I just bought Gwizard a few days ago and holy crap! I would have never thought/tried to push some of my endmills the speed it tells me to and it works!

If I was doing my CNC build again I wouldn't waste time with stepper motors. They caused so many problems with inaccuracies which prevented my two part molds fitting right. I found that the smaller tools require higher speeds but steppers have very little torque above a certain speed and lose steps. Losing half a mm over a job is enough to prevent aluminum mold halves fitting together. Any money I saved by not buying servos was lost in expensive slabs of aluminum I couldn't use.

You're running 75% correct about things in your video. Still, you make great content and you get massive points from me for not pretending like you KNOW everything like some RU-vidrs who started posting videos on Home CNC around the same time as you. I own a Taig, Tormach, and Avid that's 90% complete. A 3D pro would work just fine with your machine. Essentially it's just a matter of configuring it in Mach 3/4 a probe is the same thing as a limit switch or off an on switch.. I'm shocked Avid said they don't support 3D probs on their machine. As long as your controller card has a free input the probe would work. As a matter of fact, all you would have had to use is the input for their touch off prob. What Probe did you use? Keep making great videos!

Thanks! I did try to connect a probe and had some small success but a lot of terrible failures. I decided to punt for a while and get cutting. Hopefully one day I will get a tormach or similar machine. Thanks for watching and the encouragement!

I had no idea there were small CNC machines in the $5000 range. Was always under the impression CNC machines were minimum $50k and the size of a camper. Might have to get one

A couple that come to mind, shapoko nomad and the bantam tools but there are a ton of smaller cheaper Chinese mills like the 3018 Chinese machines

it's very rare that I would sit through an entire video that is strictly talking head and no other "how-to" footage. But this one I did.

Do you mind if I ask 2 questions: 1) where do you source your aluminum plate stock from? 2) are you planning to do any follow-up videos on the S30C ATC setup / operation / lessons learned / etc ? Thanks

I am lucky to have a Metal Supermarkets close by and I get all my stock from them. Working on a follow-up video now, should be out in a few weeks depending on a few things I don't control ;-)

@@WMBayouLures thanks for the tip on Metal Supermarkets -- I had never heard of them but now that you mention them I looked and it turns out there's a location a few miles from me too. Awesome! Also, def looking forward to the S30C ATC follow up. I have the same spindle and an Avid Pro CNC and have struggled with trying to get ATC working. Thanks

Ah, it's the denatured alcohol that made your eyes starry (and look otherworldly). Cool, I was curious as to how that happened;). Please, please consider going to a big soft box or at the least back to a ring light. It took me a good 5mins to stop focusing on how unnatural your eyes looked. I know, I am probably weird, probably cuz I do documentary work, so my threshold for gimmicky visuals are lower than most people's, haha. This is not criticism, just keep it in mind if others mentiont it. I absolutely love your content and I don't even fish but I have picked up a lot of Fusion tricks from you and your presentation skills and energy are great:)

@WMBayouLures Год назад
Thanks man! I had moved out of the shop for shooting because of the CNC running and making a mess, first time back in a few months and I forgot how I had things setup 😆 And I had quite a few comments about my eye and what I might have been smoking! It was just the alcohol I promise!

@@WMBayouLuresAllow me to nerd out over this: It's a fine balance. Of course, you want entincing visuals and you do that well, but you aren't making a music video but rather sharing information. And I tend to think that we are just used to a more subdued visual language when it comes to information. Think of how "bland" newscasters are lit and how tradtional interviews are often shot. Obviously, you can have fun and dial it up but at some point, you get close to this hard to define line where we start thinking it looks too "cool" to be informations so perhaps, it's entertainment and as such, maybe not fully "true". Or in this case, I just got fixated on the weird eyes, but the mechanism is more or less the same;). That said, maybe I am old school, maybe the kids that grew up with smartphones don't care:)

precisionbrush.com/ They work pretty well for keeping most of the chips off the floor. I just screwed them into the sides of my spoilboard and they seem to be holding up pretty well.

Hi, first of all, i love your content!! Which 360 CAM Strategy are you using for your baits? I habe some problems with my worms roughing is no problem but finishing makes me go crazy at the moment, thanks a lot and greetinhs from Germany
@WMBayouLures
@WMBayouLures Год назад
It is either scallop or parallel. For rounder bodies that are smooth (no ribs) scallop is usually faster and has a better finish, but sometimes you need to go parallel to really get into the smaller spaces. I will do a video on that shortly!

I’m looking forward to learning the process to make aluminum mold. I’m getting incredible results with homemade gantry CNC making wooden crankbaits. Each half is a two sided milling operation. Carve recesses for weights on inside with pocket Toolpaths and carve outside with adaptive clearing finished with scallop. Unbelievable results on par with best builders on RU-vid. With the ATC your machine would rock at the stuff I’m doing. I’m going to be making wooden glide baits and will need mood for tails and fins. I’m planning channel making wooden lures with CNC and 3d printing stencils to make painting easier. I think once you start offering fusion 360 plans that can carve an aluminum mold your patreon will take off. The 3d printer crowd is used to freebies and I don’t think that’s the case for CNC owners.
