will have figured out that he is totally misinformed while making these videos. If you haven't noticed that. Then I wouldn't put much stock in your skills til you learned a little more, but as for taking the mlcc off I done bother I sell everything nowadays because I make far more money but for a while I was making money refining my computer scrap. Tired of dealing with all the acids required
@24kGoldenRocket
@24kGoldenRocket 9 лет назад
edgar sikes Oh I know that this guy is horrible. There is no doubt in my mind whatsoever about that. I was just attempting to show you a less tedious method...which I learned from watching Geo work with RAM Boards.. Please do not take any offense. Yes why refine them when you can sell them and gain more? Right now I am learning how to refine. Afterwards I will chase profits. Chemicals are fun...I have not had this much fun since college. That was decades ago. But if you are going to do it then you want to do it efficiently. And it seems as you have found a way of making a business from it...which is good. I started this path for two reasons. Someone had asked me if it was profitable to refine computers. I told them that I did not know... Then they trashed a bunch of computers before I could answer them. So I extracted them from the dumpster and tore them down myself. I also buy and sell scrap Gold and Silver Jewelry and get a high 90s percentage, on the Gold, when I resell for scrap.. Since I also buy Gold Filled, it just sits and collects dust. So I wanted to learn how to refine it so that I could sell it for more than 70% spot. Also on Silver scrap I get paid 72% Spot. He told me that he will pay 85% Spot for refined Silver. (That still is not a high enough percentage return so I will look for other buyers.) So if I can refine my Gold Filled and get a 98% Spot in return as a result then it becomes worthwhile to learn.

david clarke Link? Spreading hysteria does not work. Honesty works much better. Instead of bullshit you can let them know that if they do not have a background in Chemistry, do not know about LAB SAFETY PROTOCOLS, or are improperly equipped then they have no business doing this. The "amateurs" doing this successfully demonstrates that... They are properly equipped.They follow LAB SAFETY PROTOCOLS. They have a rudimentary understanding of Chemistry and that is EVIDENTIAL as they are NOT DEAD. They behave professionally. So I will repeat...THE TRUTH. If you do not have a background in Chemistry...If you do not have an understanding of LAB SAFETY PROTOCOLS (or understand that terminology)...or if you are improperly equipped... then YOU HAVE NO BUSINESS DOING THIS. Now which message do you think is more affective? My message of Truth? Or your message of unsubstantiated fear and hysteria...which is bullshit? Of course you definitely need not be doing this nor should you even make a comment as you have demonstrated your own ignorance through a lie.

avi have you ever truly got 2+ grams of gold from the 212 or 256 pent pro. i am a master refiner with 3 college degrees in several ears of chemistry. these two cpus have several grams of gold but low in kt that results in resistance , heat reason for gold heat sink. their is a 1g p pro and is black no heat sink because they used high kt gold. you can get cole to 1 gram. this information is propaganda that was in a article that listed cer cpu gold. the same person who wrote the review has been selling the p pro for years because he obtained thousand of p pros because he work in a school system for years and he got them all free. the adm k5 base .5 one of the best.

That's B.S. Not sure where you're getting info. I've never recovered more than .33g of 24k gold from a 10k Pent pro. This is why it's SO hard for REAL scrappers make money People like you giving bad info/ people thinking their 10k gold 1 micron scrap is worth '100's of dollars.Pent pro is worth $25 on ebay, less to one of those commercial sites. That AMD is worth $5@ 0.11g of gold. The green/brown fiber board CPU are worth $1.50.@0.08 g The RAM sticks go for $15 lb. YOU GOT RIPPED OFF. Amature !

the actual processors are worth more than that to anyone looking for one, too. I just dropped $20 a pop on some 486 processors for a project... and now a 486 motherboard is $75-100 due to so many of them being scrapped. and you only get a few dollars off one of those boards because it's all gold plate.

As a writer of technical publications I can tell you one vitally important piece of information regarding abbreviations and acronyms. NEVER EVER use acronyms unless you specify the meaning of the acronym in context of the subject you are discussing. "AR" for example can mean "Armalite Rifle", "Autonomic Reflex and a host of other meanings depending on the topic being discussed. Assuming that an interested but uninformed reader knows the meaning of an acronym causes frustration on the part of the reader and illustrates that the writer is either pretentious and condescending or just plain stupid. The point of writing is to inform not to confuse. If you are going to write a piece that includes acronyms, tell the reader what you are talking about. What the hell does MCC mean?
@24kGoldenRocket
@24kGoldenRocket 9 лет назад
a0cdhd MCC, as well as MLCC, means Monolithic Ceramic Capacitors. They have Silver ends and a Ceramic Center with Palladium bearing Metal alloy inside. AP means Muriatic Acid-Hydrogen Peroxide Solution, usually mixed as 3 Parts Muriatic Acid at a 15% concentrate and one part Hydrogen Peroxide at a 3% concentrate..(Acid Peroxide) AR means Aqua Regia, Royal Water, as it was the first solution discovered to dissolve the Royal Metal, Gold.. This is a solution of one part 70% concentrate Nitric Acid mixed with three parts 31% concentrate Muriatic Acid. Muriatic Acid and Hydrochloric Acid are synonyms. Urea and Ammonium Nitrate are synonyms.. IC means Integrated Circuit. RAM means Random Access Memory. Many here are familiar with these terms as we have been, and are currently, refining PMs (Precious Metals) from e-Waste (Electronic waste.). Nobody schooled me but I picked it up as I got involved. Of course it was time consuming and I stumbled a lot in the dark before figuring out who had a clue, who was teaching, and who was trying to just sell e-books.(This particular producer did not give any information and is just attempting to sell books.) I started down this particular path in late November and my learning curve has been steep. Of course I have a Science background which has afforded me an advantage on discernment.. If you are truly interested in learning how to do this then I suggest that you visit the Gold Refining Forum and download Hoke's book for free....and READ IT. I also suggest that you have had a background in Chemistry as many of the processes are dangerous and lab safety protocols are nowhere near addressed enough. It is not that we are pretentious but, personally, I want to totally discourage and dissuade anyone who will not take the time to research this topic thoroughly and are not willing to follow directions precisely. This can be a very deadly or injurious endeavor and it is not for those who will not take the time to do the necessary background research.. It is not out of greed (You, nor anyone else for that matter, are going to make a million dollars doing this) or exclusion, but I just do not want somebody to burn their internal lung tissues (which they won't feel as the lungs have no nerve endings) with acids or poisonous gases so that they cannot breathe and die as a result. I do not want an ocean of dead bodies with the resultant Government regulation to "protect the idjits." Now you may believe that it is stupid on my part for not wanting to have that happen. And you also may believe that I am somehow condescending. But these processes are extremely hazardous and most really are not capable of Laboratory work or following Safety Protocols to the letter.. And that is just a fact. Science degrees are really hard to get. So just who has been condescending with their unjustified criticism? Who has been pretentious? Who has been utterly stupid for being critical without understanding the motives? And then you wonder why nobody responded to you until now? So I really cannot care any less what you believe. Is that understood?
@a0cdhd
@a0cdhd 9 лет назад
24kGoldenRocket Excellently put old son. Now we all know what the previously mentioned acronyms mean. You are responsible for what you write but you are not responsible for what the 'idjits' do with that information. However, I can understand your reticence in telling the entire planet's population of idiots how to asphyxiate themselves with NO2, Fuming Nitric Acid and Hydrochloric acid fumes. On the subject of no one replying to my piece: I had forgotten about it. About condescension: Using jargon and that includes unexplained acronyms is a form of condescension... And that's a fact. Pretentiousness is using language that your target audience does not understand. As for the rest? Well, the government already has a vested interest in protecting 'idjits', after all the 'idjits' are the ones keeping them in office and no one least of all me, said that you were utterly stupid. I think that basically you've done a pretty good job. By the way, Urea and ammonium nitrate are not synonyms. Urea has a carbon atom. Is that understood?
@24kGoldenRocket
@24kGoldenRocket 9 лет назад
a0cdhd Point noted... www.differencebetween.com/difference-between-ammonium-nitrate-and-vs-urea/ But what is shocking is my misunderstanding of the word pretentious. Pretentious is the adjective form of the noun, pretense, if I am not mistaken, And the noun, pretense, means a fake or a fraud. (For instance the producer of this video is employing pretense in order to sell his e-book.) Thus I believed that if someone was being pretentious then he was being fraudulent. But then I looked up the definition and, to my surprise, it refers to narcissism... Imagine that. I learned something new, that I have been misusing that word, abusing that word, for quite some time, for decades. Now I need replace the word pretentious with some other word than fraudulent. I guess that some research in a Thesaurus is next on my bucket list. Sorry for the confusion but thanks for the eye opener. And as for Mommy Government??? I hope that we are not regulated and left alone. So we need to dissuade those who will kill themselves trying this when they have no business doing it.
