I totally agree. I just got upgraded to pro tools studio and it is in my humble opinion the best DAW for even producers because that’s what I mainly do, and when it comes to mixing it’s in it’s own league. Honestly I have pretty much most of the other daws except for reaper. To me only cubase and its little cool brother Studioone (which is my favorite for production by the way ) compare to pro tools. Logic and ableton live are comparable depending on your workflow
I agree with everything u said Zane........avid being sneaky......when pt. first disappeared they didn't tip their hand......i, and I'm sure you, are waiting. will avid start to recognize the independent studio owners ??? and i want to make this clear. were not home studios anymore were independent studios. i love your content and u have done so much to help us independent studio owners. apparently avid likes to play things close to the chest....ok ........they have a real chance here to come back to ......i don't know how to phrase it but the independent studio owner is the future and in reality the now. that's why your channel is so relevant and so important......will avid see that ???? and imo they should be grateful you've highlighted this product to the independent studio owner
I’m so grateful Avid’s subscription mess (as well as their outrageous ‘perpetual’ prices) got me looking at Reaper. What an incredible DAW filled with so much value. People, just switch to Reaper. Pro Tools is done.
I agree, AVID killed Pro Tools, only been a user for 6 months, I won't renew my perpetual or get a subscription, I know Protools for when i'm in the studio that runs pro tools 11, AVID screwed themselves.
@Tim Elon I switched to LP three years ago and never looked back. Pretty pleased with how robust it is. But now I need PT to access all of my unfinished PT audio files. So I hope that'll be doable with the $10/month version.
Thanks for the vid but sorry Avid; too little, too late. Switched to Reaper a few months ago. Wasted hundreds of hours with ProTools. Don’t know if it’s just cause I was a Windows user but there were issues almost every week. Start up errors, crashing in the middle of a session, stupid Ilok not finding a license… it was always something. Plus I had a permanent license with ProTools 9 and then they went to the subscription model, and for me to upgrade to whatever it was… Protools 12 or 2020 or whatever, was going to cost a fortune. There was a little bit of a learning curve with Reaper but it is been rock solid, it starts up in 10 seconds and it’s ready to go, love it. (And for $60!)
Subscription? Nah! I do have my Pro Tools First key somewhere, but haven’t been tempted to go that route. I am happy with Logic Pro, FL Studio, Waveform or Studio One. Many friends use Reaper as well which is a great value for $60.
Thanks for the info.👍 I would like to ask a questions: In other DAWs I have, after installation they no longer ask for constant updates, only when a new version appears after 1 or 2 years, they don't ask for an internet connection. - Do you know if Protools artist is going to ask for internet connection often? - Assuming I have the Artist monthly subscription 9,99 If there were updates, will I have to pay for the updates? - I have already read that it accepts third-party plugins. That includes VST2 too? - The Ilook is necessary to run the program every time? - I guess I can cancel the subscription whenever I want, right? Sorry so many questions!
I’m used to the subscription model with Adobe, but I never understood why music people are so opposed to it. Ten bucks a month is pretty painless it seems. I pay $15.99 a month just for RU-vid Premium which just eliminates ads and lets you download.
It’s way more than that because Avids plugins even when you get perpetual Pro Tools bundle are on subscription so that’s over $200 to renew each year* (depending on the version you have )+++++plus inner circle on top of that…
You don’t have to use Avid’s plugins. The basic ones that come with the artist subscription are fine. Inner circle is included with your annual subscription and doesn’t cost anything extra.
This is very tempting. I’m currently on Pro Tools 10 and I’m wondering if I’ll be missing anything when it’s time to get a new computer. I’ve never used more than 32 tracks in 20 years of recording so I’m not too concerned about the track count.
HELP, PLEASE!!!My hard drive crashed. I lost my perpetual Protools 10 software, but I still see the session files after recovery. Can I transfer them to protools artist, if I purchase it?
I’ve been able to open older projects in new Pro Tools artist and higher versions. I haven’t opened projects from 10 or older though. I think with PT 10 you could use RTAS or AAX plugins in projects. RTAS plugins will not be recognized in newer versions of PT. If you were using AAX plugins it should be alright. You can try installing the free Pro Tools Intro and see if it will open your projects. If the projects have more tracks than intro can handle they will truncate all of the tracks past the 8 audio track limit. But it will show you if the newest version of PT will open your projects. So don’t save the project after you open it in Intro. Just use it as a way to see if your projects will work.
Hello from Dublin, I hope you are well I hooked up my Bass Guitar to my new SSL12 today and connected it to my DAW (pro tools artist) and monitored it via Headphones. Unusually, while the Bass tone sounded really great on my headphones prior to hitting “record” on my DAW, once I actually started recording, the Bass Tone changed significantly and emanated a very “hollow” sounding tone. Even more unusually, I went ahead and recorded anyway, and during subsequent playback, the tone sounded great again, exactly as it did prior to the recording. So I’m wondering, why does the SSL12 tone that I’m hearing in my headphones reduce in quality, once I engage the record switch on my Pro Tools Artist DAW? Thanks for reading Cheers Niall 🎸
They discontinued it several months ago. If you already had a license for it, you can continue to use it but they aren’t allowing new registrations. Some people say it was because hackers used it to get the full version of pro tools. But I don’t know if that’s the real case.
Great video ! Question.. Does anyone know why in pro tools artist, when I place a "punch in area" and start just before it, all the music is out of sync. But if I start from the beginning it is in sync. Any help or advice would be appreciated !
Reaper is $60, Avid doesn't offer anything over the competition , it costs $50 to get a support call for that price just get reaper and forget AVID as a company, they are more interested in business than Audio now and I own pro tools perpetual but how can I justify the novelty?
Pro tools doesn’t use VST. There used to be a plugin from FXPansion that allowed you to use VSTs in Pro Tools but I’m not sure if that is still around. Most plugins are released as AAX though.
@@AudioTechTV EDIT: For VSTs in Pro Tools... ddmf Metaplugin for $59. BCA Patchwork for $99. I've seen a couple other plugins mentioned but it seems like Metaplugin & Patchwork are the two top dogs... Metaplugin is less cpu intensive but less reliable and Patchwork is more cpu but more reliable.
I had a computer crash (using Pro Tools 11 and Windows 7) and I'm seriously considering Artist. Quick question, and thanks in advance ... with Artist, could I still use my dozens of Waves plugins that I'm so familiar with?
I’m new to this . Mine doesn’t seem to fit the screen. So when I ad a click track where the section is that says count something Metro And tempo I can’t read them they are cut in half by my right panel . Can’t seem to find any answers to how to get this to fit my screen so I can access the hold top panel
Damn, for some weird reason I love (know by heart) ProTools ... but damn, i haaate the whole subscription idea. Most of the time you could use "outdated" software/hardware as long as they still worked. Now they want you to be online 100% of time + forced updates will cause more bugs.
Lets put it that way: Even Amplitube 5 SE is a 99 $ Value. And Melodyne is a 99 $ Value. I could go on with that list to show how low is this „tax“. If you own a Cubase License you will have to pay around 100 Bucks for an upgrade every year. Ok - if you use Reaper or Tracktion free or Bandlab Cakewalk you get it all for free. Even if you don‘t install Pro Tools Artist - you get so much more for your 99$ back. That is my opinion :-)
No offence mate....its a good DAW...but others are better. Although the checksum of all DAWS are same. Having said that.... A.) Pro Tools is "exasperatingly expensive" than Logic,Ableton,Cubase or any other DAW. B.) We "cannot use 3rd party plugins" in ProTools (I don't know...i heard this).
I’m not sure why I would take offence to this. I didn’t create the DAW and you are welcome to your own opinion. I guess it would be “exasperatingly expensive” compared to free DAWs but $99/yr for everything that you get with Pro Tools Artist is an excellent value. Other DAWs update once per year and the upgrade is usually more than $99. Ableton Live Standard is $449. Yes you pay that once and you can use it forever but that’s 4 years of $99 per year and in 4 years you’ll likely want to upgrade to Ableton Live 15. A similar version of Cubase is $150 and if you want to upgrade each year it’s $75. So I wouldn’t consider Pro Tools to be “exasperatingly expensive” compared to them. But I can appreciate that the term expensive is a matter of point of view and I know $99 isn’t cheap. But for people wanting to use Pro Tools this is an excellent option. And for part B of your comment, whoever told you that you couldn’t use 3rd party plugins in pro tools, wasn’t telling you the truth. You can bring in your 3rd party plugins.
@@AudioTechTV thanx for the revelation about Pro tools. Hey by the way....i do watch ur channel on a regular basis, to keep an eye on the free vst plugins which you keep telling every now and them. Such as compressors, EQ, filters, saturators...i genuinely sit down with a notebook and a pen to jot down the links of the websites from where i can download those free goodies...such as analog obsession, Klang helm, Tone boosters, Tokyo dawn etc...thanx for sharing such valuable tips and insights.
@@AbhishekAditya1982 thank you for continuing to watch. I’m glad you can find some free goodies from my videos. There are so many great, free, tools out there now. Keep creating! 👊👍
